Avatar m tn There is still some work on the liver regardless to process opioids but Fentanyl, Dilaudid (hydromorphone), and Opana (oxymorphone) put less strain on the liver. Please keep us updated on how you are feeling and the status of your transplant. I wish you all the best!
687729 tn?1397992727 Hey! Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the 5 (!) back surgeries and that you're suffering. You're on some tricky meds there! The first thing I can tell you right off the bat is that no form of Kratom is going to help you w/ breakthrough pain unless you're opiate naive. It also won't be effective as a detox measure while Oxymorphone or Dilaudid is in your system.
Avatar f tn I agree that your pharmacist has all the information that you need regarding your new prescription for the dilaudid. Dilaudid is hydromorphone. Opana is oxymorphone. Dilaudid is slightly weaker than the Opana so you may notice that you need more medication to achieve the same amount of pain relief. I would also contact your doctor and explain to him what happened and get it fixed. I hope the short acting medications are helpful for your pain with less side effects.
Avatar f tn I have been taking ms contin and oxymorphone (opana) for break through for YEARS. Frankly I'm concerned with the dosage of ma contin my pm doc has me on. I am not getting the pain relief I used to and even ibuprophen works better at times. I have been curious about Dilaudid or hydromorphone because my mother takes it but am too afraid to ask my doc.
Avatar m tn Opana worked well for me... But I have never had a med that works as long as it is supposed to! Have you ever tried Exalgo? It is hydromorphone instead of oxymorphone. I've done both but I'm on MS Contin for my extended release right now, it works well. Low dose ER meds only help to take the edge off so that the instant release works a little better. Maybe you should try a new IR like Roxie's, nucynta, or dilaudid.
Avatar f tn hydromorphone, however (dilaudid) is fairly short-acting and i would not consider it a substitute for methadone, which has a significantly longer half-life...you may want to consider switching to something like MS Contin or OxyContin (two long acting meds) and continue with your roxicodone for breakthrough...but again, all of these are risky if you combine them with a muscle relaxer/anti-anxiety like Xanax....only you and your doctor can determine if you can safely combine them.
981443 tn?1250115802 Endo has been the major distributor of oxymorphone throughout the world and currently markets oxymorphone in the United States and elsewhere as Opana and Opana ER. Opana is available as 5 mg and 10 mg tablets; Opana ER, an extended-release form of oxymorphone, is available as tablets in strengths of 5 mg, 7½ mg, 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, and 40 mg.
757827 tn?1299016483 Like you, I found Hydromorphone very easy to ween off. I count myself lucky that the w/d's were as mild as they were, because I've heard nightmare stories about w/d's from hydromorphone & oxymorphone (Dilaudid 8mg & Opana 10mg IR). Both were my drugs-of-choice and I obtained them, in large quantities, from a pain-management doctor. Been clean of them for almost 18 months now, and not looking back, but in hindsight, the w/d's were relatively mild.
Avatar f tn Your sister might need a stronger short acting pain medication to compliment the fentanyl patch such as liquid morphine (what Dee mentioned) or liquid oxycodone. There is also short acting dilaudid (hydromorphone) or opana (oxymorphone) - oxymorphone is stronger than hydromorphone. The fentanyl patch strengths go up to 100 mcg/hr and the prescription leaflet shows dosing up to 300 mcg/hr so there is a lot of wiggle room with the fentanyl patches to hopefully give her some relief.
Avatar m tn OPANA IS A VERY VERY STRONG PAIN KILLER. I IS MUCH STRONGER THAN IT'S COUSIN DILAUDID. THE GENERIC NAME FOR DILAUDID IS HYDROMORPHONE. THE GENERIC NAME FOR OPANA IS OXYMOPHONE. OXYMORPHONE IS GIVEN ORALLY IN EITHER ER (EXTENDED RELEASE), OR IR (IMMEDIATE RELEASE) IT IS VERY HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. MOST ABUSERS CRUSH AND SNORT IT LIKE OC USERS. SOME ALSO INJECT IT. I WAS AN ADDICT FOR EIGHT YEARS. AND A FUNCTIONING ONE AT THAT.
Avatar f tn Hello and Welcome to our Pain Management Forum. I am very sorry to hear that you had a false urine screen. Unfortunately it happens more often than one might think. There are multiple reasons your test returned inaccurate. Studies prove that the inaccuracy rate is high and usually related to human error. Much has to do with the type of test that is done. Clinics tend to use the least expensive tests that are not as accurate. A blood draw is a much better screening tool.
Avatar n tn Oxycodone is about half as strong as Oxymorphone per mg. So you were talking 60mg of Oxycontin (Oxycodone) and going by a Opioid (Narcotic) analgesic converter you would need 30mg of Opana (Oxymorphone) to get the same pain releif and most likley the same to cover the withdrawl. You are now taking 10mg of Opana where 30mgs is what the converter says you need. You need to talk to your Dr. about dosage and don't take more than your Dr wrote the Opana for until he or she OKs it.
1386425 tn?1280119158 my husband is taking hydrocodone, somas, and dilaudid injections...i know hes doing wayyy too much i also kno hes got a high tolerance...he takes the somas cause it helps him sleep..but im looking at him all the time hes sleepy shortly after injecting the dilaudid, n he uses about 3 pills for one shot. then takes about 6 hydros in 24 and 4-6 somas..this has been going on for almost a month were hes mixing all these meds....now heres the kicker...
648944 tn?1241469694 t work well for me. Opana is a brand name for Oxymorphone like Vicodin or Lortab is for hydrocodone. Of course there is acetaminophen in the Vicodin & Lortab along with the hydrocodone. Oxymorphone is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers. It is similar to morphine. Oxymorphone is used to treat moderate to severe pain. The extended-release form of this medication is for around-the-clock treatment of pain.
Avatar f tn I'm taking Opana ER 10 mg and it's not on the list of approved drugs for my new RX plan. Fentanyl patches weren't effective. What's a good substitute? oxymorphone is not listed but hydromorphone is.
Avatar f tn 2 codeine, morphine, hydrocodone (e.g., Vicodin), hydromorphone (e.g., Dilaudid), oxycodone (e.g., Percodan) and oxymorphone (e.g.
Avatar m tn I dont see much about it in these posts but I have been taking oxymorphone(OPANA) for FBS.I have been addicted to Meth cocaine and alcohol in the past but have been free from those chains for 10 years. My disease has resurfaced with this Opana though.I have cut my intake from 20 mg a day to 10 mg a day for the past three days.I have been blessed to avoid the terrible sickness of opiate withdrawl that I went through last year with this **** when I went CT off of it.
Avatar n tn With a nod toward the concerns listed in the earlier posts, the closest thing to oxycodone available is oxymorphone, which is sold as Opana and Opana ER. It is exactly twice the potency of oxycodone; I actually prefer it for treatment of pain in the cases that an opiate is required because the ER formulation, at least in my experience, seems to be a 'true 12 hour med' whereas patients sometimes come up short on oxycontin when it is dosed twice per day.
569676 tn?1315641158 My history includes IV morphine, Fentanyl, demerol, and Oxymorphone.... I was in a methadone program and doing great until I started abusing that. I was on Mdone for 5 years with a maximum prescribed dose of 600 mgs daily. I started suboxone on March 25th, 2008 And it was a godsend! I was inducted at 16mgs daily and managed with the help of therapy and my doc to get down to 1mg daily as of three weeks ago.
