920032 tn?1550680156 I sympathize with your issues on finding meds that work. I also cannot take the dry powders. The technique for using them is different than other inhalers. If your doctor didn't train you well on how to use them, that could be part of the problem you had. Also, the fact that they are powder and the powder settles on the vocal cords and other parts of the respiratory tract causes irritation. That makes me cough constantly as well.
Avatar f tn In July I thought I was having allergy problems. Turned out to be pneumonia. I thought I was ok after meds. Then I had a really bad asthma attack. I did not know what was happening. Really bad coughing and hard to breathe. Went to ER and they gave me breathing meds. I saw an allergist yesterday and he put me on Adviair and Proair. I haven't had the Proair prescriptioin filled yet as I still have proventil. Sorry to ramble on.
Avatar m tn In August of last year, my 10 year old son developed pneumonia. From that day on, a severe cough would show itself about every two weeks. We would take him to the doctor and would be told; it’s the croup, it’s the croup and my son would be prescribed prednisone. This went on until February of this year, when my wife and I asked the doctor to check for some other problem… he diagnosed him with asthma and acid-reflux. He was placed on two inhalers..
Avatar n tn I was put on an HFA inhaler, after trying to fight it for two months, and it had zero effect on my lungs after two weeks. Breathing treatments were ineffective, and I was put on advair, 100/50. I quit smoking about two and a half weeks ago, and have been taking my advair for about three weeks, and I still have not improved at all. Should I continue this treatment or maybe see another doctor???

Avatar n tn I was told by my doc that Combivent just has an additional allergy medicine in it, in addition to the albuterol. It shouldn't hurt you, I wouldn't think. I have allergies also and this inhaler worked great for me.
Avatar n tn ve lived in the same town my whole life and no change in living conditions. My doctor prescribed me Pro Air HFA. Immediately I was using it more than the recommended amounts. It makes me very jittery and makes my hands shake. When I came in I was told to keep using it and then prescribed Qvar. The Qvar gave me debilitating headaches. I've since stopped taking both but the headaches and shaking still continue.
Avatar m tn We had to take my son to the emergency room yet again last night and received some disturbing news. If you’re not familiar with the original post… I have pasted it below. The emergency physician that we saw last night just happened to be a pulmonologist. The doctor told me that the cough that Chase has had for the past four months is not real and that it is all in his head… sort of like a tick. He explained that Chase was not doing this on purpose, but that “it’s not a real cough”!
Avatar f tn P i was prescribed a proair. Just looking ahead for future reference I rarely use it.
161647 tn?1280608163 It is understandable that any child would be highly upset and concerned for a parent that has been diagnosed with emphysema. And I admire both of you for that concern and love for your Mothers. Both your parents are in the very mild stages of emphysema or COPD. If a person takes care of themselvs such as quitting smoking, then that person will live a normal life span. I promise!!!!! I am in the moderate stage of COPD. More advanced than your parents. I was diagnosed 3 yrs. ago.
Avatar f tn allergiest. lung doctor i am not sure. i take proair and it only works for 2 hours. i feel like i just need to sit in my condo and do nothing because it is embarassing when i can't walk to go to an event because i need to stop and calm my body down (throat tightens).
Avatar n tn Oximetry with a saturation of 86 to 87% is on the borderline of indications for the continuous oxygen. You will need further information, for example what are your saturations while asleep, before making any decisions concerning the use of oxygen. You are correct in wanting to wait until you have achieved optimum benefit from the Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol, before any consideration of oxygen use.
Avatar f tn Spent the sickest winter of my life, while on these inhalers. Bronchitis, pneumonia and pleurisy that was so painful for 3 months. I was doing okay before the inhalers. At least not sick all the time. Then, I went off the inhalers. Personally, I said heck with them. And knock on wood, I have been doing pretty good without them. No more constant illness. I still use a rescue inhaler. But, I go for awhile and don't even need the rescue inhaler.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed an inhaler about a week ago, and it doesn't seem to be helping with my breathing problems. It feels good and works for about a few seconds after using it then it doesn't make a difference at all. And the other day it actually made my symptoms A LOT worse (I could barley breath for the whole evening and felt pressure). Is there a reason for all of this or should I just switch brands?
959034 tn?1253671476 Is there an alternative to daily Prednisone for treatment of severe asthma?
Avatar n tn I was thinking that if it was extremely important to rinse out your mouth, then the doctor would of told us that when the drug was prescribed. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

Avatar f tn Anyway, I started smoking at age 18, have had pneumonia and the flu which took 2 weeks to get over. I quit smoking for two years, the started back again. I am now 49, have had 3 PFT's all of which show a "severly low diffusing capacity" which is 27% as of 4/27/11. I have had 2 CT scans which did not change that showed "lungs mildly hyperinflated"..."the lung bases demonstrate dependent atelectasis"...
Avatar m tn He told me my results were consistent with asthma and prescribed me Advair while also using Proair for relief. Its been one week and the Advair hasnt made my symptoms any better. Im starting to wonder if I have something other than asthma. Any thoughts/advice/feedback? Thank you in advance.
