Pristiq to lexapro

Common Questions and Answers about Pristiq to lexapro

pristiq

1450085 tn?1298941702 I went through a similar thing switching from Lexapro to Celexa, which have a similar relationship to one another as Pristiq to Effexor, but for me it was because Lexapro wasn't working well and I have problems from going off a different med, but normally they're considered to be so similar you don't move from one to another.
Avatar m tn Actually, Lexapro has no "maximum." 20mg is just the most studied by the manufacturer. Lexapro is basically another form of Celexa so the company could get another patent, but they do seem to affect people differently. I was on 30mg of Lexapro, but it didn't help and I actually got worse. So now I'm tapering off it to see if I can find something that works to undo what quitting Paxil did to me. It's the old medication carousel.
1933920 tn?1323394258 I went to the doctor today and changed lexapro ten milligrams for pristiq fifty milligrams. My doctor told me to stop the lexapro all to gether but im reading lexapro has horrible withdrawel symtoms. Has any one stopped lexapro?
Avatar f tn ve been on lexapro 20mgs for about 5 years. the doc has me down to 10 mgs lexapro for 1 week then stop it completely. my concers are. i know nothing about this med. and do you think i'll have withdraws from the lexapro.
Avatar m tn Just wondering if anyone has gone from Pristiq to Effexor. I am changing jobs and my new job doesn't cover Pristiq. I have been on it for 4 months and doing really really good on it. I am on 50 mg, and am sad that I will have to change meds. Effexor is available to me through my new job but I just don't know how similar they will be. let me know.
Avatar f tn i have had generalized anxiety (severe) for 12 yrs. currently only on 5 mg of lexapro only because i couldn't get off the last 5mg. i take clonazepam which is the only thing that works, but every couple of years i hit a wall and need to up the antidepressant. been on zoloft, paxil, celexa, effexor, lyrica, cipralex(lexapro), maoi's, etc..wondering if pristiq works, or maybe cymbalta? only snri i was on was effexor, which didn't do much but also had a brutal psych.
Avatar f tn I will only add one thing to Ryan's otherwise very good post. People do have different reactions to different drugs, even to Celexa and Lexapro or Pristiq and Effexor. While it's true the companies are trying to keep a patented product in their lineup, Lexapro seems to have fewer side effects than Celexa, but many people do find one or the other works better. Same probably with Pristiq and Effexor. But to prescribe both at once is insane.
759115 tn?1256997490 I tried Cymbalta prior to trying Pristiq. I had to stop Cymbalta because after 3 months even at high dosages it just was not helping with the symptoms of my depression. On to Pristiq. I ended up on 100Mgs a day with Pristiq and took it for a good 5 months, it worked ok, but not well enough to cover my symptoms. I then got off Pristiq. (I must tell you that the withdrawl from Pristiq is very strong. MUCH worse than even with Cymbalta or Effexor.
Avatar f tn Really, the best person to go to with this question is your doctor...because everyone is different and will react different to certain drugs. Lexapro had adverse effects on me and made me absolutely miserable, yet on the flip side lexapro has helped sooo many people. Lexapro is not a very addicting drug, and i would recommend it because of that. I take Pristiq. Thats another option. Theres also welbutrin and those are the ones I have experience with, and they are all pretty mellow drugs.
Avatar n tn I am about to start this medicine and wanted to know if anyone is taking Pristiq or has? And if you experienced side effects, if yes what were they? And I am coming off Lexapro due to side effects, so I was wondering if they are the same, worse, or not at all with Pristiq.
Avatar f tn That basically is one reason why I do not want to take it. It also doesnt say on the pristiq website that is treats anxiety and/or panic disorder as it does on the Effexor XR website because the FDA has not even aproved it yet for this.
Avatar f tn Lexapro did not work for me either. There are so many option you want to check with your doctor if its not working for you, so they can get you on something else that will work. If you are looking for names there is Prozac, pristiq, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, cymbalta, etc.... Just speak with your doctor first.
Avatar m tn those are hardcore meds and can lead to bad withdrawls. Lexapro and Pristiq arent that addicting. Talk to a psychiatrist...they are a therapist who is allowed to perscribe meds. They will be the most knowledgeable (more so than a regular doctor) and will be able to guide you better. Good luck!
Avatar f tn First, Pristiq isn't novel, it's just Effexor with part of it cut off, as was done with Celexa/Lexapro. Some will say it's just a way to get another drug on patent, but since people do have very different reactions to Celexa vs. Lexapro, there probably are differences here, too. Second, Cymbalta isn't an ssri, it's an snri like Pristiq. Third, snris can be very stimulating because they target norepinephrine.
Avatar f tn My doctor put me on pristiq and I am afraid to take it. I took Zoloft while pregnant and stopped about a month after my daughter was born. I felt good then. Then my gp put me on Lexapro and that zonked me out. Back to Zoloft again. I feel just like the depression commercials describe. I hate it. I just would like to know if anyone has been taking it and how you feel on it.
822153 tn?1333062995 ) but doc may have samples-mine did. i love it and i thought i was going to be doomed to be in lala land forever on xanax. just wanted to let anyone who was interested know! thanks...
Avatar f tn t appear accurate to me -- Pristiq is not usually prescribed as an adjunct to another antidepressant. It is the newer version of Effexor, is very strong, is a very stimulating antidepressant so isn't usually used if anxiety is the primary problem unless all other meds have failed to work, and can be very difficult to stop taking.
Avatar m tn My doctor and I decided to swtich me over to Pristiq from Effexor. (Pristiq is essentially the same drug, but supposedly without all the side effects). This was in the hope that maybe I could reduce or get off Wellbutrin (memory problems) if the Pristiq did not cause sexual side effects. I have been on Pristiq for a month and a half now. The transition was seamless. Within two weeks, I was no longer clenching my jaw and stopped using the mouth guard.
7650348 tn?1393006631 5 in the afternoon and the full dose at bed (when I took the pristiq as well). He uped my dose of pristiq to 75mg cutting a pills n half. It made me a HOT MESS, later I found myself a zombie and emotional wreck, questioning myself, having flashbacks of the past experiences i had. I was crying all the time and headaches that were debilitating. I told my Dr all of this. I told him i looked over the last 2 years and i have never been physically sick in my whole life.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your replies. Still don't want to take the Pristiq though....but this damn malaise and not wanting to do ANYTHING is killing me. Have young twins..gotta keep going. This really *****.
7650348 tn?1393006631 He switched me to lexapro to give it a second chance, not good at all. I gained 20lbs in a 3 month period and was a complete **** and felt like a sedated zombie with even more anxiety. Then came the really bad parts. He upped my dose of xanax and gave me pristiq! NOT GOOD. I was almost falling over, having crazy thoughts ( what if I stabbed my hand with my fork) that I never thought before. I told my Dr about me not feeling right he then gave me pristiq to try.
