Premarin and progesterone

Common Questions and Answers about Premarin and progesterone

Avatar f tn in 84 and was on vivelle patch for most of those years. Just estrogen and no progesterone. I was fine until a few years ago and it just got worse. I became so estrogen dominant and became a total mess. I went to a very good hormone imbalance seminar a few days ago and it was great. I think if you went off, you'll regret it in time. There are so many symptoms with low or no hormone production.
Avatar f tn Sitz baths helped some but it's still there and not healed After it didn't heal the urologist recommended light application of Premarin [said vagina and urether are inter-related] I was reluctant since I had estrogen receptor positive DCIS years ago He said it would be ok - using a tiny amount topically-and not to insert the cream Just picked it up and the dosag is 0.
1194973 tn?1385507504 Use an effective form of birth control while you are using this medication. Premarin can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. This medication may also slow breast milk production. Do not use if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Avatar n tn I took no treatments afterwards. I kept taking estrogen, (but not the progesterone) and 13 years later had breast cancer. I hold no one to blame because of the estrogen. Most reports say that estrogen alone does not cause breast cancer, but if one does get the cancer, the estrogen feeds it and makes it gtow faster. Guess that is what happened to me. My cancer showed up between yearly mammograms. It was aggressive lobular, 5 CM , 14 nodes positive, making it stage 3.
Avatar n tn I had a total hysterectomy 3 years ago and have been taking Premarin since then. I also had a baseline mammogram done right before my surgery and everything was fine. I am now 40 years old and just recently had my second mammogram done. I was called back to have more films taken on one side and I have to return in six months to be checked again. The radiologist is saying that this area is "probably benign". There is no history of breast cancer in my family.
Avatar n tn You must do what is right for you and your health. Your body will use the progesterone that your uterus made and it will run out in about 3-4 months. Do you still have your ovaries? You can replace the progesterone with bioidentical progesterone (you can get this without a prescription) or go for prescription strenght. Please do not confuse progestin(synthetic) with progesterone. They are two totally different things.
Avatar f tn ) Ultrasound to look for follicles--if you were my patient, I would start ultrasounding about cycle day 11 or so. And a progesterone level on cycle day 21. Now about the Premarin--Clomid helps to induce ovulation ( if it works) but it can have some side effects on the cervical mucus and the uterine lining--both can be thin and unfriendly. (Femara is much less likely to cause these problems).
163305 tn?1333672171 All the lawsuits involve the drugs Premarin, an estrogen replacement, and Prempro, a combination of estrogen and progestin. The drugs are prescribed to women to ease symptoms of menopause. The Reno panel deliberated for two days before announcing its verdict late Wednesday in favor of Jeraldine Scofield, 75, of Fallon; Arlene Rowatt, 67, of Incline Village; and Pamela Forrester, 64, of Yerington.
Avatar n tn I think her doctors will be making the decision to stop taking Premarin.
Avatar f tn I have been on estrogen replacement since my surgery in 1998. I still have moderate-severe hot flashes and they seem to be getting more intense with age. I switched from oral Premarin which covered me pretty well but I didn't want to be taking pills the rest of my life. Since then I have tried a variety of patches that are really not very effective on a regular basis and very expensive. At my age, what do you recommend. Is Premarin dangerous (risk of DVT).

Avatar f tn Hello: hoping somebody can help me. I have been on Premarin.625mg for 7 months and did very well. Before that, I had tried everything else with very little improvement. Before Premarin I was having hot flashes, anxiety, and terrible insomnia. After the first few days of taking Premarin, I began to notice great improvement. My hot flashes went away and insomnia disappeared. I had a few bumps along the way but then everything balanced out. Now, the old symptoms have returned with a vengeance.
Avatar f tn Hello, Premarin contains conjugated estrogen and birth control pills contain both estrogen and progesterone. Both are different and you can take them together. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn I have lost 7 pregnancies and started the aspirin and progesterone before getting pregnant and I am now 8w pregnant and have heard my baby's h/b three times. I have not ever gotten this far with the others so please pray for me. I stay tried and sleepy as a side affect. I do the Prometrium progesterone supp. 200mg twice a day will have to until 13w. in addition to this, since getting pregnant my doctor put me on progesterone shots once a week which my husband gives them to me.
135691 tn?1271100723 They cannot legally call it progesterone. So, they put the drug progestin in with the fake estrogen, Premarin, and called it "Prempro" (Premarin + Progestin). you were supposedly covered. You had it all. Yuck. Progestins are not good. There have been great concerns about breast cancer, etc......well...just go and find the side effect list of progestin or will see. And, I would bet that high cholesterol is listed, too. The problem now is this.....
Avatar n tn After 2 days of taking Prempro I decided not for me. I think I need Progesterone and would like to know if others use the cream and what brand. Or any advice appreciated. Thank- you.
Avatar f tn My doc tested my progesterone level and it was 3.0. He put me on Clomid 100 mg and Premarin 0.3 mg. The next blood test my progesterone level was 0.9. Now he has put me on Metformin 500 mg twice a day. I am not over weight, in fact I am almost under weight. I was just wondering if anyone else had had their progesterone level drop the second month or if anyone had any advice.
Avatar f tn I will have to dig out my books, but I believe progesterone uses the same cell receptor sites as estrogen. Progesterone will balance the estrogen effects and so even if you are not taking supplemental estrogen, you are making some estrogen as a by-product of a substance made in the fat of menopausal women. It is called Estrone and it is a strong estrogen.
Avatar n tn After taking prempro for a few days I was bleeding again. The dr. put me back on just premarin, and I stopped, he then told me to try prempro again and I started bleeding again. The more I took the heavier it got. My body is telling me that I cannot take progesterone. Do you have any thoughts on this matter?
Avatar f tn I read some of the posts and many speak of progesterone, plus reading about it - it states it helps metabolize fat (bingo!!!!) But I was under the impresion (uneducated impression) that you do not need the progesterone if you due not have a uterus... that the progesterone was to help reduce symptoms and CA risk within the uterus. Can you all please share your thoughts with PROGESTERONE - with no uterus ENJUVIA if anyone has taken it and estrogen - How do yu all like it???
Avatar f tn I did the saliva test, and results came back that I am estrogen dominant and dhea and prog. and test very low. So they pharmacist started me on 5 mg of dhea and also a progest. cream. I was good for 4 days and thought I found the cure. Until just last Wed all the way until today...that is 6 days....I started with severe cramps, pain in lower back, almost as if I was getting my menstrual cycle. Then came the Diarrhea and I am not talking one time....
2176548 tn?1340681417 Anyone who has been on Lupron, Premarin and Medroxy ever experience sore breasts and increase in breast size? My boobs have gotten bigger and are like constantly sore!!! Hurts to take off my bra!! Please help!!!
Avatar f tn Over the past 5 years however, it my sensitivity to stimulation is dropping a lot. I take .625 premarin daily, but no progesterone or testerone. I would like to regain my responsiveness. What might work for me. This discussion is related to Sex and Hystrectomies.
Avatar f tn I am totally unfamiliar with this protocol for treating fibroids and wasn't able to find any information online. It seems odd to follow fibroid surgery with estrogen HRT (premarin and estrone are both types of estrogen) since estrogen causes fibroids to grow... You should call your doctor and ask when your period should start. I'm surprised your doctor did not tell you to use protection (condom, diaphragm) until you are ready to get pregnant since Premarin does not prevent pregnancy...
Avatar m tn I'm wondering about using progesterone cream. Anyone have a similar experience? I'm 60 years old and in otherwise good health. I'm not on any prescription medications.
135691 tn?1271100723 Sorry to barge in here...but I have been following along with Becky regarding this issue. (difficult surgical menopause, age 49, surgery 6 months ago due to complex cysts, no ovca but very interested in this issue now as a result). I do question the safety of estrogen for us ALL. I noticed you said "...I would consider estrogen, low dose and without the addition of progesterone" and I wondered if you could perhaps expand on why no progesterone? Or are you referring to progestin?
1344197 tn?1392822771 17-beta estradiol, the most biologically active; estrone, a derivative of estradiol and the second most dominant estrogen; and estriol, a very short-acting estrogen and the least biologically active. The first misconception is that US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-regulated drugs are not bioidentical. This is wrong. A long list of FDA-approved hormone products contain 17-beta estradiol and, therefore, are bioidentical.
Avatar f tn I meet with a nurse every three months to make sure I am in balance with my estrogen and progesterone and the testosterone, too...which helps not only with desire but with mood, clarity of mind, chemical sensitivity, and believe it or not, clumsiness (I can attest to that one!). I want to be on a small amount of estrodial (I am on .075 now seven years after the surgery) and will probably drop to .050 next month).
Avatar n tn He has given me Premarin to take (thinking that it will balance out the progesterone in the IUD). I'm to try this for 2 months and go back. Is it possible to be nearly through menopause and still be having periods (even if they are light)?
