Avatar n tn “This confirms a long-term benefit for pioglitazone and gives an alternative option” in the form of vitamin E, says Kenneth Cusi, an endocrinologist at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Pioglitazone improves insulin signaling, which helps people with diabetes metabolize sugar. But the drug’s effects may also extend to diminishing the amount of fat in the liver, Cusi says.

1124023 tn?1261539248 We have seen pregnancies result in less than two months in women who concieved in their very first ovulatory menstrual cycle." These are metformin [mentioned by Elaine], pioglitazone and rosiglitazone, taken seperately or as combination. I shall definately be asking on Friday, when I've got a routine check-up. My husband and I would love it if we found myself 'with child' for Christmas and reveal it to our parents then.
Avatar m tn t want to jump to conclusions, but I think you need to be proactive and agressive in finding out what this is. I like MedHelp, but its limited in making an actual diagnosis - please visit your physician.
806995 tn?1265823176 agreed that the '08 metformin study did not make a strong case for adding metformin in all patients, however you might also want to look at a recent Khattab'10 study that looked at adding pioglitazone in geno 4s with HOMA1 gt 2. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19919569 They measured across-the-board improvement in SVR rates 60% vs 39% significant at 0.04. Geno 4s seem to be particularly susceptible to IR-related effects so this may not generalize.
Avatar f tn Edeam from abdomen down. Pitted edema in both legs, so severe at night I have trouble walking, does go down over night but still swelled when I wake up. Has been happening for over 3 months. Echo came back normal, and all the lab work, CT scans, ultrasounds have come back normal. I have been a diabetic for 29 years and do have peripheral neuropathy in both legs from the knees down, but that has not gotten any worse before this all started.
Avatar f tn Eat a balanced and healthy diet and increase your physical activity. In addition to limiting calories, avoid diets rich in refined, rapidly digested carbohydrates. This includes limiting foods such as white bread, white rice, and concentrated sugar. Avoiding unnecessary medications can also help slow or reverse the disease. Clinical trials are also looking at the effectiveness of certain antioxidants and newer diabetes medications in treating fatty liver disease.

Avatar n tn Cyst just means fluid with a skin over ti - think of a blister. In PCOS, the cysts are ovarian follicles. that means , around each egg cell there is a circle of cells called follicular cells that produce hormones. Those cells help mature the egg. Every month one egg is selected to mature and to ovulate - that is to pop out of the ovary. In PCOS, ovulation rarely occurs but multiple egg cells with follicle cysts around them develop.

Avatar f tn Some background info first: I was diagnosed with PCOS 3 years ago and ever since I got into university last year it seemed to have got worse. For my last period, again I had to take Provera to make it happen.

1369218 tn?1282423884 I am seeing a new endo in a few weeks. I am low in progesterone, but was told it can cause testosterone to rise if you take supplements. I already have the hair growth thing going on too. My testosterone is elevated at times and normal other times. My periods are doing better since eating gluten free though. I was clotting so bad a few months ago I became anemic. I just feel like a big ball of a mess. I cannot seem to get it all to work right anymore. I used to be able to lose weight.
Avatar f tn Lots of ovarian cysts come and go - but the dermoid cyst is not really in the same class of a PCOS cyst - it could be an undeveloped twin. As for having children in the future, you should still have the other ovary and once you feel better and get your health and your cycle back, all should be well. I had PCOS and Cushing's disease - many cysts and endometriosis etc. I have no idea what you can take that is OTC or natural - there are some bio-identical hormones though.
Avatar n tn Well, meant lucky in the sense you aren't having to deal with a weight issue, an infertility issue, plus all the other issues that go with PCOS. The weight with PCOS usually doesn't budge easily. Well, in any case, this condition is nothing pleasant to deal with.
