Before giving these meds, I would call your vet and make sure this other dog doesn't have any contraindications to steroids. Steroids are not benign in many situations and other health conditions...I can't give info on giving meds to animal that it is not prescribed for so, your vet may be able to give the advice if he/she has seen the other dog. Does your other dog have any health conditions that you know of? How old is it?
I have heard that statement numerous times about being weaned off of Prednisone. Why were you taking Prednisone? I am trying to avoid the use of it if possible.
I just went to the doctor very sick with congestion, fever, cough, nasal drip, sinus pressure. She told me she thought I might have COPD, and if things did not clear up she also gave me a prescription for Prednisone. this concerns me, if what you mean is PREDNISONE (the canine variety of prednisolone). How long has your dog been taking prednisolone? This is a very powerful drug that should not be given long term. hello , I had an exposure 11 weeks ago and used prednisolone between weeks 8 to 11 , and after that got a negative ag/ab elisa hiv test . (11 weeks after exposure) . my question is that :as prednisone is an immunosupressant , could it hide my hiv antibodies ? if yes , how about hiv ag ?
and is my hiv ag/ab test after 11 weeks (with 3 weeks use prednisolone) accurate ?

My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. Ive been on prednisolone 30mg for 3 weeks and also IV for 3 days ! Ive now been put up to 60mg for 2 weeks and my face as already started to go moon face ! It is making me so down ! So i have taken omnacortil10mg(Prednisolone) and Gabaneuron for the past 45 days only in the night due to some neuropathy problems. I have taken 2 hiv antibody tests after 8th and 12th week. Both are came back negative.
I have read that the above mentioned steroids can delay the seroconversion period. So my questions are
1)Is these steroids affect my 12 week HIV test?
2)Do i need further testing?
This did not work either, so the ivomec was increased to 2ml and a treatment of 5mg prednisolone was given for one week along with a treatment of 1 biotin daily. At first this seemed to help but after she came off of the prednisolone she started to lose hair again and the flakes started again. My vet then advised me to give her a constant dose of the prednisolone i.e 1 tablet every other day. This did not work.The yellow flakes are now all over her body and she scratches all night.
Please help. Our 4 mo old lab puppy was put on prednisone to treat his "puppy strangles". He went through the prednisone and anti biotocs but the strangles wasn't compleTely cleared up and got bad again with in a couple days of completing his meds. Went back to the vet and she prescribed another course of prednisone and antibiotics.
His strangles cleared up really well with in 2 days.
HIV COMBO test came negative after 46, 70, 124 and 138 days . I have been taking 5 mg Prednisolone daily for last one year . I have below concern 1. Prednisolone can delay antibodies? 2. These results are conclusive or need to repeat at 6 months?
