Common Questions and Answers about Premarin hrt

premarin

Avatar f tn got worse 3 years ago when they found a pituitary tumor and last year found an aneurysm....had a hysterectomy when I was 28 and have been on HRT since. My headaches are so bad lately..I have menopauseal symptoms really bad and all the drs did was up my premarin which isn't doing anything. I am at my end with the pain....Help!!!!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...I know if you use your pain meds to much you get rebounds but the pain won't let up.
Avatar f tn I read your post and saw that you said you've been on Premarin, which is not the best way to do it. All the research putting down hrt was done using Premarin as the hormones. It's just not a good thing to be taking. You can get shots of estrogen, not Premarin, and they don't have the side effects. Anyway, talk to a pro.
Avatar f tn Will premarin and hrt help with the anxiety that comes along with menopause? I cannot seem to get a straight answer from researching it on the net. I'm desperate for help.
Avatar f tn I am 5 weeks post op after hysterectomy but after suffering a few night sweats, my doctor gave me Premarin oral HRT. It is 5 days now and although the night sweats have eased, my acne has become worse. My doctor said that this eostrogen alone hrt may help the acne, do I need to give it chance? Is it normal to get worse before better?
Avatar m tn After my hysterectomy, the doctor started me on estrogen therapy, Premarin 0.9 daily. A few months ago, I recorded an episode of Oprah, the topic was HRT. After watching this episode, I promptly made an appointment with my family doctor to discuss other HRT options. I stopped taking my Premarin, and upon my request for a safer or natural hormone, she prescribed estradiol .05 once a week patch, just recently (last week) added Prometrium, 200 mg. daily. My health/sanity issues have not changed.
Avatar f tn Hello: hoping somebody can help me. I have been on Premarin.625mg for 7 months and did very well. Before that, I had tried everything else with very little improvement. Before Premarin I was having hot flashes, anxiety, and terrible insomnia. After the first few days of taking Premarin, I began to notice great improvement. My hot flashes went away and insomnia disappeared. I had a few bumps along the way but then everything balanced out. Now, the old symptoms have returned with a vengeance.
Avatar f tn t feel like I could blame it on the premarin. My question is...Can stoping the premarin after all these yrs cause a change in my rt breast that would show up abnormal?
566073 tn?1219434819 t want to give you any false hopes because it was a gynocologist (not an oncologist) who told me at the time that there are several types of treatments for tumour amongst which are HRT, chemo and radio therapies. He also said that HRT would have been the best option for my mum's age if her tests (biopsy) reveal that her tumour is non-cancerous.
Avatar n tn For Total T4 - premarin will falsely increase the reading (due to estrogen increasing thyroid-binding-globulin). normal Total T4 is about 5 - 12 (depends on lab) TSH normal (to me) is 0.3-3.0 but this also depends on lab -- TSH is not affected by premarin.
Avatar n tn I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago and oopherectomy 3 years ago. I have been on Premarin since. Just this past couple weeks I have been having quit a bit of breast tenderness. Is this normal. Also on other meds not related to menopause, for depression, anxiety etc. I have noticed also that my anxiety and depression has increased.
Avatar f tn my dr put me on premarin for hrt...it helped me alot and i had pmdd before my hysterectomy...mine was june 2011 for removal of cervical cancer i've been on premarin ever since, it does work ask your dr what he thinks.
Avatar n tn I would also have a question on Premarrin 0.625mg. I have been taking since Feb 2007 and from reading up on HRT that one should not be on it longer than 5yrs @ a time & to occasionally give your system a break. We are just approaching fall and I have tried over a period of about a month without it, however that was cold turkey & experienced hot flushes again. I have now gone back to it which is about a week and feeling alittle relief.
Avatar n tn I am 36 had a total hysterectomy at 30 and have never been on HRT. There are a couple schools of thought on this some doctors think it's not needed and some think you have to be on it. Prior to my hysterectomy I was in medical menopause anyway so no hormones since age 15. I am fine I have side effects of menopause but I tolerate those better than the side effects of hormones. I don't see any reason why you have to take HRT I know many other women that don't take it either.
Avatar n tn In 2012 I was 39 and had a hysterectomy ovaries removed. My Dr put me on premarin and said he wanted me on it for 10 years. I took it for only 2 and quit. I don't know why. I hadn't had any problems until a few months ago. Insomnia is bad, sweats at night, anxiety, moodiness and low depression. Now I'm wanting to see about getting back on it. I'm 45 now. Any advise? Has anyone done this?
Avatar f tn My doctor, who is a OB/GYN, preformed the surgery and after placed me on Premarin. I was worried after finding out all the health issues around premerin, especially the blood clots, since my mom died of that several years after her hysterectomy. I started having very bad stinging sharp pains in my lower legs and discussed this with my doctor but he didnt take me very serious and only lowered the dosage.
Avatar f tn It seems odd to follow fibroid surgery with estrogen HRT (premarin and estrone are both types of estrogen) since estrogen causes fibroids to grow... You should call your doctor and ask when your period should start. I'm surprised your doctor did not tell you to use protection (condom, diaphragm) until you are ready to get pregnant since Premarin does not prevent pregnancy... I wish I could be of more assistance...
Avatar f tn and treating the symptoms can be done w/the use of HRT and Premarin. If this is so, does anyone know how long it will take for the medicine to induce menopause, and how long will the medicine be needed to treat the symptoms? Since i'm uninsured and my period is making me very sick, especially those debilitating migraines, (probably, because i'm too old now) I'm trying to find a way to help myself. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I am receiving conflicting information regarding treatment for hrt. I have a uterus in tact I was prescribed combined hrt progesterone and estrogen estarlis patches. Then I went to another gyno who said that recent studies have proved that estrogen only with uterus in tact is safer that in fact it's the progesterone that is toxic. Is anyone receiving the same advice?
Avatar m tn For the past 6 months, I have had brain fog, very little energy, anxiety, depression, etc., Do you think this is due to no HRT of any kind? As far as physically feeling bad, I don't. Its seems to be all mental. It's also very hard to lose weight. Any suggestions, answers, anything????? All comments welcome! Thanks bunches! Another hyster~sister!
Avatar f tn The patches you were on as well as Premarin are all estrogen. The patches are bio-identical but Premarin is not. And yes, estrogen can stimulate any remaining endo. Some doctors say that going without estrogen for a certain period of time post-op to allow the lesions to die off reduces this risk. Others say that taking progesterone with the estrogen reduces this "endo flare" risk. Regardless of the endo issue, going without hormones can be a very miserable existence.
Avatar n tn I am not sure on the med you are on - but is sounds very similiar to the two I am reading about. Premarin, Provera. The main ingredient is Premarin which is short - from my reading of pregnant mares. This is a horse hormone that is labeled as equillin. There are no traces of this hormone equillin in the table of human hormones. The second component in Prempro is called Provera stated progesterone - but its really not human progesterone or progesterone at all.
Avatar f tn I'm a 40 yr old mom of 3. I started my period when I was barely 9 yr old and am now dealing with being deeply in the throughs of peri menopause. I have endometriosis, a family inheritance, and have had multiple removals of lesions caused by it. I have had one leep done for pre-cancerous cells on my cervix 14 yrs ago, before my pregnancies. And I've had multiple abnormal pap results over the years that when sent back for a second test came back normal.
Avatar n tn Hi Jannielou, I was suffering horribly from hot flashes and night sweats until the doc put me on HRT last year. It did help with the flashes, but I started feeling ‘weird’, my breasts got so sore that I could hardly sleep, then I started getting pain in my legs, especially my knees and hips, and I started gaining weight. I went to askapatient.com, and saw that many other women on Premarin were experiencing the same symptoms.
