Water retention is a symptom of hypothyroidism. I found this online from the about website "Help for Bloating/Water Retention in Thyroid Patients" and i'm going to try it.

You might want to try some supplements like Potassium and Magnesium. Many people suffer from cramps and spasms from a lack of these minerals.
They are available at drug stores.

Potassium and Calcium and important electrolytes in muscles. Potassium is one of those electrolytes you dont really want to be messed up in your body. High potassium levels can cause heart dysrrhythmias, since your heart is a big muscle, Other signs of hyperkalemia(increased potassium) are nausea vomitting, restlessness, irritability, I am looking in my book right now to make sure i can give you the most accurate information. Chloride there is not much on.
t know much about heart disease or high blood pressure but let me tell you a couple things I know about this medication. Lisinopril is used to control high blood pressure and water retention. Too strong of a dosage can cause diarrhea which can cause potassium to drop low.
Losartan - potassium (Cozarr) is used to control hypertension and might be a better fit for your daughters condition as the side effects are similar.

Edema usually is present in secondary aldosteronism, that means the aldosterone can be high, sodium normal/low (water retention), potassium low/normal and aldosterone and renin activity increased. In this patients hypovolemia stimulates the renin-angiotensin mechanisms resulting in high aldosterone....the blood pressure can be normal or increased.
Primary aldosteronism (Conn's) is what awatson told you ..., and usually there is mild to moderate hypertension.
