Common Questions and Answers about Paxil cr withdrawal

paxil

Avatar n tn I was prescribed Paxil CR, 12.5mg for anxiety. I have been on it for about 3 months and week. It helped somewhat but there are days when I don't feel like myself. I would rather make some lifestyle changes to combat my anxiety. So, my doctor told me to stop taking it. I was afraid because of the horror stories that I've heard. So, he gave me a prescription for the regular Paxil; take 2 10mg for the first 3 days and then 1 pill a day for two days. I have the prescription...
Avatar n tn re stuck between what may be side effects of a new med and withdrawal from an old one. Better to complete withdrawal from Paxil first. Read a book called The Antidepressant Solution by Joseph Glanville, and get a psychiatrist who knows about these things. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I have been on Paxil CR for 2 years now, and my highest dosage was 37.5 mg about 5 or 6 months ago. Over the past 6 months I have SLOWLY been reducing my dosage as I feel Paxil CR has not been the right drug for me. I would reduce the dosage about every month and a half. About 1.5 months ago, I reduced my dosage from 12.5 mg to 6 mg. Around this time, I started having EXTREME fatigue and chronic, unbearable nausea. I have had a colonoscopy and endoscopy but both were completely normal.
Avatar m tn I am 3 weeks back on Paxil after a failed attempt to switch medications to Lexapro. I have read a lot that Paxil loses its effectiveness after the first time. I (stupidly) have started, stopped & restarted Paxil on several different occasions and it always has seemed to work. I was on paxil 20mg originally then stopped cold turkey and went back on at Paxil CR 12.5. Upped dose over time to Paxil CR 25mg.
Avatar m tn The doctor thought I may not have enough Paxil in my system so he put me on 25mg Paxil CR twice daily and it made me feel even worse. I felt like I had the flu and very achy. Very bad withdrawal effects. I was then put on regular paxil 40 mg daily and I constantly had the eye zaps and strong depersonalization feelings like I was in a constant withdrawal. I was then switched to Lexapro 20 mg.
Avatar f tn I have been weaning off Paxil from Paxil CR 25 mg, now on Paxil 10 mg (to avoid withdrawal) because I have been on for probably 10 years now. Unfortunately, after about 3 weeks on the lower dose I feel my lack of motivation, melancholy feelings, being less able to handle frustration with work etc all coming back. I really do not want to go back up on my dose of Paxil since it has such severe withdrawal effects if I ever go off it again.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking my Paxil CR 25mg approx 3 weeks ago due to loss of insurance and job. I had been taking them for over 2 years and before that I took other anti-depressants for several years. Since stopping the pills I have been experiencing insomnia and "dizzy spells". The spells last about 1 second, can occur when I take a deep breath, or move my eyes fast, among other reasons, and happen 50+ times per day. I feel this is a direct effect from stopping the pills.
Avatar n tn I have been on and off Paxil for 5 years now. I started on CR low dose, now at 30mg no cr. My body is used to it... and it doesnt help me very much anymore-although it is better than being with out any medication at all. Soon I will be getting re-evaluated and I know they're going to ask me to wean off it. I am really scared, because I know the few times I have lapsed in dose, it has been absolutely horrible. Any advice? Any info? Everything I find online is abstract and not really helpful.
Avatar m tn After a failed attempt to fix my anxiety and subsequent depression that has come from it over the last 14 weeks with Lexapro and Paxil, my psych is switching me too Remeron (Mirtazapine) 30mgs. I started my first dose last night and already started my taper down of Paxil CR 50mg to Paxil CR 37.5 and hold there for a week. I also take Clonazepam 1mg at night to help me sleep due to the paxil. And I take Clonazepam .25mg dissolvable tablets during the day as needed for anxiety.
Avatar m tn Just looking for somebody who has been in the same boat as me and could offer up some advice/support... Last January I had a rough anxiety bout and started back on a combination of Paxil CR 25mg and Clonazepam .5mg. Everything was going smooth, but after a couple of months I noticed my anxiety was getting worse so the doc upped the clonazepam to 1mg. Ok for a couple of months, but after a while anxiety still crept up on me.
Avatar f tn One of the reasons for this is that Paxil is just stronger than any other antidepressant in its affinity for both choline and serotonin receptors. Paxil was the first drug to be exposed for lying about its withdrawal effects, and it's the reason there is a black box warning on all antidepressants now advising a slow taper off the drug, as required by the FDA. Paxil has more walking wounded around than any other drug, although Effexor certainly is nearly as bad.
Avatar f tn Doc prescribed Aropax CR 25 (paxil) he said there was no need to wean off the cilift - weight steadily increased - Doc said impossible!!!?? I asked to change to Prozac (Nuzak - south africa) Again he said I could go straight from the one to the other! Been on Nuzak for about 10 days and not feeling nice. Very emotional - dizzy - nightmares and un-necessary anger. My question - do I stick it out on the Nuzak (for the weight issues) or go back to Paxil or in fact back to Cilift?
Avatar m tn My doc stated that I could switch over to Lexapro from Paxil so I took both for 2 weeks then dropped Paxil all together. Could I still be feeling the affects of Paxil withdrawal? I felt good after 2 weeks and even tried to come down on my Klonopin a couple of days after my paxil ended. Mistake! Just wanting to know if anybody had the same issues and how long do I need to plan on suffering? This is getting old and I'm ready to feel like my old self again.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Paxil CR 12.5 mg for approximately 6 years now. This is NOT something I want to continue. I have been trying to come off of them slowly...for the past week I have been taking them once every other day oppose to once every day. I was doing fine until the 7th day! I am experiencing severe dizziness, extremely bad headaches (which I have never had before), nausea...bad dreams throughout the night. WHAT DO I DO??? Should I continue to do every other day...
Avatar n tn Get a different doctor. This one has no clue how to taper you off Paxil. Yes, you are suffering from withdrawal, Paxil should never be stopped cold turkey. Since there's now way to know if Prozac will work for you at all, there's no way to know if you'll metabolize it well, there's no way to know if it will do what Paxil did. They are different drugs. You need to withdraw from the Paxil first, not add new side effects from a new drug, until you've withdrawn.
Avatar n tn t start to bother me until one day without the caffiene. Is it a cooincidence? Are my symptoms from the caffiene withdrawal, Paxil CR withdrawal, or both? I was taking 37 mg daily. I have an appointment tomorrow with my OBGYN, I am affraid to tell my Dr. that I quit cold turkey against his advice, but I don't like how I feel. What should I do?
Avatar f tn I have been on Paxil for over 10 years, Paxil CR 25 mg and decided to try to get off of them. I am down to Paxil 10 mg (weaning due to horrible withdrawal), and after about 3 weeks on this dose feel symptoms of my depression/anxiety coming back - lack of motivation, feeling melancholy, focusing too much on the negative, anxiety, etc... I do not want to go back up on the Paxil as it has been so hard to come off of.
Avatar n tn I've been on Paxil CR 25 Mg for three years. Recently I lost my insurance and my stepdad has been getting me any anitdepresant that he could find at work. Now he can't find anymore, and I have to stop COLD TURKEY. I did it before a couple of years ago and I managed to get through it. Now I don't know if I can. What should I do to help ease the brain buzz and anger? I was thinking about staying in bed for a weekend or so to get through the bulk of it.
Avatar n tn thanks to you for your insight. I ended up switching from Paxil CR 25 to Paxil 20 (gneric),which surprisingly my insurance pays for. I made the switch today with no adverse things happening, although I know it could be delayed. The goal at this point is to taper off the paxil 20, then get onto prozac. Although maybe I will just stay on the paxil if it keeps going well. The Paxil Cr has been great for me, but inusrance doesn't pay any of it, not even for generic.
Avatar n tn 5 Paxil Cr to 100 mg Zoloft. Paxil increased my weight and blood pressure. I was on it in varied doses for 5 years. I am 2 wks into switch over, cutting back paxil weekly. I am really tired, mind is racing more. Hope this goes okay, and my weight and blood pressure come down. Anyone else?
Avatar f tn ve read other people claiming that name brand Paxil and Paxil cr made a difference when the generic one failed. I'm not sure if that's a route I should have tried first. Hindsight is a real, you know what, lol. I started on name brand and when generic came out I switched and didn't seem to have issues so I doubt that would make a difference, but I've never tried the CR version.
Avatar f tn Hi all, Just wondering, is there any 1 out there that has had a positive experience with Paxil CR. I read alot of horror stories and am just wondering if it has actually helped anyone. You see, I have had panic disorder my whole life. I am 51 now. I was put on Paxil CR a few years ago and I thought it was a miracle drug. Totally got rid of my panic attacks. Still have some anxiety but am menopausal also.

467977 tn?1262714747 Hi! Well, I still feel nervousness after taking my Paxil. I'm in week 6. They say what, 6-8 weeks? Will the nervousness "just go away like that?" or am I doomed, lol... :( I am wondering....should I switch to Paxil CR? I wonder if that would help any?
Avatar n tn I have discontinued Paxil 25 mg CR for 12 days now for family planning purposes. I was taking it for generalized anxiety disorder. I am under the care of my phychiatrist and OB Gyn. He suggested I taper off, but I chose the cold turkey route. I have done my research on the internet on withdrawl effects and I have just about experienced them all. From hot/ cold nightsweats, fatigue, diarrea, flu-like symptoms, nausea, dizziness, headaches, and shakiness.
Avatar m tn I am a 23 year old male who has had Anxiety for seven years and have been on Paxil CR 25 mg (2x daily) for that duration of time. In January everything was going well for me, even well enough to hit the gym and such. I have always heard that Paxil was a drug that no one should be on so I talked to my doctor about switching. He decided that Sertraline may work for me. He had me stop Paxil for two days and then begin taking Setraline 25 mg for two days and then upping it to 50 mg.
