pneumonia

Avatar f tn With treatment bacterial is cured in 1-2 weeks..viral will last longer. There are vaccines now .The type of anti biotic depends on the type of pneumonia she has , as she has only taken the meds for a few days I would continue as prescribed but if indeed she seems worse and her temperature climbs it may be aswell to have her checked out again ..
Avatar n tn If you have a virus that resulted in pneumonia, while allopathic medicine has little in the way of anti-virals, there are plants that have anti-viral properties. Olive leaf and elderberry are two examples. Herb Pharm makes a tincture that helps with virus control. That being said, though, and assuming this is viral in nature, once you have pneumonia you have progressed significantly through the viral process already and the more important thing is clearing the lungs.
Avatar f tn I looked up treatment of children after the above post. It appears that there are centers that specialize in treatment of children with liver disease. It isn't recommended that children under 3. Triple treatment isn't approved for treatment in children. The current treatment approved for children is Peg and ribavirin. There is lots to consider before treating someone so young. I personally would not unless it was life threatening. Remember people can live with hepatitis C.
Avatar n tn You could have a secondary bacterial infection that you can get after viral pneumonia that is called walking pneumonia and is caused by either bacteria called Mycoplasma or Chlamydia pneumoniae. "Walking" pneumonia gives you a low grade fever, tiredness, dry hacking cough, pain in the ribs area. They can check for these by testing and culture. It is important for you to get your lungs listened to to make sure you are ok.
Avatar m tn These complications can include dehydration, ear or sinus infections, and bacterial or viral pneumonia, which can fill the air sacs in the lungs with pus or fluid, making it difficult to breathe and depriving older patients of adequate oxygen. In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar n tn Bacterial or viral lung infection can precipitate asthma with wheezing in a person genetically predisposed to asthma. Treatment of the presumed asthma, aside from treatment of the infectious pneumonia, is appropriate. So, this could be asthma, superimposed on pneumonia. Your son could have whooping cough, despite immunization against it. If his fever and sweating with clammy skin has subsided, it is probably a sign that the antibiotic therapy has been effective and the pneumonia is clearing.
Avatar f tn I had the flu (a long with my husband and children) we were all really sick for about 5 days. Everyone got over it except for me. I don't feel like it is the flu now though. I have a horrible cough. So 5 days ago I went to the Urgent Care and Dr said probably pneumonia. She gave me antibiotics, prednisone, and albuterol. It has been 5 days. The fevers are just higher. They dont even get better with ibuprofen. I can't function. I have small kids. I feel to sick to drive to the doctor.
Avatar f tn Once someone has been exposed to HCV, they will always show positive for the antibodies, but the amount of active virus (viral load) is what tells you if you have viral replication going on. No active virus would mean not activity going on. It appears that he was exposed to the virus during birth, but cleared it on his own. That's a good thing. :-) Others may explain it better than me. And as always, we are patients, not doctors-so make sure you check with your doctors.
Avatar n tn Hi bibban12, The thing about pneumonia is it's just a broad term for lung inflammation, and the air sacs filling up with fluid, but it isn't a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia.
Avatar n tn As a rule, viral pneumonias do not behave this way and it should not be assumed that this is a viral infection. However, what begins as a viral pneumonia can frequently lead to a superimposed bacterial infection. Good luck. Please give us a follow-up to let us know how your son is doing.
Avatar m tn I saw the doc and she gave me Amoxycillin for 7 days. It then eased but worked its way down to my chest and had l some build up of fluid in the lungs and as a result i was constantly coughing and trying to get it out. It has been going on now for over 7 weeks and will not completely go. It seems to clear up up but every time I get out to exercise it returns. Any ideas of how to get rid of it.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. I have a question maybe someone can help me with. I went to my MD last wednesday and he put me on an antibiotic for an upper respiratory infection. The only sx. I had at the time was a temp of 102.8 and a stuffy nose. Well I took the antibiotic and my fever continued spiking to 101.4 but tylenol was effective. On day five of antibiotic therapy I started having yellow secretions from nose and a continued with fever.
Avatar f tn There can be honest disagreement among experts about the management of RML atelectasis, bronchiectasis and recurrent pneumonia, despite appropriate, intense medical treatment, in young children with a normal immune system. There is general agreement, however that, when localized bronchiectasis, especially of the RML, becomes refractory, more severe or resistant to medical management, lobar resection may be warranted.
Avatar n tn is not recommending treatment - I live in SF and go to UCSF; Teresa Wright is world renown and the acting Director who worked with her is Dr. Mondo. I am assuming all is ok but at this time, I have decided not to have children - mostly b/c of this crazy world we are living in - but since I am not going to have children, part of me wants to have treatment so that I feel as though I can create a future for myself....
Avatar n tn Now she has Pneumonia, her Right Inferior Lung is collapsed, and she has a paralyzed diaphragm. What could have caused this? The doctor's say it is not from the surgery, but maybe from an underlying condition she already had. She's been 6 weeks and has not received an answer from the doctors as to specific treatment, or what may have caused it. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Would carinii pneumonia present itself with just a minor cough and congestion and no fever, no rash or other symptoms. In other words is this type of pneumonia something that is more severe? I have not had an exposure to someone with HIV, but I have allowed myself to receive oral sex on occasion from guys that I did not know their HIV status.
1609219 tn?1298104935 Is it possible to talk to your doctor and ask about having some secretions cultured to see exactly what type of organism is causing the pneumonia?I know it can be bacterial, viral or fungal and the type can and does affect treatment and reoccurence.for example if it were fungal and they used the antibiotics it might tamper down the symptoms but allow the fungal count to increase and then reoccur.
Avatar f tn Same here.. I was in the hospital from Jan. 17-23 Pneumonia in my Left "lobular pneumonia" here we are now on Feb 20, 2022 and my left rib cage feels like someone hit me hard there.. but my 02 is in the mid 90%.. but it really hurts to cough sneeze as you say burp.. which sucks because I am supposed to be trying to cough up remnants of the phlegm, But coughing is painful so tend to try to suppress it.. Avatar f tn I have gotten Pneumonia 3 years in a row. I got the flu and Pneumonia shot this year and still got iPneumonia. What is going on with me. My doctor keeps giving me steroids that are blowing me up and not stopping me from catching this illness. Please help. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor but I have Googled your question and this is what I found: "Pneumonia in children and adults is caused by bacteria, virus, fungi or protozoa. Out of these, bacteria are the most common microorganisms, that have been found to cause pneumonia. These microorganisms usually enter the body through mouth, nose and eyes, and then infect the lungs, especially the air sacs or alveoli of the lungs. Pneumonia is more commonly found to affect the lower lobes of the lungs.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with me???? I took clarithromycin for pneumonia back in May, and within a few days I was experiencing acidic, watery bowel movements that would make the entire anal area itch terribly the rest of the day. After the antibiotics were done, I took probiotics and such. The concern was clostridium difficile colitis, of course. Weeks after I was off the antibiotics, I had pain in my chest area.
377012 tn?1283965435 unfortunately RSV can take up to 8 weeks before it is released from your system hence why he had it twice in 2 months....the reason i thought it could be pneumonia is because of the way is chest moves when he breathes and because RSV can cause pneumonia to be set up in your system since your system is low especially in toddlers!
Avatar m tn 1. flu/fever 2. for the past 2 days, just mainly been sleeping. 3. pain in abdomen 4. no appetite, not too much energy 5. coughing (dry at first, became wet) 6. yellowy phlegm 7. sweating while sleeping and woken up by it at times 8 some diarrhea / indigestion\ 9. nausea You guys tell me to GO HOME it's not a HIV concern because I had "protected" sex? It just seems ****** up to me that I am experiencing these symptoms 1.5 weeks after my encounter with the sex worker.
620048 tn?1358018235 that is recommended for treatment of pneumonia. The steroid is probably more for your COPD then the pneumonia itself as your breathing is probably worse. In hospital they would have started you on IV steroids and then tapered you to the oral dose. most people stay in the hospital only a few days with moderate pneumonia. With the added respiratory problems maybe you would have stayed in another day or two. Depending on your respiratory status prior to the pneumonia could be 2-4 weeks.
Avatar m tn I went to the ER, had another chest x-ray, and was told I had Viral Pneumonia. I was given different medications (and an inhaler with aerochamber) and sent home. The medicine was actually starting to work until it ran out. I finally got in to see my regular doctor. He examined me and decided something had irritated my lungs. He put me on an Advair inhaler. A week later there was no difference, so I saw the doctor again.
Avatar m tn 1. We don't give mendication advice 2. Start a thread dedicated to your question and it will be answered.
Avatar f tn I probably should have put this on the autism forum, but since I know most every one here, and we all have more in common I felt more comfortable just venting here. I am sorry for not keeping in touch the past few weeks. first week pneumonia, second approved for chemo, third no chemo, forth no chem. I dont even want to know what the ca125 is since my numbers are always running pretty high, anyway I am sorry.
