My bone density plummeted from 15% above normal to 25% below normal in 6 years (post menopause). Could Prevacid excellerate bone loss. I don't have many risk factors for osteoporosis, no family history.
I take Synthroid, Verapamil, Prevacid. I eat lots of dairy, greens, almonds. I exercise daily.
I eat a fairly low carb diet, minimal alcohol, caffeine, and cola.

That is interesting because I was taking Prevacid and also noticed an increase in PAC's. Its still to early for me to tell if that was the culprit because my Palps have a mind of their own and can last as long as a week at times. For now though I have stopped the Prevacid to see if that helps. I also take fish oil which I've heard can help palps but I've also read that they can worsen them, who knows? Keep us posted!

My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
can anyone help me out with some information on what is going on here, her osteoporosis does not seam to be getting any worse, as she is on meds and really diets well to help herself, but the pain is what i am worried about, pain killers do not work at all, she can't have anti inflams for some reason, either heart or ulcer or something...
what can she do for the pain??
I just had my frist Bone scan and the office called me and said I had osteoporosis and that they called in RX for Atelvia..
I picked up the RX and was reading the information and I am concerned about the side effect of this medication.
Is this the only way to help with osteoporosis? Is there anything elso another way?
I am a 59 year old female.The reading on my bone density test is minus 4.1 for my spine and minus 2.6 for my legs and hip. However, my doctor isn't prescribing any medication for me but tells me to continue taking calcium supplement and Vitamin D and come back in a year to do another test. Since I am obviously having osteoporosis, shouldn't I be taking any prescription drug? I am worried sick over the reading and need some expert opinion to go back and talk to my doctor again.
I have been on prilosec, prevacid, nexium and protonix all at one time or other for over 16 yrs on a continual basis- no problems yet- but it can cause osteoporosis- I had a bone scan though and am fine- I was on reglan for over 10 yrs and it did start to give me tardive dyskinesia whih was very scary and I had to get off of it- I still get it even after stopping it at times
My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.
I was just at the GI doc on Wednesday and he put me back on Prevacid for stomach acid - it is a proton pump inhibitor and he wrote orders for me to take calcium w/vitamin D because of the osteoporosis side effect with Prevacid. I had a DEXA scan this summer and my bone density was according to my PCP beyond excellent. I finally have one good thing about my body- strong bones!
I am having a problem with taking my Prevacid 4 hrs. after Synthroid. Right now my routine is to take Synthroid when I first get up and 6 AM. an hour later eat something void of fiber (usually egg sub.) The 4 hrs. later I take the Prevacid and have another small meal (cereal usually). The problem is something is causing a bad taste to come back in to my mouth sometime after all this and I am thinking it is because the Prevacid really is not being taken prior to eating.
I just went to the doctor to get blood tests and make sure that my drinking has not already damaged my body beyond repair. My doctor gave me Prevacid for some stomach issues I have been Having. Does anyone know if it is safe to take it when I have been drinking? I am really trying to stop but I am having problems with the withdrawls so I am trying to wean myself off. Any one have any opinions? I would hate to do more damage when I ma trying to correct already done damage.
Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Did you just start taking prevacid? Have you eaten anything red recently? Are you constipated? Do you have hemmorhoids?
If my episodes continue I might have to go back to a PPI like Prevacid, which I quit because it can contribute to osteoporosis. Are you on a blood thinner? Congrats on the Tai Chi bringing your bp down. Good luck with this -- let us know how you are. BTW, I believe I read hawthorne may contribute to arrythmias.
Well I went to the doctor today and she said it was most likely my asthma acting up and prescribed an inhaler. Also, Prevacid for my gerd/indigestion problems. Hopefully there is no infection and it is just asthma.
Do you know how long it takes for the inhaler to start working because it's been a few hours and i still can't really breathe any better. I have an appt with the g.i doctor in 2 weeks (that was the soonest appt!! -_-) to see about if h.
After taking Prevacid, I gain my appetite back. The problem is, I have develope new symptoms after taking prevacid for 1 week. I am having very loose bowel movements, blood on the toliet paper when I wipe, indigestion, lower abdominal pain. Most importantly is I am having more frequent heartburn and chest pain, which I don't have when I am on the H2 blocker.
Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
