Avatar f tn s Colitis. As I had stopped prednisone to go onto budesonide, I had no protection in the colon, hence the flare. After leaving hospital (where I was on holiday in Florida) I saw my gastro in England and asked for methotrexate, oral at first 25 mg a week, now for the past 6-7 yrs weekly injections of 12.5mg. Doing very well, and although there can be serious side effects such as liver toxicity and disruption to the bone marrow, I am monitored monthly and have no problems.
Avatar m tn I lost my job and my medical coverage and have been taking Prednisone, 15mg per day, as a stop gap. This is the only medication I have used which stops this condition and allows me to have a mostly normal resperatatory function with a loss of taste and smell and a mild congestion in my throat. I'm now starting to have side effects from this medication which includes: hot flashes, weight gain, hives, and some blurred vision.
Avatar f tn Budesonide is the generic name, i am on Entocort with contains budesonide, because budesonide is not sold generically in the state of new jersey. I have been on it for about 3 months now, but I was also on it for quite awhile a few years ago. I have never had anything but success with it. there are no side effects. I will be on it for another 2 months and my dr plans to take me off of it.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your response. It's crazy -- he's on sooo many medications right now: Viokase (digestive enzymes), insulin, budesonide (as opposed to prednisone and prednisolone). I'm actually trying this "Instinct" brand of cat food which is rabbit and also grain free -- as he appears to be allergic to every other protein! It's just that we're at a point now where we're unsure of how he will do if we were to stop medicating him... I hope to turn a corner soon..
Avatar f tn I think everybody takes it for granted that it is, I read a few (credible scientific) articles on this subject and some say the benefits are modest vs the contraindications. Elsewhere I read they are prescribed for days or weeks, my doctors told me to keep using them indefinitely. Wish you all the best, meaning let's hope we don't get worse too fast...
1580703 tn?1651904887 O2 was going down to 89 and I had flank pain for a few minutes can the ER really mess up a potassium blood test like that? the doc just put me on prednisone for asthma. can I do anything to lower my AST/ALT levels? I was taking 2g/day of methenamine and sodium salicylate for a UTI pain that wouldn't go away on antibiotics, cystex.
Avatar m tn I took Primatene mist for asthma 2 months back but my doctor asked me to stop using it and prescribed PREDNISONE, ALBUTEROL inhaler and BUDESONIDE and I have been taking these for past two months. My tests came negative. My question are 1) Is test conclusive? 2) Does medications mentioned above cause false negative? 3) It was 8 panel test which includes Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HSV 1, HSV 2, HIV and syphilis. All except HSV 1 came negative.
7052683 tn?1392938795 lucky tho that she has such a good mommy and is helping her as best she can. Its always such a difficult dilemma to weight the pros and cons the quality of life vs quantity. First of all you need to decide if these medication are helping her or just adding to her troubles. Are you positive its the med that is causing the diarrhea? thats not one of the side effects listed, in fact constipation is. so perhaps the dosage isn't yet just right???
461838 tn?1255790216 I am on and off prednisone and can never sleep when I am on it. It is a great drug for healing but can cause insomnia.
Avatar m tn I went to a doc who said it was probably asthma and prescribed formoterol/budesonide and montelukast sodium. A few months later, my bedroom was treated for termite infestation, the fumes of which I presumed cleared up after about 4 days. After returning to my bedroom for a few nights, I woke up in a panic with severe SOB.
1137036 tn?1263515995 Started on Prednisone 5mg 2 pills 2-3 times a day and Rhinocort budesonide nasal spray yesterday (2-64 mcg doses). Zyrtec during the day and Benedryl at night. No more PND, throat clearing or raw throat. Plus I got in an hour of exercise mall walking at the Emporium yesterday (best to stay indoors, avoid the smog). 5 days without a cigarette. I have 4 days more to go on the Levaquin. This has been a hell of an ordeal, starting a month ago Dec 15.
Avatar n tn I am regularly using Ventloin, Fomertrol+budesonide and Motelukast+LC. The only problem is breathlessness arising from throat tightness. I never wheeze in the life. The throat tightness is getting reduced when i take Ventolin. The doctor say i don't have to take ventolin beacause Fomertrol+budesonide and Motelukast+LC. will prevent the difficulty. But only medicines which seems to be working is Ventolin and Motelukast+LC.
Avatar n tn ) Is there anything besides Prednisone? I was on 5mg of Prednisone earlier this year (in place of Imuran), but my liver enzymes were very bad according to the lab work I had done at the time. Would a higher dose of Prednisone be an option? Is that also harmful to a developing baby? Thank you for your help!!
1378884 tn?1315505845 I also have a workplace injury, fell on sacrum and R hip last November. I am starting a course of prednisone for 30 days. Never had problems with hip, (pain is radiating to my foot) or back until I fell. Is the Doc trying to rule out RA or Osteo for my R hip? I understand that prednisone is a inflammation reducer and autoimmune suppressor. He found a deposit on the bone near hip as well. MRI tomorrow too.
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with asthma and was prescribed ventolin and budesonide inhalers. After a few days of suffering side effects and getting much worse I went back to the doctor and he confirmed that I am allergic to budesonide, which he said is quite unusual. He prescribed me atrovent but from what I understand it is usually a substitute for ventolin not steroids.
Avatar n tn Like anything else it is a risk vs benefit decision that your physician should help you decide. It also depends on what you need the steroids for and what is the method of administration. For example, taking a drug like prednisone has a much bigger chance of adverse effects on the virus than does a steroid injection for a trigger finger, for example. You really need to chat with your doctor about this.
Avatar f tn With oral prednisone the problem is risk vs. benefit. Prednisone affects different people in different ways. It can cause a flare-up of tuberculosis that is in remission or osteomyelitis. In the case of a diabetic, it can completely shut down the immune system. In a person with normal glucose levels the same dose for a person of given weight may only partially compromise the system. Prednisone has other problems. It is a polypeptide, and a signaling substance.
Avatar n tn Over that period I have tried different combinations of Prednisolone, Budesonide, Salazopyrin, Singulair and Colpermin, all with limited success. Presently, I am taking Budesonide (9mg daily) and Salazopyrin (150mg daily). Whilst this allows me to function normally (i.e. normal bowel movements) I have discomfort, bloating and cramping all day, every day. Has anybody ever come through this disease to lead a normal life, or has anyone treated a patient that has done so?
649758 tn?1229841488 Id reccomend getting a seccond opinion about the benneficial vs lethal effects of your prednisone. It is normally only prescibed for a week max.
17080824 tn?1453552185 t take any form of drugs. and do not smoke, do not drink and I am a vegetarian. Yes I am inhaling Budesonide Powder to tackle with chronic cough issue. Is it the reason then ? Thank you doctor for your reply and suggestion.
Avatar n tn So I switched from prednisone to corfef because the prednisone bothered by stomach. The prednisone worked great, but now the cortef doesn't seem to work that well for me. I have only been on it for a few days. Am I feeling weird because the prednisone takes a while before going out of my system? I am wondering if I should have just stuck with the prednisone, even though it bothered my stomach because I felt good on that. Thank you to those who always answer my questions!!!!
Avatar f tn 86% vs. 24% in prior relapsers, 57% vs. 15% in prior partial responders and 31% vs. 5% in prior null responders. Best of luck to you.
776872 tn?1247938680 Prednisone is used because it is pretty effective, I think. There is Budesonide (aka Entocort, Rhinocort), which I hear has less side effects. Your docs may also try concurrent 5-ASA class anti-inflammatories like Asacol, Colazal and immunosuppressants like 6-MP or Azathioprines. There is also Remicade IV infusion, but it expensive and is generally not given until other treatments have been exhausted.
Avatar m tn I've had a terrible headache that comes and goes, but has been burning throughout my face, top and sides of head for over a month and nausea for the past two weeks. Generally, the worst attacks or "flare ups" as I can best describe them occur first thing in the morning when I get up and at night time.
Avatar f tn Her liver numbers were going down on high doses of Prednisone, but as we wean down on that and introduce immunosuppressive drugs, her liver numbers are climbing fast again. So we are going back up on Predisone now and not increasing the immunosuppressive drugs just yet. I am concerned, because I know Prednisone is not a long-term-use drug. I am wondering if she needs to see a hepatologist instead of her gastroenterologist, or if they are pretty much one in the same?
Avatar f tn Hi Linda, Probably cut back the Prednisone too soon. Prednisone is an anti-inflammatory and appetite stimulant . My cat has had asthma and takes a steroid in an inhaler so it goes right into the lungs not systemic. She is taking a drug call Budesonide right now for IBD. It keeps her eating without her getting sick and throwing up. She also does not seem to need her inhaler as much. Your cat may just need to take the Pren for a little while longer until the inflammation clears up completely.
Avatar n tn i vs had thyroid tbl for 30 plus years. I am taking .2 mc also predsione 7 1/2 mig. took a tsh told my it came back 24.7 t think this a lab error ask to re-runs test said in 8 weeks with no changes in medsl that sounds disgracefull to wait that long?
