Avatar m tn this concerns me, if what you mean is PREDNISONE (the canine variety of prednisolone). How long has your dog been taking prednisolone? This is a very powerful drug that should not be given long term. It can cause some severe and very damaging side-effects. Prednisolone does not cause or treat seizures, but it can create some severe symptoms and primaryt conditions that can lead to a dog having seizures.
Avatar f tn Before giving these meds, I would call your vet and make sure this other dog doesn't have any contraindications to steroids. Steroids are not benign in many situations and other health conditions...I can't give info on giving meds to animal that it is not prescribed for so, your vet may be able to give the advice if he/she has seen the other dog. Does your other dog have any health conditions that you know of? How old is it?
Avatar n tn She told me she thought I might have COPD, and if things did not clear up she also gave me a prescription for Prednisone. I told her I do not want to take it, but she gave me the prescription anyhow in case I needed it. I am looking for some information myself as to what is it supposed to do for you.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I've been given prednisone 10mg for 30 days and was previously on 10 days of 25-50mg of HC. Is it ok for the liver and will it damage the adrenals or cause adrenal atrophy? thanks so much!!!
577603 tn?1217700205 How many mgs a day? I was on them for weeks started at 40 mgs for 2 wks then tamper down. Yes you will have side effects as the drug gets in your system Acne was my biggest one. Then being hyper then down this will happen also. There are lots of side effects with prednisone it really just depends how long you are on the drug itself.
Avatar n tn Also, for prednisolone and prednisone, the doctor doesn't just"advise" you to taper.
Avatar m tn My cat has been on prednisone for one year (not for IBD, but a different issue) and we started at 5mg twice a day and slowly weaned down to our current dose of 2.5 daily. We can't drop below 2.5 daily or it becomes ineffective. I spoke to my vet a couple weeks ago about alternatives because living on prednisone is dangerous (and my cat's only 3) but there really aren't any good alternatives, so we're stuck.
Avatar m tn hello , I had an exposure 11 weeks ago and used prednisolone between weeks 8 to 11 , and after that got a negative ag/ab elisa hiv test . (11 weeks after exposure) . my question is that :as prednisone is an immunosupressant , could it hide my hiv antibodies ? if yes , how about hiv ag ? and is my hiv ag/ab test after 11 weeks (with 3 weeks use prednisolone) accurate ?
Avatar f tn I have secondary adrenal deficiency due to pituitary injury. I've been taking 5mg prednisone in the morning and 5mg Cortef at noon. Normally I have cortisol levels done in the AM without any meds; but last time, I took my labs after taking prednisone. I took 5mg prednisone at 6 am and my 9am serum cortisol was 1.7 ug/dL. This is much lower than my usual a.m. cortisol (5-7ug/dL). I did some research and an endocrinology textbook (thank you Google books!
443004 tn?1205266624 I had a cat that had IBS her whole life, and the poor thing was just miserable without her meds (prednisolone injections and occasional antibiotics). Nutrical is excellent for putting weight on cats that are in health crises. Most of them just love the taste of it, as well, so much so that they will lick it right out of the tube. It's sold in most vets' offices, however it's also available at places like PetSmart, and it's considerably cheaper at PetSmart.
Avatar n tn i've been on prednisone 80mg for almost 2 months for my asthma, my doctor hasn't mentioned calcium supplements but I do take a multivitamin on a daily basis.
Avatar f tn I'm going to check out Chewy for the Dasuquin, and will call the vet tomorrow about prednisolone. Our other cat was on it for years for IBD, I can't see why it couldn't be tried for this one, even if it was just for a short while.
Avatar m tn m wondering how people take oral prednisone, and is that similar to oral methylprednisolone? I know of 20mg prednisone/prednisolone tablets, but I keep reading that some people opt for 1,250mg oral prednisolone per day instead of IV. Thats an extreme amount of tablets per day. Is this correct? Also I read that they take the oral pred over 3 weeks, then again I read that its taken as the IV would be taken i.e - over 3-5 days. Which is correct? Pls help, thank you.
Avatar m tn I have a chronic inflammatory disease, which is notorious for affecting adrenals and thyroid as well. So, Prednisolone is a miracle medication for me...BUT it wreaks havoc because of the immune suppression and allows the infection to procreate. Once I finish a cycle of Prednisolone, I'm toast. The infection comes raging back like the Hulk gets angry. I lost serious depth perception and have terrible trails in my vision because of this.
Avatar m tn Hello worriedman198, Prednisolone - the active form of prednisone. According to the reference book I'm currently looking at, The Canadian Guide to Drugs and Supplements" published by Reader's Digest, prednisone/prednisolone, has the following information for users. * Your drug prescription is tailored for you. Do not alter dosage without checking with your physician.
446896 tn?1237802742 This is why doctors do not recommend the cessation of prednisone when the patient has taken it for longer than seven days. They reduce the dose gradually over a few days in the case of short-term prednisone use, and over weeks or months in the case of long-term treatment. So pls talk to your doctor about the tapering off and if any of the symptoms occur after stoppage of the medicine then pls, report to the doctor immediately. I hope I have provided you with sufficient information.
Avatar n tn In fact I wanted to ask you for what you are on prenisolone for?For the present episode or for some other problem, how long?sure prednisolone can cause stomach problems.Did not the prescribing doc told you to withdraw in phases?
Avatar f tn HIV COMBO test came negative after 46, 70, 124 and 138 days . I have been taking 5 mg Prednisolone daily for last one year . I have below concern 1. Prednisolone can delay antibodies? 2. These results are conclusive or need to repeat at 6 months?
1298409 tn?1272846202 I took prednisone for my IVF but i insisted on it because i did test positive for antibodies. My dr said that it's not known if prednisone does actually work and it was up to me if i wanted to take it. I was prescribed 10mg 1x a day. i did get pregnant but miscarried 8 weeks later due to a chromosome abnormality. I have heard of RE's having prednisone as the standard prescription for IVF as well. good luck!
9214378 tn?1408881584 So he was taken off the prednisone, but when the label was printed off, it was the wrong instructions and he was taken off too quickly. He acted like himself, except for drinking a lot, before he was taken off the prednisone. That was when he vomited and was lethargic. He was taken to the vet and he had a high glucose levels and his kidney and liver levels were messed up. But he urinated so then we prayed for him to eat. He was 14. He then had a seisure, was unresponsive and breathing heavily.
Avatar f tn If prednisone is safe for cats...I can help you with mg/kg dosing. I do understand about not being able to afford a vet on a fixed income. My experience is Vet offices won't even consider giving you basic over the counter information or basic emergency information....which is sad for the animals.
Avatar m tn sorry, can't answer this one...I don't know any info on LDN vs Prednisolone? I think you should call your Dr office and ask there... they are the best ones to ask.
Avatar m tn prednisone is a steroid as you know, it is used to reduce inflammation and is often used to treat tumors, but it does have its side effects too. a better choice for cats is PREDNISOLONE I will send you some info on that the last line states "data indicates oral prednisolone is a superior choice for cats" this too is a steroid and has side effects....diabetes being one.
Avatar m tn I am worried because I just had surgery on my right eye for a detachment and I am very near sighted in my left eye which I understand can be a factor in retinal detachments., Also, my dr. has me on prednilosone to try and prevent scar tissue from the surgery on my right eye. She is taking me off at 5 weeks post surgery. What is the normal amount of time one should stay on this medication to prevent scaring? Originally, she said she wanted to keep me on as long as possible.
