Oxycontin dosage amounts

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin dosage amounts

oxycontin

Avatar m tn Ive been taking about 100mgs of oxycontin a day for about 1.5 month now. What do i do? Quit cold turkey or taper off? I cannot take days off work.
Avatar m tn There is a new Oxycontin on the market. You should not cut any type of long-acting medication. Oxycontin is a long-acting medication and thus you shouldn't ever cut it because you can die of an overdose. The new pill is more tamper-proof. Please be careful. Yes, the 80mg. tablet is an extended release pill that releases medication over a 12 hour period. Can you talk to your doctor about the questions that you have? Are you prescribed oxycodone?
Avatar m tn I want to get off this medication and am considering the taper method as I do not want to increase my dosage. My current dosage is not providing the kind of relief as when I first started it. I intend to consult my doctor about doing this, but I would like to get some advice from the community about what my taper/detox will be like. I understand that since I have been on the medication for only four months, it might not be as bad as others who have been on it for years at higher doses.
526311 tn?1229286330 He is also on oxycontin, both for severe back pain. The oxycontin he craves and is addicted to (currently tapering down from) but the Lyrica he does not crave at all and sometimes doesn't take any at all during the day. Due to the addiction to the oxycontin, we have both spoken to the doc about Lyrica and he has told us that if the maximum dosage is exceeded then it can give a "high" but only in the higher dosage, it certianly couldn't do that at a low dosage apparently.
Avatar m tn If you want to use the Tylenol 3 to get off the oxycontin so that it is easier to quit the tylenol 3 rather than oxy, then yes that is a better plan and you would also be in less severe withdrawl by doing this.. But you do not want to try and replace that feeling you were getting from the oxy with tylenol 3 because no matter how much you take it will never make you feel as strong as the oxy either..
Avatar f tn Problem is that when the opioid dosage gets up to the large amounts above, undesirable side effects increase significantly which can limit the amount you can take comfortably, and most importantly, safely. A slow titration up can help minimize these side effects but most still experience a large amount of undesirable side effects at large dosages.
Avatar n tn When I convert your current dose of MS Contin into Oxycontin equivalent, you are taking 60 mg less of Oxycontin through the MS Contin. To get dosing equivalent to 120 mg of Oxycontin through administration of MS Contin, you should have been prescribed 180 mg of MS Contin based purely on the pharmacological conversion factor between Oxycontin and MS Contin as Oxycontin is 1.5 times stronger than MS Contin.
Avatar f tn I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?
Avatar m tn I requested Oxycontin because I know it works and th 15mg Morphine Sulfate did nothing. I told my PM doctor that I doubled and quadrupled my dose for the 15mg and still felt no relief. I almost feel like its a placebo that they are experimenting on me with. Has anyone had any relief from being on this type of Morphine?
725248 tn?1316162245 My pain doctor has me on 20mg oxycodone twice a day and up to 6-10/325 norco a day, prior to the oxycodone he had me on 15mg oxycontin twice a day. I am not getting any pain relief from the oxycontin or oxycodone, the norco does give me some pain relief, but am limited to 6 a day as to not damage my liver. What other long acting pain meds are out there??? I have an appointment to see my pain doctor next week, but would like to have some additional info when I go in to see him.
Avatar m tn Oxycontin 40mg 5 pills every 8 hours totaling 1000mg of Oxycodode, Also taking Ritalin 10mg 2xs a day, 200mg Modafinil 1x a day, 2mg 3 per day Alprazolam Xanax, 4mg Flunitrazepam Rohypnol, 6mg 3 per day bromazepam Lexothan, 2mg Lorazepam and 2mg 3 per day of Clonazepam. Of course I don't take all those in the same day just take them as I feel a need to do so.
Avatar m tn I have experienced pain for 10 years and have been prescribed OxyContin for that pain. My dosage has been the same for over 5 years. 80mg OxyContin 3 time a day and 30mg oxycodone for breakthrough pain. My doctors are pain specialists so they know their stuff. I want off! I want to taper my dosage. Is 3 weeks the correct amount of time to reduce my dose to 0?
Avatar m tn I actually, found the meds to be to strong and requested a lower dose of 10mg 3x per day. I continued to take this dosage ip until my second surgery in April. My tolerance level was high and the pain was horrible, as a result I was prescribed 30 mg 4x per day and this time the dosage wasn't too strong. Since that time with the help of my physician, I am on the week of weening down to 2x per day 30mg then the next day 1x per day 30mg.
210982 tn?1280983895 Yes although dosage and frequency of usage does matter. In my experience morphine, high dosage oxycontin and methadone are the most effective (and the most addicting) pain killers.
3184829 tn?1344691676 Hello everyone, this is my first post. Let me start by saying I am not a drug seeker, nor am I chasing a high. I am a Legitimate pain sufferer seeking quality of life, nothing more. I was diagnosed with what was classed as "mild" scheuermann's disease when I was 17 after subsequent tests were conducted to investigate my chronic chest wall/back pain.
539841 tn?1235394722 I have a standing order with a pain management dr that gives me oxycontin 40mgs 4 x per day for gout pain that comes from the kidney ailment among other things. I will not lie- I usually munch them up at the beggining of each day. makes me feel happy for about 5 to 6 hours. I know this is addict behaviour. I am an addict. I will not dare tell my dr this.
Avatar n tn I am sorry you feel that way ,I do not beleive she was being rude.

Avatar n tn You should call his doctor immediately as his dosage may need adjustment. ONLY his doctor should be the one determining the amount and time of his medication/s, not strangers on a public Internet health forum. Also, next time this occurs test his blood sugars. If low give him a half a glucose tablet, or half a glass of orange juice, or a piece of hard candy to raise his levels. Don't overdue it.
Avatar f tn The good news is your ready to stop..Not sure how much your using,,But I was using 120-180mg of Oxy plus 2-3 somas a night..You need to ne honest with your Doc, and get some valium and clondine for sleep..First 3-4 days are the worst with flu like symptoms..You may sneeze, yawn alot, and have trouble sleeping, and maybe the runs..Immoduin AD will help..Take lots of hot baths, Vitiamains, and drink lots of water to flush out toxins! I'm 59 days clean and life never looked so good!

Avatar f tn She is now on desiccated thyroid (1 1/2 years now) This has t3 in it plus t4 and t2, and t1 and selinium and calcitonan.( resembles human thyroid hormone more except for the amounts) Her t3 is kept at the higher side of normal range instead of at the lower side as it was while on Synthroid. Most if not all of her issues of the past are gone and she feels normal and good. You can get t3 in a synthetic form (Cytomel) which can be added to your t4 regiment.
