pneumonia

Avatar n tn when the pneumonia viral gets into blood, how to cure it ? for old people 78yo, wtih parkinson disease.
Avatar n tn You could have a secondary bacterial infection that you can get after viral pneumonia that is called walking pneumonia and is caused by either bacteria called Mycoplasma or Chlamydia pneumoniae. "Walking" pneumonia gives you a low grade fever, tiredness, dry hacking cough, pain in the ribs area. They can check for these by testing and culture. It is important for you to get your lungs listened to to make sure you are ok.
Avatar n tn Bacterial or viral lung infection can precipitate asthma with wheezing in a person genetically predisposed to asthma. Treatment of the presumed asthma, aside from treatment of the infectious pneumonia, is appropriate. So, this could be asthma, superimposed on pneumonia. Your son could have whooping cough, despite immunization against it. If his fever and sweating with clammy skin has subsided, it is probably a sign that the antibiotic therapy has been effective and the pneumonia is clearing.
Avatar m tn These complications can include dehydration, ear or sinus infections, and bacterial or viral pneumonia, which can fill the air sacs in the lungs with pus or fluid, making it difficult to breathe and depriving older patients of adequate oxygen. In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar f tn With treatment bacterial is cured in 1-2 weeks..viral will last longer. There are vaccines now .The type of anti biotic depends on the type of pneumonia she has , as she has only taken the meds for a few days I would continue as prescribed but if indeed she seems worse and her temperature climbs it may be aswell to have her checked out again ..
Avatar n tn Hi bibban12, The thing about pneumonia is it's just a broad term for lung inflammation, and the air sacs filling up with fluid, but it isn't a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia.
Avatar n tn As a rule, viral pneumonias do not behave this way and it should not be assumed that this is a viral infection. However, what begins as a viral pneumonia can frequently lead to a superimposed bacterial infection. Good luck. Please give us a follow-up to let us know how your son is doing.
Avatar m tn As you have had it for so long, the doctor may even take a sample of your coughed up phlegm to test for any bacterial or viral infection. Make sure you drink plenty of warm drinks, avoid milk products as this encourages the formation of mucus. Keep warm and away from draughts.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. I have a question maybe someone can help me with. I went to my MD last wednesday and he put me on an antibiotic for an upper respiratory infection. The only sx. I had at the time was a temp of 102.8 and a stuffy nose. Well I took the antibiotic and my fever continued spiking to 101.4 but tylenol was effective. On day five of antibiotic therapy I started having yellow secretions from nose and a continued with fever.
Avatar n tn Now she has Pneumonia, her Right Inferior Lung is collapsed, and she has a paralyzed diaphragm. What could have caused this? The doctor's say it is not from the surgery, but maybe from an underlying condition she already had. She's been 6 weeks and has not received an answer from the doctors as to specific treatment, or what may have caused it. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn One might suspect that you have underlying asthma and that when you get a viral infection each year, it triggers pneumonia –like symptoms. I would suggest getting a pulmonary function test while you are sick to see if this is, indeed, asthma. If this is not the case, another possible reason is that the local immune system in your lungs is not protecting you from the infection. This is usually an antibody problem and can be checked with a blood test.
620048 tn?1358018235 that is recommended for treatment of pneumonia. The steroid is probably more for your COPD then the pneumonia itself as your breathing is probably worse. In hospital they would have started you on IV steroids and then tapered you to the oral dose. most people stay in the hospital only a few days with moderate pneumonia. With the added respiratory problems maybe you would have stayed in another day or two. Depending on your respiratory status prior to the pneumonia could be 2-4 weeks.
Avatar m tn I went to the ER, had another chest x-ray, and was told I had Viral Pneumonia. I was given different medications (and an inhaler with aerochamber) and sent home. The medicine was actually starting to work until it ran out. I finally got in to see my regular doctor. He examined me and decided something had irritated my lungs. He put me on an Advair inhaler. A week later there was no difference, so I saw the doctor again.
Avatar f tn Anyway, there are different reasons we get pneumonia. People think of bacterial or viral. We can also have chemical or traumatic. And pneumonia is not like bronchitis. So, symptoms are not always as predictable. It can take a while to get over. If you still have your symptoms on day 5 on antibiotics, I would call your doctor. The thing with antibiotics is that different ones treat different pathogens. What pathogen caused your pneumonia if it is bacterial?
Avatar m tn i have had flu like symptoms along with a very nasty cough for just over 4 weeks now, the doc prescribed amoxicillin 500mg, 7 day treatment which had no affect, I'm now experiencing chronic pain under my right lower rib cage, could you help?
Avatar m tn Upon getting the formal results of the X-ray however, i was then diagnosed with Bi-basal Pneumonia in the results with hazy reticular densities at both lungs. Upon consulting a Pulmonologist I was told that my lungs sounded fine. however upon looking at my X-ray he gave me a prescription of Co-amoxiclav and Tranexamic acid and told me to go for a week of treatment for possible pneumonia.
Avatar f tn I am hive positive female. I recently developed bronchial pneumonia and got worse after having side effects to ethromycine antibiotics. Before I got the pneumonia my doctor had switched my hiv meds to triumeq which was 2 and half month before getting the pneumonia. Before then I felt perfectly heathy and my cd count was in the 600s and viral load undetected. NOW I HAVE PAIN ALL THE TIME ESPECIALLY IN THE WALLS OF MY CHEST. it feels like muscle ache or something.
Avatar f tn Hi and thanks for using the forum. You could have the lingering cough for a while. Since the chest x-ray is normal, then you probably don't have pneumonia. It is more than likely viral in nature (especially since you have done both courses of antibiotics). My only other suggestion would be to ask your doctor about a course of steroids. They could help open up your airway a bit and calm down your cough if indicated. Also, a nebulizer treatment could help.
Avatar n tn It seems that you started with a viral infection. Bacterial infections often piggyback on viral infections. Azithromycin 250 is appropriate, although it should have been for seven to ten days. You should take this medication with grapefruit juice, which will improve it's effectiveness. Absolutely positively no alcohol. It is pointless to look at "pictures' of bacteria. You have bacterial pneumonia. Get 45 minutes of sunlight every day.
Avatar f tn 6 weeks ago I was diagnosed with pneumonia through a chest x-ray. I was put on Avelox and an inhaler. Two days later I had to go to the ER b/c the symptoms were worse. Breathing was more difficult. I was then given an antibiotic shot and a Zpac. They did a blood test-WBC was normal. I started to feel better the next week. However, as soon as the antibiotic round was over, my symptoms began to return. I run a low fever on and off all day of 99.
Avatar f tn t know yet, will be retested in Feb. I stopped tx after 8 months because I had pneumonia for 6 weeks and after that some kind of infection every month. Just could not take it any longer. Thought I'd bounce back right away and am really down and out that I still feel so bad.
Avatar f tn Hi and sorry you are ill. I have had this too. Usually, it is more common to get "walking pneumonia" or bronchitis after having a viral infection like the flu. I don't think you are reinfecting yourself. Did you have a virus recently? Also, usually walking pneumo is caused by a bacteria , mycoplama or chlamydia pneumonia. Did you get any antibiotics for it the first time? If not perhaps the bacteria was lingering and when you got overtired or ill you got it back.
322064 tn?1233257028 Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones and will get SVR (sustained viral response) even with your short treatment. If not, retreatment is an option as well as some new drugs that may be available in the future. None of these options will do you much good unless you are well enough to treat.
Avatar f tn I am also taking an antiviral med for EBV / CFS. The drug is Famvir. I take one pill per day. The goal is to keep EBV in check and hopefully eliminate my CFS. I did not realize the side effects of this drug. Wow. I also show mycoplasma infections (mycoplasma pneumonia / chlamida pneumonia) which no doctor believes requires treatment. Anyway, I've been on the antiviral drug for just over 2 months with no sign of improvement. In fact, I feel worse.
