Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin er

oxycontin

Avatar f tn it is 4 times more powerful than oxycontin, so 20mg of opana equals 80mg of oxycontin. oxycontin is considered equal to or more poweful than heroin my friend did a full 40mg of opana because he was dumb and did oxys but never knew how strong opana was, i found him lifeless, foaming at the mouth, eyes rolled back, completely white, blue lips. the paramedics got there and he was dead, no heartbeat not breathing, but they were able to revive him with naloxone.
Avatar m tn when i could not find oxycontin i would take opana er 40mg. opana(oxymorphone) is about twice as potent as oxycodone. they are rather new i believe they came out in 2002?
1264863 tn?1391118193 Anyone taken Opana ER? My doctor wants to switch me from Oxy to Opana ER and I am very nervous about it. Any advice is helpful.
1445110 tn?1388209711 I recently was prescribed Opana ER was on methadone for two months and Norco for breakthrough pain. I had trouble tolerating the methadone. It made me feel horrible, couldnt function and didnt really help my back and hip pain. I am chicken to take the Opana. I need to get started on it and try it but I am so afraid of stronger pain meds. Anyone familiar with it and did it help with the pain without sedating you too much?
Avatar m tn , you may find that Oxycontin is more effective regardless of the fact that the strength of Oxycontin is lower than the strength of Opana Er. I have never tried Oxycontin; however, my physician said that we would try it if the Opana ER isn't effective. I have found Opana ER to be very effective in the management of my pain. I still have pain that breaks through during the day but I have a lot more control of my pain throughout the day than I did when I was on MS Contin.
Avatar f tn I'm a multiple sclerosis patient (for the last 8 years) and I have had every single pain med known to man, in that time... All boils down to this - for the last six or so years, I have been on either OxyContin 40mg ER or Opana 40mg ER - every 12 hours & never at the same time; I complained the other day that the Opana wasn't doing its job right (it wasn't truly "bad" - I was just ready to try a different opiate due to tolerance of the OxyContin & the Opana...
Avatar m tn By the way, neither oxycodone 10/325 or morphine sulfate 15mg are extended relief or ER medications. OxyContin or MSContin are both 12 hour, extended relief formulations of oxycodone and ms, respectively. Perhaps you mean that you're using 15mg MSContin twice a day, with the Percocet 10/325 as needed for breakthrough pain? If you are unclear, read the labels. If you are still confused, ask your doctor.
Avatar m tn you can google it...oxycontin er and half life.....
Avatar m tn I HAVE BEEN ON OXYCONTIN FOR 4 YEARS AT A PRETTY HIGH DOSE... MY DOCTOR WAS STOPPED FROM GIVING PAIN MED'S.. i GUESS HE WAS SELLING THEM OON THE INTERNET ALSO... NOW I AM LEFT ON A BAD FIX.. I HAVE NO MORE MED'S LEFT. CAN NOT FIND A DR. TO TAKE CARE OF ME... AND AM IN DESPRITE NEED' FOR OXYCONTIN... CAN ANYONE HELP ME !!!!!!
1855076 tn?1337115303 He switched me off the Opana ER to OxyContin. Since then my blood pressure has come down a bit and my pain is better, except for the past two days when it's been unbearable. I've been taking Nortriptyline for about a month and I do think that has helped my nerve pain. I am lucking with my primary care doctor. She is excellent.
Avatar n tn I dont see how it could show up different, since the active drug in both oxycodone and oxycontin is the same drug, oxycodone. Oxycontin has been formulated where part of the drug is released as soon as you take it and the rest is made do dissolve more slowly. Thats why your not supposed to chew or break the tablet. It's like taking morphine IR or morphine ER. They will both show up as morphine.
1264863 tn?1391118193 Oh my mistake. I tapered off my daytime dose of OxyContin and that is what put me in the ER last week. I still take a night time dose, they told me not to mess with the night time dose at first to get my sleep. So my next step is to taper off the Night time Oxycontin. THEN, I will be completely free of the OxyContin. But this time instead of putting Oxycodone in place we are going to go to 20mg then 10mg over night dose until I don't need it anymore. Should be a gentle taper this time.
725248 tn?1316162245 Opana is a nice step up from Oxycontin. It is 10x stronger than Oxycontin. If you were to take a 40mg tab of Opana, it would be like taking 60-80 mg of Oxycontin. If your Pain Management Doc recommends it over the Oxycontin then I would suggest trying it. I feel that you'll get better pain relief from it.
Avatar f tn I have been weaning myself odd oxycontin 2)30 daily er. I am done to half my dose in one month. There was some times of uncomfortableness..Wd here and there, but I handled it okay. Now al of a sudden, I am worse..pain in body very high and tummy cramps/gas. I haven't gone down on the weaning for 10 days...I always wait until body adjust to new reduction of dose. But now I am worse? what ids happening? DID it catch up with me after a month?
Avatar m tn All of a sudden my insurance has switched to a managed care plan, which basically means more bureaucrats and less care/more problems. I've been on the same dosage of OxyContin (30mg) for a year combined with roxicodone (15mg) for breakthrough pain. For the OxyContin I've always needed a Prior Authorization.
Avatar m tn My dr has asked me to think about changing from oxycodone 10/325 5xdaily (percocet) to oxycontin. I've done the research on oxycontin as requested and can see that they most likely are worrying about the dose of tylenol for so long. I do want to decrease pain meds and am worried about addiction. This percocet rx has been ongoing for at least 3-4 years on an increasing dose basis.
Avatar f tn Now on oxycontin and vicotin 10/325 ..i went cold turkey one week ago. How long do these awful withdrawals last.
4730743 tn?1358469813 2 months, and he currently has me on Verapamil ER 180 MG X1 daily, Nortriptyline 10 MG X1 @ bedtime, also Oxycodone/Acetaminophen 5/325 4X a day for break thru pain, as well as Oxycontin 10 mg ER 2X a day. I have taken all of these meds for the last month, with little sucess of relief. Unfort. I have had to take both of my pain medications everyday the last month. My question is about tolerance.
Avatar n tn Approximately one year ago she was prescribed Oxycontin (180 mg per day) for relief from pain of fibromyalgia, DDD and carpal tunnel. Her doctor stopped prescribing about 7-8 months ago and she has been getting it from a friend. She is tired of the addiction and seems determined to kick it. I want to help her succeed but need some advice.
Avatar f tn Now, we\re told her kidneys are starting to shut down. We know she was given too much oxycotin as we heard one of the doctors in the ER mention the amount she was given. I'm wondering if all that oxycotin could have had this effect on her kidneys all of a sudden starting to shut down. Or does anyone know where I could out the answer?
Avatar n tn When I convert your current dose of MS Contin into Oxycontin equivalent, you are taking 60 mg less of Oxycontin through the MS Contin. To get dosing equivalent to 120 mg of Oxycontin through administration of MS Contin, you should have been prescribed 180 mg of MS Contin based purely on the pharmacological conversion factor between Oxycontin and MS Contin as Oxycontin is 1.5 times stronger than MS Contin.
1264863 tn?1391118193 I started Jan 9th and I was taking 60mg of OxyContin. This week if my first week off and I feel better than ever. I am clear, stopped forgetting things, I'm happy! And best of all I have LESS pain! I am still taking some Oxycondone for pain when needed but that is it. Anyone who is thinking of tapering, DO IT! You won't regret it!
Avatar f tn I would make sure that this last prescription wasn't accidentally filled with the instant release and not the ER version... And I think you blended two med names with Oxycontin MS...Oxycontin is a med all by itself..It is Oxycodone in Continuous formula...hence the "contin"....MS usually stands for Morphine Sulfate and comes in both IR (immediate release) or ER (extended release formulas)... If it is a 12 hour version...then usually most Drs. are ok with dosing it every 8 hours..
1331804 tn?1336867358 My question is has anyone switched from Morphine Sulfate ER to the newly formulated Oxycontin OP? If yes, could you tell me if you experienced better pain relief after switching? Reason I am asking: I had a doctors appointment today to say goodbye to my PCP that has been treating my chronic pain for over 5 years now. My employer is no longer offering the only insurance he accepts so I am forced to a different doctor via a different insurance provider.
774736 tn?1311331385 Is it possible that marijuana and oxycontin abuse could have caused this? I havent touched oxycontin in over six months, four months before I had my first anxiety attack...I stopped smoking marijuana two months ago and after all the ER visits and everything checking out fine(heart and lungs), I still have episodes of panic but now Ive been feeling like im in a dream...I cant stop thinking about what could have caused this mess...
Avatar m tn I realize I am just at the very beginning of this process, however, I am scared as to what I am going to experience. I was advised to go to the ER if necessary; however, I have never been to the ER for such and after reading posts on here, it would not do me any good, anyway. I could maybe understand if I had multiple Pain Specialists, I've only utilized ONE in the last five years, being compliant! What are your suggestions? What do you advise?
