Paxil withdrawal symptoms patients

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil withdrawal symptoms patients

paxil

Avatar f tn Paxil is a med that should be stopped very slowly, even if you are starting a new med. It could take several weeks for the Wellbutrin to be working fully, and in the meantime, it does sound like you are having withdrawal symptoms from the Paxil. At this point, I don't think your doctor would have you go back on the Paxil since it has been almost a week off it, but I would give them a call just in case. Paxil can be nasty to come off of.
Avatar f tn After having said all that, my personal observation is that the withdrawal symptoms to Paxil mentioned by others in response to jakecat's post may just be amplified side effects from the Paxil. I say this because many of the withdrawal syptoms mentioned here, I have experienced as minor side effects to my Paxil use. I once missed two days of my meds (at 20mg) and at exactly 48 hours off my dose,I experienced "hot flush-like sweats" and I became quite irritable.
Avatar f tn I've been on Paxil for approximately seven years, starting at 60mg and tapering down to 30mg as of two years ago. I'm still on that dose. I've experienced the withdrawal symptoms before, when I've forgotten to take my medicine, as well as when I've been in the process of decreasing my dose, but lately, I've been feeling the withdrawal symptoms when I have been taking my medicine regularly.
1386506 tn?1279613689 Two questions: are you still on it, which it seems you are since you say you're still weaning off, and are these symptoms new to you or are they the original symptoms that led to go on Paxil in the first place? Don't be frightened, but Paxil is probably the most problematic med to quit taking, with snris running second.
Avatar f tn My doctor recently switched me from Paxil to Wellbutrin due to the decreased sex drive of Paxil. Otherwise Paxil was working well for me. Anyway, my issue is that it was a direct switch, no weaning off of Paxil and I think I'm having the withdrawal. I thought the Wellbutrin would just sort of take over, but I don't think that is the case. I didn't think to ask my doc, and the soonest I can get back to see him is Monday. It's been 7 days w/o Paxil and 6 with Wellbutrin.
Avatar m tn My doc stated that I could switch over to Lexapro from Paxil so I took both for 2 weeks then dropped Paxil all together. Could I still be feeling the affects of Paxil withdrawal? I felt good after 2 weeks and even tried to come down on my Klonopin a couple of days after my paxil ended. Mistake! Just wanting to know if anybody had the same issues and how long do I need to plan on suffering? This is getting old and I'm ready to feel like my old self again.
Avatar n tn , oh so real! Any doctor that says paxil has no withdrawal symptoms just has no clue what they are talking about! Paxil is not a good drug! My doctor gave me a prescription for Effexor, because I told her I didn't want to be on paxil anymore, because it was a horrible drug. I went home and searched Effexor and apparently that is another drug from hell, so I didn't even start the drug at all! I am not on any drugs at all now!
Avatar f tn That sounds like a low (starting) dose and a month is relatively short. It is normal though to have some withdrawal, mainly 'rebound' type symptoms. Which are symptoms that were present before taking the medication (usually depression and anxiety) which feel exaggerated for a time after discontinuation. Also, 'brain zaps' or disturbances in feelings when you move your eyes looking around are also possible (very similiar to 'eye fatigue' if you have been on a long drive).
Avatar m tn t know because when you start a new med while tapering off of your former drug, you are are on two drugs at the same time and also possibly undergoing withdrawal symptoms. Paxil can take a long time to safely taper off of. The minimum recommended taper, and this means by researchers, not what psychiatrists actually do, is 6 weeks.
Avatar f tn By essentially taking two drugs at once you eliminated the possibility of knowing which symptoms are withdrawal and which are from the new drug. Your taper off Paxil was way too quick for that drug, and a lot of your symptoms sound more like withdrawal symptoms than side effects of Wellbutrin. But also, wellbutrin is very stimulating and not usually used for anxiety for that reason.
Avatar m tn I take the pill at night, no set time just once a day at night, and I’ve read that Paxil withdrawal symptoms can start hours after a missed dose, but would this effect me having only been on it Since mid December? I’ve never missed a dose but I don’t take them at the same time everyday, would it even be embedded in my system enough for it to cause withdrawals if I missed a dose by a couple hours?
Avatar n tn The Zoloft, as you discovered, doesn't get rid of Paxil withdrawal, so you have no idea what's causing this -- the Paxil or the Zoloft. That's the downside of moving immediately from one med to another without completing a nice slow taper from the one first. Especially Paxil, which is known to have a strong withdrawal. If the Zoloft proves problematic, taper it down slowly; don't do this again.
Avatar n tn What are your symptoms now? Usually withdrawal canl include nausea, anxiety, headaches, brain zaps, trouble sleeping and other possible symptoms.
Avatar n tn I have been on Paxil CR for 2 years now, and my highest dosage was 37.5 mg about 5 or 6 months ago. Over the past 6 months I have SLOWLY been reducing my dosage as I feel Paxil CR has not been the right drug for me. I would reduce the dosage about every month and a half. About 1.5 months ago, I reduced my dosage from 12.5 mg to 6 mg. Around this time, I started having EXTREME fatigue and chronic, unbearable nausea. I have had a colonoscopy and endoscopy but both were completely normal.
Avatar f tn Also, what are the withdrawal symptoms from xanax withdrawl?? And is there any other advice as to things that could help with this. I know I can't avoid WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS forever. I'm just now realizing they are inevitable - still trying to make them as easy as possible so I can keep working, going to school, acting and looking like a normal person, etc - you know what I mean. Hiding the truth from the ones who don't need to know...if I can. Advice is appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have been through withdrawal from another antidepressant (not Paxil, but in the same class of drugs) and so has my mother. Yes, it can take years, in some cases -- especially if you were on the Paxil for years before starting the taper. One rule of thumb is that the withdrawal will take approximately one month for every year that you were on an antidepressant. But everyone is an individual. The process takes as long as it takes for you, and however long it takes is okay.
Avatar m tn m way worse than I ever was before I went on the Paxil. As I said to the doctor above, these symptoms occurred quickly after quitting Paxil, you seem to think they've slowly developed over three years. My psychiatrist is doing everything he can to avoid facing that he's the cause of all this by not knowing the protocols for bad Paxil withdrawal.
Avatar n tn I am a 20 year old, 5'2", 115lb. female and for the past year or so I've been on Paxil, but my entire experience with Paxil is that it makes me nauseous and shake no matter how long I take it for. My body can't seem to get over the side-effects, so for a while I was only taking the Paxil every three to four days (they were extended-release pills) and I seemed to be alright. But for the past few weeks I decided to try to get off Paxil completely.
1422233 tn?1282701102 Prozac is not better for anxiety than other AD, it depends on you. I think what the doctor is trying to do is try Prozac because it's not a substrate of Pgp (P-glycoprotein, involved in the bioavailability of drugs) (unlike Paxil), so switching from Paxil to Prozac may be beneficial for nonresponders or when the medication is not therapeutic anymore. Paxil is an extremely potent SSRI, so it's one of the medications that can have severe withdrawal symptoms when discontinued.
Avatar m tn Wondering if anyone has dealt with long term paxil withdrawal symptoms. Came off of paxil - tapered down to 10mg from 40 mg before stopping. This was the plan from the doc, and I didn't realize at the time what a beast paxil can be and that sometimes you can taper down with the liquid version super slowly. Also took 20mg prozac as a bridge to help with withdrawal.
Avatar f tn She says Zoloft withdrawal is not a problem and this taper is fine. I told her I have read complaints of Zoloft withdrawal and she said her senior citizen patients don't even have a problem with it. I know it does cause problems for some people and it alarms me that she doesn't. The only ones she says are a problem stopping are effexor and Paxil. I am pretty much going to have to follow this schedule because she only prescribed me enough for 2 weeks. Any advice is appreciated.
Avatar n tn They usually start right away within a day or two but some people do not have withdrawal symptoms at all and you may be one of the lucky ones. If you do have symptoms you might consider a slower withdrawal over a three-week period before you stop.
Avatar f tn that I have finally found a site that actually deals with paxil and the ill effects of withdrawal. I have been on paxil on and off for 30 years after being diagnosed with a chemical imbalance at 17. I am or at least was feeling well and I wanted to try discontinuing paxil to detoxify my body. I did do it gradually which I would advise everyone however even after being off of the pills completely for 3 weeks I still suffer from a sense of hightened response to noise or movement.
Avatar f tn I haven't taken Cymbalta or Paxil, so I can't give a personal withdrawal experience for those specific drugs. However, I have taken other SSRIs and SNRIs, and while the withdrawal effects can be really unsettling and uncomfortable, they do decrease in severity and eventually go away with time. I wonder whether the tremors are a side effect from starting Paxil, or a withdrawal symptom from weaning off the Cymbalta, or both?
