pacemaker

Avatar f tn I'm having what the doctor referred to as a "generator repair" on my pacemaker next Tuesday. How long does this usually take? What other complications might be found?
696415 tn?1228229959 s electrical activity, it is sometimes called the primary pacemaker, the natural pacemaker. If this is what was damaged during your ASD repair, than a pacmaker would be a decent option to keep your heart rate from becoming bradycardic. Unfortunately, there are no medications to increase your rate. I imagine that you are always feeling fatigued from such a low HR. Hainvg the pacemaker implanted would definitely help you feel more energetic.
Avatar f tn I had a mitral valve repair in 2005. One of the leads of the external pacemaker that was used in the hospital could not be removed. I have read that it is protocol to not force a lead out if it cannot be taken out with a slow steady forse. In any case, I would like to know if I am allowed to have an MRI if I ever need one with a lead still attached to my heart even though I do not have a pacemaker.
Avatar n tn My wife had a mitral vakve repair 3 years ago as well as a maze to correct AF; heartbeat was in teh upper 90's so she then had a cardioversion to regularise heartbeat and this worked fine, bringing it down to the mid-60's. Earlier this year her specialist replaced her calcium channel blocker with an ARB. Shortly afterwards she experienced a heart attack; a subsequent ECG indicated a Taku-tsubo syndrome as well as Troponin positivity.
Avatar f tn My mother had her pacemaker replaced in March 09 She went for a pacemaker check today. She has had arrhytmias the past several months so she has an appt next week to see her doc. What causes arrhytmias even when you have a pacemaker. Is this normal? Pacemakers are supposed to treat this, right?
Avatar n tn This seems odd to me, slow heart rate so exercise and if you pass out then we will talk about a pacemaker. I just had hernia repair surgery and have not been able to exercise. Currently the tired feeling is pretty bad and my energy level is horrible. My General Doc was suprised by his conclusion. Thoughts on my condition, any similar experiences? Should I seek another opinion on whether a pacemaker should be implanted?
Avatar n tn There is some concern with implanted devices such as pacemaker, etc. causing failure of the device. Foreign bodies are also potential risks, and safety aspects need to be considered on an individual basis. Interaction of the magnetic and radio frequency fields with such objects can lead to trauma due to movement of the object in the magnetic field, thermal injury from radio-frequency induction heating of the object. If there were a problem, it would be due to induction heating.
Avatar f tn I went into cardiac arrest in 2002, had a pacemaker, defibrillator put in then had open heart surgery to repair my valve. I was wondering what the long term effects of sotalol are?
Avatar f tn The tests that can demonstrate these other findings include routine ECG and 24-hour Holter monitoring, with consideration of exercise stress testing when she is old enough. Be aware, though, that placement of a pacemaker depends not on the timing of her heart valve repair, but on her heart and how she is doing. If you are not getting the answers that you feel that you should from your cardiologist, you can certainly obtain a second opinion.
Avatar n tn I received excellent surgical care, and am one of the first case studies for repair of the mitral valve with pericardium grafting, which I remained asymptomatic for past 34 years. I had occasional tachycardia buy just very brief. Last year, I experienced tachycardia that I was un able to control and was becoming more frequent. My cardiologist diagnosed me with AVNRT. I was told that this was good news and 95% percent curative. I went through an EP/CA last year in the December time frame.
723800 tn?1230887234 Hi, I had my first pacemaker when I was 19 due to being born with a congential heart block, so I was given dual wire pacemaker, everything seemed to be working well as far my cardiologist was concerned when they discovered that 1 of the wires was'nt working properly, although I was not having any side affects to this but because of the size of the pacemaker to which they inserted I did recieve quite a few episodes of chest pains.

572651 tn?1530999357 DJ is in a serious medical crisis and currently in ICU. She has been there since Tuesday and I have been waiting to know more before telling you this news. You probably remember that she recently had her morphine pump exchanged for a different unit. Unknown to the surgeon, she has an extensive abdominal and bladder infection.
Avatar m tn He put in a biventricular pacemaker about 15 months ago when my EF was 24%.My doctor says I am on the strongest meds he can give me. My last visit was 4 days ago and my EF had dropped to 19%... Doctor said there wasn't anything else he could do. Really?? Needless to say, it has left me frightened and very concerned. 572651 tn?1530999357 Cat, indeed! Poor DJ has been through so much! I'm glad she called you, and, DJ, if you're lurking, I send lots of love and hugs, and wishes for speedy recovery.
Avatar m tn My wife had an op. for a mitral valve repair and AF (maze) some ten weeks ago. After the op. she was put on amiodarone, digoxin and furosemide. While the MVR appeared successful the maze did not kick in, experiencing irregular heartbeats cica 90 p.m. She then had cardioversion a few days ago; her heart rhythm appears to have regularised but her pulse rate has dropped to 42-46 p.m. and she has lost a lot ef energy.
Avatar f tn Her 1st OHS was to repair the ASD, VSD, and IAA. Her second OHS was to relieve some of the aortic and sub-aortic stenosis, and then a 3rd to implant a pacemaker due to surgical complications from #2. In "routine" cardiology follow-ups, a sinus of Valsalva aneurysm was found and subsequently monitored. During another follow up appt, they thought the aneurysm was growing. So, she was sent for a CT to get measurements.
572651 tn?1530999357 Hey everyone - here's the news. DJ and her daughter Lori are on a United flight out of LAX Saturday morning, 10:30ish. It is a direct flight to PA, so no layovers. Please keep a positive thought, say a prayer, spin around three times and spit - whatever it is you do! LOL - that they have a safe journey and encounter kind, compassionate workers at LAX, in the security line, on the flight and arrive intact and in good spirits in Pennsylvania.

572651 tn?1530999357 DJ continues to be a guest of the hospital in Arcadia. They removed the intrathecal morphine pump last week. The spot where the lines went into her spine continue to leak spinal fluid, so they are going to do a blood patch on Monday. Here's hoping it helps. They have not yet found a way to handle her pain that she gets from the extreme spasms she experiences, and she is relying on the oral morphine to take the edge off. The movers come Monday morning for her household goods.
572651 tn?1530999357 Happy, happy birthday DJ!!! I hope it is a wonderful party! Thanks for letting us know, Lulu.
