Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis diet support

Avatar n tn My 7 year old champion 4-H obedience/Showmanship female schnauzer was recently and unexpectedly diagnosed with pancreatitis. Her Lipase levels reflected 6000. Three days later her levels dropped to 5000, by the 5th day they jumped to almost 8000. After a long talk with the Vet, I elected to bring her home if she was able to hold food down. Despite the high lipase level, the dog was perkier and feeling better, we were risking her survival, but it was chance it or euthanize the dog.
Avatar f tn Your Triglycerides are higher then average and indicate to much fat in your diet. Again, that can also be managed along with a healthier diet. Heart Palpitations can have a variety of reasons. Sometimes anxiety and stress can play a part. Certain meds and even Caffiene can raise your heart rate. As Lynn stated, seeing a trusted Dr would be your next step to rule out disease.
Avatar n tn We all have Pancreatitis is some form and severity. We help each other and support one another. Click on community at the top of the page and then new discussion board. You will find alot of useful info there.
254215 tn?1195096984 We waited for over 3 weeks when our dog had panc, and finally had to euthanize him because he was just not getting any better. Chronic pancreatitis can be managed to a certain extent with diet. My aunt had a mini schnauzer (the breed is notorious for chronic panc) who lived to be 19 - most of those years with chronic pancreatitis, and occasional hospital stays for acute attacks. I doubt the paw-dragging is in any way related to the pancreatitis.
Avatar n tn A lot. Saturday morning I called the vet and they wanted to see her right away for fear of pancreatitis. They drew some blood, gave her some IV antibiotics, and some fluids, though she was not dehydrated. They also gave me some prescription pills to give her at home along with some prescription dog food that we are to feed her a teaspoonfull at a time, a couple times per day.
1264088 tn?1279484422 CP is most often caused from drinking but other things can cause it such as Hereditary CP Cystic Fibrosis Chronic blockage of the pancreatic duct Injury Hyperlipidemia Hyperparathyroidism The enzymes help with the digestion of fat. They can help the pain in a few people but others they do not help. It is best if you stick with a very very low fat diet. You can also have bouts of acute CP so anytime you feel worse I would go to ER.
Avatar n tn I have been researching and pancreatitis seems to fit many of my factors but the docs don't take me seriously. I am not a drinker, only 30 years old and very physically fit. Also I just can't keep weight on. Can anyone help me please???
Avatar n tn Second, has anyone on here that has been diagnosed with any form of Pancreatitis taken any diet suppliments? I have Idiopathic Severe Chronic Pancreatitis. I want to lose some weight and excersizing alone is not doing it due to the meds I take.
902019 tn?1249865014 I was diagnosed 2 years ago with AIP, have a 25 year history of autoimmune disorders (eosinophilic vasculitis, mild Sjogren's). Usually have done well with prednisone for the various flare-ups but with AIP, still recurring symptoms and the elevated IgG4 periodically. Next step may be Imuran. Is there anyone out there who has had good results with Imuran for autoimmune pancreatitis?
Avatar f tn Her head is also tremulous.I am open to any advise or emotional support.
793908 tn?1294708709 My 10 yr old mini Poodle Julie was now diagnosed with a heart murmur when she went to ER Vet again.. for another Pancreatitis attack..which is better now. My Vet told me that the Trilostane (22.5 mg) is NOT working for her Cushings disease. Yet, 2 months ago her numbers came way down to normal. He now wants her on LYSODREN. I am scared to death of that drug. I read too much negative reports about it. Thats why I put her on Trilostane.

Avatar f tn After two days i was told last night her kidney is at 7, i cant remember what her BUN was or any other number because at that point i was told she now has pancreatitis and her liver is going bad as well. They are releasing her today with me and told me to take her home, make her comfortable at home and she can either pass on her own or i can bring her in after a few days to be put down. I am having a hard time with this whole thing and felt it came on quickly.
Avatar f tn Wouldn't even drink milk, her favorite. Last Tuesday vet said she has pancreatitis from her bloodwork, took her off Prednisone for allergies (he said was one of causes), put her on Hill's I.D. diet, no human snacks, gave her shot of nausea medicine. Right away she ate her dinner, and continued to eat better and better, got well and stayed that way several days.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, My 10 yr old dachshund has just had a second bout of pancreatitis a week ago. His first one was in 2011. His. Liver and pancreas are both enlarged and look inflammed. Avatar f tn No one disagrees that you can lose on a 500 cal diet with ow without HCG, but you have to look at the whole picture. How do you feel on the diet? Can you stick with the diet? Can you maintain your weight afterwards? 3 months ago, before I heard about HCG I attempted a 500 Calorie diet to reduce the affects of RA(Rhuematoid Arthritis). Actually I wanted to FAST because having been under a 14 day medically supervised fast (water only) 3 years ago, I knew what miraculous results I got.
Avatar n tn aI'm posting this under general gastroenterology instead of Pancreatitis because I don't want something to get missed because of a myopic approach. In 1994, when I was 34 yrs old, I was diagnosed at Duke University Med. with pancreatitis. Pancreatitic and liver enzymes were all above 3000's. Since then I have fought chronic pancreatitis on an almost daily basis. It was considered unknown causes. I don't smoke or drink alcohol or take illicit drugs.
Avatar f tn Seems I can't find a list of support groups for chronic pancreatitis online. I mean active ones. I keep searching does anybody have any lists? I'm going to ask my question anyways. Seems I have a stone stuck in my curly q pancreatic duct (called an alpha loop?!?). Not sure how it got there. I've been going literally years between acute flare ups. Eating everything and anything. I switched to a low fat/higher carb diet. But, now when I eat ANY amount of fried food it hurts my back!?!?!

793908 tn?1294708709 most Pancreatitis attacks are brought on by giving the dog HUMAN foods. I was alot better with her diet, but I did give her starches which I was told is okay. Than everyone else let her taste this n that & it all built up in her Pancreas..over the course of 6 weeks (since her last attack)..called built up in her...which my poor baby couldn't digest...& had another attack. Fatty foods cause attacks. I am given strict rules to give her nothing but Hills I/P or I/D...
Avatar n tn findings would be consistent with acalculous cholecystitis/gallbladder dyskinesisi, findings do not support sphincter of oddi dysfunction. diagnosed with h.pylori, gastritis, deodenitis and erosions. would these be due to the gallbladder not functioning wel causing the h.pylori bacteria to spread and do more damage? i had an ultrasound of the gallbladder, bilary duct, pancreas they were fine.
Avatar n tn thank you very much, rs _____________ Dear rs, As you realize from reading many of the other e-mails, abdominal pain is a difficult diagnostic problem. Chronuic pancreatitis should have objective findings that will support the diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I probably should add that I am still phasing in the Hill's K/D diet and am 1/3 Hills and 2/3 homemade low fat kidney diet. He has not shown any symptoms of pancreatitis other than the PSL being in the low 700's. Do you think I should continue phasing in the Hills K/D?
1409228 tn?1282347063 about two weeks ago I could feel the pain in my stomach that felt like my pancreas flared up. I have had acute pancreatitis 2 times before so I know the feeling. I had pain in my upper abdomen, oily stool, dizzy, nausau and no appetitie. So i went to the ER did the tests everything was normal so they said they think is is a ulcer and scheduled me with a specialist. The pain was so bad I went back in to the ER where they ran a cat scan and ultra sound and blood test.
20820562 tn?1524881446 The pancreatitis is perhaps the main concern. Do you feed a high fat diet? That is known to inflame bouts of pancreatitis, so reducing the fat content of meals is a good plan.
Avatar n tn 8 percent at 10 years and 4 percent at 20 years, independent of the type of pancreatitis in one study. I have not touched upon autoimmune pancreatitis and the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pancreatitis. I hope that you can understand that I am limited in the amount of time I spend on each question in this forum. Please feel free to ask these points again at the next opportunity, or you can utilize my fee-based medical information service.
Avatar n tn two months ago i started to have ruq pain with nausea i went to the ER and they did the usual blood test and CT scan they told me i had pancreatitis to go on a pure liquid diet and the pain will go away in a few days. about a week later i ended back in the ER for the same problem they also did the CT scan and found that i did not have pancreatitis if i did i would be laying in a hospital room.
936335 tn?1246415831 Your symptoms could be SO many things including microscopic sludge/stones in the common bile duct, gallbladder problems, Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction, Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth, acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, autoimmune pancreatitis, mininal change chronic pancreatitis, etc., etc., etc. Pancreatic and ductal pain is among the most horrendous pain there is. If you cannot manage your pain, talk to your primary care physician and ask for some medication!
