Study Confirms Benefits of Vitamin E in Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis

May 4, 2010 — Supplementation with the natural form of vitamin E (800 IU/day) has beneficial effects in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), but pioglitazone's benefits are less clear, according to the latest findings from the Pioglitazone vs Vitamin E vs Placebo for the Treatment of Nondiabetic Patients with Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (PIVENS) trial, reported online April 28 in the New England
To test the effectiveness of pioglitazone and vitamin E, Sanyal and colleagues at 11 other medical facilities identified 247 people who had severe fatty liver disease. None of the volunteers drank alcohol excessively or was diabetic, but all were overweight or obese. Their average age was in the mid-40s.
The researchers randomly assigned participants to one of three treatments — vitamin E, pioglitazone or a placebo capsule — taken daily for nearly two years.

of the two drugs avandia has been found active in another study on hbsag and hbvdna with high potency, so since avandi is active on hbv and suggested as liver cancer prevention and cure it would be good to use it

As I mentioned above, she was given new medicined once she experienced high blood sugar level few weeks back. She was given Metformin (850 mg) and Pioglitazone (30Mg per day). Once she started experiencing low blood sugar level, the doctor stopped giving Pioglitazone and asked to continue Metformin with few other medicines and the my mother was told that she experiencing such low levels of sugar due to Pioglitazone.
For women who are unresponsive to clomiphene,the oral hypoglycemic agents like metformin could be of little help, or pioglitazone, may bring resumption of regular cycles and ovulation. These agents reduce the hyperinsulinemia and hyperandrogenemia in PCOS.

I am on hydrochlorothiazide (water pill) and Zocor for high cholestoral. Also take Humalog and Lantas insulin (4 shots per day). Take Prilosec for GERD and a potasium pill. Also on Peri-Colace for stomach problems. Spoke with the Dr. and discontinued all pills for a few days to see if it had any effect and it did not. Still swelling. Right now about 5 pounds of water, by tonight it will be 10 pounds.
Nowadays doctors are stopping to use metformin kindly read and do some r&d. Initially even i was on Metformin for PCOD and my doctor suggested to stop it.

She has so much tension in her workplace and she is very very tired and exhausted by the time she leaves her work that she cant even stand up.We are very much worried. What should we do? Metformin has demonstrated efficacy for type II DM, and there are other oral meds that can be combined with it if metformin by itself isn’t enough. Pioglitazone and Glipizide are routinely prescribed in conjunction with metformin for DM II management.
Studies of these medications—including metformin, rosiglitazone, and pioglitazone—are being sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and should answer the question of whether these medications are beneficial in NASH.
everything seems to work with lipids/sugars as regards envelopped viruses, but also immune system and cancer are linked to it, many studies have confirmed lower liver cancer incidence with sim and diabetes drug Pioglitazone, and all have also hbv antiviral activity

It is a very common problem for which no therapy, short of diet/weight loss and exercise, has shown benefit. Extreme measures of weight loss include bariatric surgery, which has not been well studied, but may be beneficial.[1] Accordingly, there is considerable interest in developing pharmacologic therapies directed toward addressing the presence of insulin resistance.
I have been up all night reading about this and it has jusy gotten me stressed and the only thing i read was to change my diet and try to lose weight. I guess that is my next step and i will see how this goes. My doctor didnt even give me too much info thats why im so confused i had no idea where to begin.
Studies have indeed show that high blood glucose may predispose to cancer and cancer cells primarily run on glucose. Views on this are diverse and while further studies may need to be done, it is still up to the patient to take this. Westernized approach of cancer has involved chemotherapy and medications while eastern medicine have been employing dietary approach in management of diseases for a long time. I am afraid of the idea of having penile cancer but am only 18 and the last time I had sex was 3.5 months ago. I have have had a painless red rash around my urethra and part of the head of the penis for almost 2 months. I'm worried because STD tests came back negative so I'm wondering if it is HPV that has manifested it into a cancer?
I could be mistaken - but I have looked the evidence over and talked with people here and the theory of RAI and cancer you talk about is reversed. I as an RAI patients back in 2003 was recently informed by an ENT that people that do have RAI - that develop nodules are at a higher risk on the nodule being carcimona. That is not very enlightening for me b/c they found I do have a solid nodule now.
