Common Questions and Answers about Prempro for menopause

Avatar f tn Three days ago I went to a new doctor to get the hormones adjusted and she said she does not prescribe bioidenticals and gave me a prescription for Prempro. I do not want to take this and I told her so. She said she does not believe bioidenticals are any safer than Prempro and if I needed to have an adjustment in my Rx due to break through symptoms of hot flashes and severe brain fog along with zero energy then I needed to try something different than what I had been doing.
Avatar n tn So, yes, I would guess you could have mood swings due to menopause any time after. I am 59 and have been on Prempro for about 7 years and just went off them and my hot flashes now are worse than ever! I have severe insomnia (I take sleeping pills every night and sometimes they don't help!) I have been sleeping with the windows open even when it's getting down into the 30s and 40s at night and that helps a lot.
Avatar n tn I am age 66. At age 50 my GYN put me on Prempro. I had no symptoms of menopause. He said that it will happen and I can prevent the discomfort of it by starting estrogen therapy. He was right, I have never had any of the things people talk about. What I am wondering, would I maybe not even had the symptoms anyway? I have been on it for 16 years now. My GYN has now prescribed a low dose, but how do I know if I even need it? I am basically healthy.
Avatar f tn 40 is a little young to start Menopause, but not unheard of, it can happen. I started @ 49, for 1 year, I would bleed for 7 weeks, then it stop, started, did that for a year. I have not had a period for 2 yrs now. I started gaining weight a little weight in my mid section, I also got very depressed. I'm not a depressed type, always happy, not moody. I had to go on Prempro, it took 2 weeks, I was better.
Avatar f tn This is very interesting and would be preferable for me rather than going back on the Prempro. I had a needle biopsy 13 years ago which was benign. I had a partial mastectomy in 2001, also benign, so I guess I kind of panicked this last mammogram when it showed benign cysts. My hot flashes and night sweats have subsided some, thank goodness. Many thanks for responding.
Avatar f tn I know how it is. Was put into menopause by chemo and then with those hormonal drugs. The insomnia and those hot flashes are terrible, and when severe, really a huge big deal and interference with normal life, so I understand. I hope you get some relief. Avatar f tn so glad I found this site. my journey began in 2010 when I started having very heavy periods this went on for over a year when I went to my family dr. he asked me if I was anemic I told him I didn't think so but was very tired. he checked my blood and found that I was. had to have other testing done to roll out other issues. after that I was sent to my ob-gyn which did a biopy which was ok then put me on depo shots for two years to get me to menopause.
Avatar f tn I needed additional views, so I returned three days later for a second mammogram of the left breast only, and it showed a nodule. I had an ultrasound the same day which showed an 8 mm benign cyst and several other subcentimeter benign cysts, some with low internal echoes (what are internal echoes?) I've been on Prempro over 10 years and understand this could be the cause of the benign cysts. For the last couple years or so I've been on a very low dose (0.3-1.5).

Avatar f tn I am 41 years old and am in menopause for about 6 years but probably longer since I had been on the pill until I was 35. My overies shut down for whatever reason which caused me to have thyroid (hyperthyroid) which was caused from the menapause itself...I went on drugs and my thyroid is normal. I hate it and it *****. Not that I really looked forward to having periods but now have to take prempro, Plus I feel it aged me faster too!!!
Avatar f tn Have been taking Prempro for 14 yrs. Hot flashes and osteopenia (pre-osteoporosis). Awaiting biopsy results for microcalcifications around or in ducts. Can prempro increase risk of BC, in particular, DCIS?
Avatar n tn It could be the prempro. Ask your doctor about going off of it for a few month and see if that helps. I heard that estrogen can cause congestion along with other medications. I too have non allergic rhinitis but mine is considered Vasomotor rhinitis.k I had this for 6 yrs. but I do not take any medication, just nasal steroid sprays and nasal rinses and it does not do anything. I even had sinus surgery - total ethmoidectomy, opening the ostia of the maxillary sinuses and partial turbinectomy.
Avatar n tn i have been going through my menopause for quite some time. i had a hysterectomy at 31 and not i am 45. i am on patches...but i get this awful numbness in the hands in the mornings..i didnt know weather it was something to do with the change. This discussion is related to Numbness in hands during sleep.
Avatar f tn As for the anxiety, do yourself a favor and give Wisdom Menopause Formula a try. It has made a huge difference for me, and it took care of the hot flashes and night sweats as well. I know six or eight women who are taking it, and I've heard nothing but praise. Please let us know what your doctor says!
Avatar n tn Your symptoms of stomach bloating, belching, gas are not typical symptoms of menopause. The risks of estrogen replacement in menopause are probably exaggerated by the media, but there are some risks - you should only use estrogen at the lowest effective dose, for the minimum amount of time, to get relief. You may want to try it out for awhile and see if you feel better.
Avatar n tn But the hot flashes were so darn awful, that I chose to go on hormones for that reason alone. Prempro and the like should be taken off the market. I think they've killed enough women, and made more than enough money off all the women they have harmed.Instead the makers of Prempo are trying to take away other options, such as Bio-identical Hormones which they can't put patent and make billions of dollars on. Sorry. I'm off topic. Just makes me mad.
Avatar n tn I have been shedding for months and it is really scary. I have very fine hair and not a lot of it to start with.I have been on low dose PremPro for years and am a little worried about continuing with the breast cancer element but I am afraid to give it up and lose even more hair. I take a good vitamin, I am on thryroid, I eat right and have good lifestyle. I am afraid I will end up pitifully bald. Help?
Avatar f tn After the first 2 weeks of mainly recovering from surgery, my body was thrown into a very brutal menopause. For another 2 weeks, I completely fell apart, then 4 weeks after surgery I started on anti depressants, which took 8 weeks to fine tune. I also started 5 weeks ago on estrogel, which covered the hot flashes and alot of the insomnia. I am not normally a depressive person, but without hormones it all became to much. Don't be a matyr, obviously they haven't got your mix right.
Avatar f tn Oncologist opinion that since I am 62, and have been on Prempro for 11 yrs that HRT may have contributed to LCIS, because although LCIS is found in women my age, it is usually found in younger women. Just finished weaninf off the Prempro. Having sweats and flashes, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I am supposed to start Raloxifene. This may cause hot flashes. If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes.
237053 tn?1258828426 Then came the big Prempro crash and controversy. I stayed on it anyway for several more years without insidence then the pedulum swung back and some people have resumed its use again. The main point to me is I am pretty sure hormones have some HUGE part in MS and I so urge the drug companies to try to find out just what part they play! As pregnancy shows, something is being missed!
Avatar f tn I have been going thru menopause for 1 1/2 yrs, I was put om premilin .
Avatar n tn After 2 days of taking Prempro I decided not for me. I think I need Progesterone and would like to know if others use the cream and what brand. Or any advice appreciated. Thank- you.
Avatar n tn I had a complete hysterectomy 4 years ago and went into surgical menopause. They did a complete hormone panel and the normal range for a female is approx 24, mine was 76!! I went with the natural HRT patch derived from a plant instead of the pill Premarin or Prempro derived from horse mare urine. It works great for me and I am in the lowest dose .5.
