Pristiq and lexapro

Common Questions and Answers about Pristiq and lexapro

pristiq

Avatar m tn Equivalencies are generalizations, and you are an individual. Besides, Pristiq is a different class of drug than Lexapro. Lexapro is an ssri while Pristiq is an snri. And if it were me, which it isn't, I'd start at a low dosage and work my way up on any medication so I could see how bad the side effects were and the lowest dosage at which it works is.
Avatar f tn I will only add one thing to Ryan's otherwise very good post. People do have different reactions to different drugs, even to Celexa and Lexapro or Pristiq and Effexor. While it's true the companies are trying to keep a patented product in their lineup, Lexapro seems to have fewer side effects than Celexa, but many people do find one or the other works better. Same probably with Pristiq and Effexor. But to prescribe both at once is insane.
1933920 tn?1323394258 It's often okay to go from one medication to the other. Because the Pristiq is in the same family of medications you won't suffer withdrawal from the Lexapro. The Pristiq will take over for the Lexapro and hopefully do an even better job. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn I just started Pristiq and Im also on ativan and abilify............wondering if anyone else has taken these meds together.I felt great after taking the pill last night now today im kinda scared and spacey feeling...any thoughts?
Avatar f tn i have had generalized anxiety (severe) for 12 yrs. currently only on 5 mg of lexapro only because i couldn't get off the last 5mg. i take clonazepam which is the only thing that works, but every couple of years i hit a wall and need to up the antidepressant. been on zoloft, paxil, celexa, effexor, lyrica, cipralex(lexapro), maoi's, etc..wondering if pristiq works, or maybe cymbalta? only snri i was on was effexor, which didn't do much but also had a brutal psych.
759115 tn?1256997490 I'm currently taking Cymbalta 30mg once daily, but still very depressed :( Started out on 60mg daily about 2-3 years ago with no real results, so worked my way down to 30mg. I did try one weekend to quit it cold turkey. NOT smart!! withdrawls were the WORST!!!
1450085 tn?1298941702 Pristiq and Effexor are essentially the same medication, so the switch should be relatively easy, and save you some money, too. I'm not sure I understand the switch, because Pristiq is the new Effexor, so if it isn't for financial reasons, kind of hard to see the point of going through it. Certainly some people have different reactions to them, and so just because Pristiq works also doesn't guarantee Effexor will work, and it might work better, who knows.
Avatar m tn Just wondering if anyone has gone from Pristiq to Effexor. I am changing jobs and my new job doesn't cover Pristiq. I have been on it for 4 months and doing really really good on it. I am on 50 mg, and am sad that I will have to change meds. Effexor is available to me through my new job but I just don't know how similar they will be. let me know.
Avatar n tn t know until you try. The least problematic are probably Prozac, and then Lexapro, but even Lexapro has been known to cause significant weight gain and Prozac isn't usually that great for anxiety, but who knows? They're weird, these drugs, and affect everyone differently.
Avatar f tn I am just curious to hear about any personal experiences you may have had with Pristiq and/or Effexor. My doctor has been favoring Pristiq but with no real valid reasons why and when I researched the two, based on clinical findings, I'm not sure that Pristiq is really better than Effexor. Thoughts?
190673 tn?1259203266 I have been taking Effexor XR 450mg and Buproprion 450mg for a couple of years. I'm weaning off the Effexor, going onto Pristiq and continuing the Buproprion.
Avatar f tn Taking Lexapro for anxiety and depression and it has totally stopped working. What med do you suggest?
Avatar m tn those are hardcore meds and can lead to bad withdrawls. Lexapro and Pristiq arent that addicting. Talk to a psychiatrist...they are a therapist who is allowed to perscribe meds. They will be the most knowledgeable (more so than a regular doctor) and will be able to guide you better. Good luck!
1489588 tn?1303998295 When I take Savella and Pristiq together, it works wonders. When both my pain dr and my psychiatrist got together and said I couldn't take them together, I became very depressed after getting off of Savella. I didn't want to kill myself, but I sure didn't want to live. Lyrica put me to sleep in horrible ways, Cymbalta doesn't work for me and anything like Prozac or Lexapro or Zoloft is candy to me. I also take Norco.
Avatar f tn Lexapro had adverse effects on me and made me absolutely miserable, yet on the flip side lexapro has helped sooo many people. Lexapro is not a very addicting drug, and i would recommend it because of that. I take Pristiq. Thats another option. Theres also welbutrin and those are the ones I have experience with, and they are all pretty mellow drugs. But really, every one is very different.
Avatar f tn My doctor put me on pristiq and I am afraid to take it. I took Zoloft while pregnant and stopped about a month after my daughter was born. I felt good then. Then my gp put me on Lexapro and that zonked me out. Back to Zoloft again. I feel just like the depression commercials describe. I hate it. I just would like to know if anyone has been taking it and how you feel on it.
869879 tn?1239660309 Has anyone ever taken Lexapro and Abilify together? I've been on 10mg Lexapro (for chronic dysthymia) for about 2 years now. I've always had positive reactions to Lexapro: great sex drive, great mood, slept okay (I do take Lunesta for sleep). However, lately (for the past 4 months I'd say), my depression has worsened for no real reason. I've found myself a lot more tired when I wake up (I sleep 9-10 hours a night), don't want to be with anyone, no energy, no sex drive.
Avatar f tn Well I have panic disorder with agoraphobia and my new Dr put me on Pristiq because I was on Zoloft and it made me very sick. Anyways, this med hasn't made me sick but I have been on it for 13 days and I cant really tell a difference... I know it could take up to 4 weeks but shouldn't I be seeing some improvement?? My anxiety level is still very high and I still cant leave the house alone.
Avatar m tn This was in the hope that maybe I could reduce or get off Wellbutrin (memory problems) if the Pristiq did not cause sexual side effects. I have been on Pristiq for a month and a half now. The transition was seamless. Within two weeks, I was no longer clenching my jaw and stopped using the mouth guard. I am also seeing a lessening of the sexual side effects. I did not have any of the sweating or dry mouth, but that may be because I have been on an SNRI for awhile and my body was used to it.
7650348 tn?1393006631 I had tried two in the past before that (Paxil and lexapro) i was a teen and it made me have what i know now is anxiety. I have a problem with change. I moved in 2002, in 2003 I had my first Panic attack, going to the ER. My old Dr put me on (paxil and lexapro) without telling me anything but they are made for panic disorder. Again it made me feel horrible like it did when I was teen this time with anxiety and panic.
Avatar n tn I was also diagnosed with ptsd and was on hydo and morphine for a lot of years and went CT. After day 6 I was on the up and up. The rls started to dissipate and my head cleared. I was on antidepressants until recently for pain but have since stopped due to weight gain. It feels good with noting in me except my BP meds….No pain ..no gain.
Avatar m tn t feeling well and all of a sudden I felt light headed and like if I was fallin and I came into my rooom and layed down and started crying cuz im like what now!!! I've been feeling very goood and out of a sudden it hit me..and now this morning when I wake up I feel all spacy and werid..and I hear weird noises..my doc said I hear all those weird noises cuz my brain got a lil out of control from the drug I did...what can it be that hit me was it anxiety again??
