Avatar f tn Evangelin posted about this youtube video. "Sugar , the bitter truth" It is a long video , but what I did not know before watching it is that High Fructose Corn Syrup metabolically is as bad as alcohol for the liver. The majority of processed foods we find in the supermarket have High Fructose Corn Syrup which can majorly effect obesity and fatty liver.
Avatar f tn Studies of these medications—including metformin, rosiglitazone, and pioglitazone—are being sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and should answer the question of whether these medications are beneficial in NASH.
Avatar m tn Rosiglitazone, an old diabetes drug is active on hbsag lowering and synergistic with nucs and interferon.these are the drugs to study not stupid nucs that acts on hbvdna only making mutations. on the contrary studies on these cheap and generic durgs are not funded by drug makers, on the contrary we see stupid doctors without trials or studies saying now that these drugs can make liver damage while it is the opposite.
Avatar n tn To test the effectiveness of pioglitazone and vitamin E, Sanyal and colleagues at 11 other medical facilities identified 247 people who had severe fatty liver disease. None of the volunteers drank alcohol excessively or was diabetic, but all were overweight or obese. Their average age was in the mid-40s. The researchers randomly assigned participants to one of three treatments — vitamin E, pioglitazone or a placebo capsule — taken daily for nearly two years.
Avatar f tn Study Confirms Benefits of Vitamin E in Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis Megan Brooks May 4, 2010 — Supplementation with the natural form of vitamin E (800 IU/day) has beneficial effects in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), but pioglitazone's benefits are less clear, according to the latest findings from the Pioglitazone vs Vitamin E vs Placebo for the Treatment of Nondiabetic Patients with Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (PIVENS) trial, reported online April 28 in the New England
Avatar m tn Thank You very much for your reply, As I mentioned above, she was given new medicined once she experienced high blood sugar level few weeks back. She was given Metformin (850 mg) and Pioglitazone (30Mg per day). Once she started experiencing low blood sugar level, the doctor stopped giving Pioglitazone and asked to continue Metformin with few other medicines and the my mother was told that she experiencing such low levels of sugar due to Pioglitazone.
Avatar m tn The newer antidiabetic medications make the body more sensitive to insulin and may help reduce liver injury in patients with NASH. Studies of these medications—including metformin, rosiglitazone, and pioglitazone—are being sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and should answer the question of whether these medications are beneficial in NASH." So NASH is a very serious medical condition which requires expert medical care for the best prognosis.
Avatar f tn For women who are unresponsive to clomiphene, the oral hypoglycemic agents like metformin could be of little help, or pioglitazone, may bring resumption of regular cycles and ovulation. These agents reduce the hyperinsulinemia and hyperandrogenemia in PCOS. These are actually medically prescribed medicines for PCOS.As this syndrome is very common in women the case is often individualised and treatment option will be processed and prescribed.Fell free to talk to your Doc.
Avatar f tn Been doing a bit of research. on www.ivf.com/pcotreat.html and have found that it may be an option for me to have "medicines used....for the treatment of adult onset diabetes... These medications have been shown to reverse the endocrine abnormalities seen with PCOS within two or three months.....We have seen pregnancies result in less than two months in women who concieved in their very first ovulatory menstrual cycle.
1124023 tn?1261539248 I have PCOS too and was on depo provera injections for 2 years but then came off about 2 years ago too. Was regular up until the day before my wedding 16 Oct, then didn't have a period in Nov but came on 01 Dec (day 47!). Looking like a normal period, so think it may have been my body adjusting to the new experiences of being married and the stress that it caused too, although it was around the right time for me in October and the December one (just skipped one I think).
806995 tn?1265823176 agreed that the '08 metformin study did not make a strong case for adding metformin in all patients, however you might also want to look at a recent Khattab'10 study that looked at adding pioglitazone in geno 4s with HOMA1 gt 2. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19919569 They measured across-the-board improvement in SVR rates 60% vs 39% significant at 0.04. Geno 4s seem to be particularly susceptible to IR-related effects so this may not generalize.
Avatar m tn In this laboratory study, the investigators assessed the effects and toxicity of bezafibrate (a PPAR-alpha agonist) and rosiglitazone (a PPAR-gamma agonist) added (24 hours later) to cultures of HepG2 cells infected with a genotype HBV genome with no mutations in the core promotor or precore regions. The 50% cytotoxicity concentration of rosiglitazone was almost 150 mcM and that of bezafibrate was almost 250 mcM; lamivudine demonstrated no cytotoxicity at concentrations less than 1 mcM.
Avatar f tn Nowadays doctors are stopping to use metformin kindly read and do some r&d. Initially even i was on Metformin for PCOD and my doctor suggested to stop it.

Avatar f tn as I do have PCOS and do not ovulate regularly. This last pregnancy I was on clomid to help ovulation and then we did an IUI... which was successful at getting me pregnant... but I just can't seem to keep being pregnant. It is very frustrating. My first pregnancy was my only successful one.. and I have a wonderful 6 year old... but since then I have not been able to maintain a pregnancy.... Is there a way to find out why I seem to be miscarrying so early all the time??
Avatar m tn Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a hepatic disorder associated with the metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. It is a very common problem for which no therapy, short of diet/weight loss and exercise, has shown benefit. Extreme measures of weight loss include bariatric surgery, which has not been well studied, but may be beneficial.[1] Accordingly, there is considerable interest in developing pharmacologic therapies directed toward addressing the presence of insulin resistance.
