My wife is a doctor and dentist work is found infected with the HBV virus. I am very concerned for my wife A month before the tests showed high figures about ALT 130 AST 60 ALT after a month had dropped to 118 digits unchanged ast if you can please help me with an answer as soon as possible. Does that mean that the root of ALT that my wife is gaining immunity from HBV?

if its HCV and nothing else I wouldnt rush to treating you but would let things play out as the therapy can be difficult and cause a lot of side effects. there may also be new meds available soon in the post-liver transplant setting.

Almost 4 months post transplant and have been experiencing a dull headache for the last few weeks, everyday. It is a dull headache and the discomfort is random...sometimes its on the left side of the head, sometimes on the right, sometimes between the eyes, etc. It's not a migraine, but a dull pain, nagging pain. Can this be a side effect from any of the medications? Pentamidine (aerosol) 1x monthly, Prograf 2mg 2x daily, metroprolol tartarate 12.

If i lower my prograf lower than 6.5 through rate i start getting discomfort right side .i am having cognitive issues on prograf that are getting very hard to live with, seems like it got alot worse after my last of three mri with contrast in two years. was hospitalized two days after last contrast exsposure white blood count went to1000, headach, fever urine got exstremly foamy, severe itching ,tighting and rashd eveloped on lower legs two weeks after.

I am 6 years post liver transplant from genotype 3 Hep C. My doctors want to start treatment to clear the virus. I take Prograf for the liver transplant and I know Naragenin affects the Prograf levels. My question is if during treatment I also took Naragenin and my prograf levels were closely watched and adjusted for the Naragenin effects, wouldn't I have a better chance of clearing the virus.

In your previous posts on the subject I think you said that your treatment for hcv was always under very close scrutiny by your transplant doc and that they always kept a real close eye on your treatment meds and the effects on your prograf doses and a delicate balance therein.

Cellcept is a strong drug and as far as I know it has more side effects than prograf. I am taking now (6 years after TP) 1.5 mg of prograf and 1 mg of rapamune per day. The latter is considered also to have some antiviral effect. However, different people metabolize drugs differently, so it has to be decided based on lab tests. You take now 4 mg of program and 1000 mg of cellcept, which seems to be a large dose.

I think 2 mg Prograf per day at 6 months out is a really nice dose and his Prograf blood level of 6.5 is definitely within range.

Post transplants should be aware that Sovaldi increases effects of prograf, so prograf level has to be checked and the dose may need to be adjusted. Feeling better with each day, more energy, liver enzymes normal. So there is hope for all post-transplants! Wishing SVR to all of you!

I believe that diarrhea can cause an elevation in Prograf level. Taking Prograf with food can decrease absorption and result in a lower Prograf level. This is even more pronounced if you take it with fatty food. If Prograf doesn't upset your stomach it is best taken about 1 hour before eating - on an empty stomach. The range on my labs sheet is 4 - 16 so you are well within range.

I now developed cancer, brain problem and I told my physician d side effects of drugs and he told me that he cannot help me. I stopped the medication last week because of anger and someone told me to start it again which I did. Am so in confusion state now.

I went into rejection twice in the hospital and because of this my transplant team saw it best to put me on 5mg of prograf twice a day as well as 4 mg of rapimune, which by the way was off label and i had to sign a release form for. Just within the past 2 months they lowerd my dosage of rapimune to 2mg but kept the prograf the same. My question to you is exactly how suppressed is my immune system?

05mg daily of Prograf. Has anyone who had a liver transplant gotten off the Prograf completely? Inquiring minds want to know.

My history: liver transplant 1 year ago, had 2 moderate rejections and 1 mild since transplant. At present time having moderate rejection, recently had one portal stent and 8 Bilary ERCP's to remove stones and sludge and had stenting done, and at the present time there are no blockages. Was on Rapamune (5mg a day) prior to hernia surgery and then week before hernia surgery was put on Prograf (4mg a day) and taken off the Rapamune. I have been on Progaf since hernia surgery (8 weeks ago).

About one month after stents removed started getting areas of pruritus and discomfort upper right side. Swollen and tight feeling transient in degree. Sometimes the discomfort is quite nagging and other times its barely noticeable except for a slight tightness. Bilirubin levels with stents averaged around.07.since stents were removed bilirubin .06. /09/ 1.1 / 1.5 / 1.6 / .08 / 1.6 . liver labs good, alt and ast slight increase from mid twenties to mid thirties. They don't take ggt.

i would be extremely cautious about using it until more data is available especially since its purported effects on tacrolimus and cyclosporine metabolism are extreme. i am quite confident that there will be clinical trials coming down the road extremely soon.

I know medicine as a whole works this way but is very frustrating to watch your son go through self induced side effects adding to initial problems. I just pray every day for a cure and until the day of a cure, i continue to enjoy every minute of my son. I would be happy to answer any questions in detail of the road thus far. there are prograf assistance programs that the company offers. If this is not feasible than using other cheaper medications such as verapamil for example for HTN for example will alllow much lower doses of prograf to be used (it delays metabolism of the medication) and thus it comes out cheaper.
