Oxycontin vs oxycodone dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin vs oxycodone dosage

oxycontin

Avatar f tn I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?
Avatar f tn NOT oxymorphone dear, oxycodone. Oxycontin has the sole active ingredient oxycodone, Perocet has both oxycodone and acetaminophen...hence the "cet" suffix. Theres also Percoden which is oxycodone and asprin. Oxymorphone is a totally different drug 2x the strenth of oxycodone.
Avatar f tn It is oxymorphone and it is strongest pain medication available in pill form based on pharmacology. The oxycodone in Oxycontin is metabolized by the liver into oxymorphone. Therefore, the Opana ER would be a drug that is very comparable to the Oxycontin, only twice as strong.
Avatar m tn There is a new Oxycontin on the market. You should not cut any type of long-acting medication. Oxycontin is a long-acting medication and thus you shouldn't ever cut it because you can die of an overdose. The new pill is more tamper-proof. Please be careful. Yes, the 80mg. tablet is an extended release pill that releases medication over a 12 hour period. Can you talk to your doctor about the questions that you have? Are you prescribed oxycodone?
667913 tn?1242700488 Oxycodone is short term and oxycontin is slow release for long term. Very addicting. Have her get off now before she gets addicted. I have been on them for 3 to 4 years and they say that if you take it for the right reason, (for Chronic Pain) you will not get addicted. Thats bull. I am addicted and withdraws are so bad. This poison ruins lifes. Get her off now. It also makes your pain worse and makes you feel like you need stronger like it isn't doing anything and you have to take more.
1264863 tn?1391118193 I started Jan 9th and I was taking 60mg of OxyContin. This week if my first week off and I feel better than ever. I am clear, stopped forgetting things, I'm happy! And best of all I have LESS pain! I am still taking some Oxycondone for pain when needed but that is it. Anyone who is thinking of tapering, DO IT! You won't regret it!
725248 tn?1316162245 My pain doctor has me on 20mg oxycodone twice a day and up to 6-10/325 norco a day, prior to the oxycodone he had me on 15mg oxycontin twice a day. I am not getting any pain relief from the oxycontin or oxycodone, the norco does give me some pain relief, but am limited to 6 a day as to not damage my liver. What other long acting pain meds are out there??? I have an appointment to see my pain doctor next week, but would like to have some additional info when I go in to see him.
Avatar m tn I was on oxycodone 10 to 20mg/day for about 2 months before the surgery for pain (taking at night to let me sleep). After surgery I went home on 80mg/day -- 10mg OxyContin 2x/day and 10mg oxycodone every 4 hours. After 2 weeks I started reducing the dosage. I got down to about 30mg/day (the OxyContin 2x/day and 10mg oxycodone - 5mg at bedtime and another 5mg in the middle of the night when I would wake up).
Avatar m tn I'm not sure of your question and the answer you're looking for but I'll try. Oxycontin is the extended release form of Oxycodone. It should last up to 12 hrs. opposed to 4-6 hrs. with the Oxycodone. I don'rt feel that there is any difference between the two as far as pain management goes. Why do you ask?
Avatar f tn I was also prescribed oxycontin for awhile. Before the oxycontin I was taking oxycodone. They were 5mg and I was instructed to take 2 every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain so I was taking 10mg every 5 hours or so. When my doctor switched me to oxycontin I was started with the 10mg. He upped it within a week because I felt more relief from the oxycodone immediate release. Get the picture? Oxycontin and oxycodone are the same type of narcotic. The difference is oxycodone has acetaminophen.
Avatar f tn I have cervical dystonia in my neck, fibromyalgia, endometriosis, and hidertitis supperteva (sp?). I had been taking 20 mg opana 2x day along with 30 mg Oxycodone 4x day. My pain management doctor changed my dosage this last month to 40 mg opana 2x day and 30 mg Oxycodone 3x day. I have been on opiate pain medication for about 6 years, pretty much continuously. My problem is that since the dosage change, it seems like the medication is not lasting long enough.
Avatar f tn Actually, Oxycodone is not the generic name for Oxycontin. Oxycodone is am immediate release narcotic medication, while Oxycontin is an extended release form of the same medication. Oxycodone is usually prescribed either to relieve moderate to severe pain for a short period of time, such as post surgical pain, or it is prescribed as a breakthrough pain medication for chronic pain sufferers who are also on an extended release medication, such as Oxycontin.
Avatar f tn m trying to find out if I can do my OxyContin instead of oxycodone with the patch, but I would only do 20mg . 2) I put the patch on at 8am this morning and I can't really feel a difference......will it start or does it need more time?
Avatar m tn Not sure if you are talking about oxycontin or oxycodone pills in various mixes and forms. Either way, oxycontin and percoccet have the narcotic oxycodone in it. Oxycontin is pure oxycodone in a time release form while percoccet is a mix of oxycodone and another OTC pain reliever. Oxycodone is a stronger narcotic then the narcotic in vicodin which is hydrocodone. Both will cause WD. The WD from oxycodone was always much worse for me then hydrocodone but some say it's the same.
Avatar m tn I have experienced pain for 10 years and have been prescribed OxyContin for that pain. My dosage has been the same for over 5 years. 80mg OxyContin 3 time a day and 30mg oxycodone for breakthrough pain. My doctors are pain specialists so they know their stuff. I want off! I want to taper my dosage. Is 3 weeks the correct amount of time to reduce my dose to 0?
Avatar m tn what is the dosage difference> I know both drugs have oxycodone in them, but was there a drop in MG's? do you have any other symptoms?
210982 tn?1280983895 Yes although dosage and frequency of usage does matter. In my experience morphine, high dosage oxycontin and methadone are the most effective (and the most addicting) pain killers.
217599 tn?1202850952 I am not sure they make the 160mg anymroe, but they do still make the 10mg, 20mg, 40mg, and 80mg oxycontin(which is a time-released oxycodone) Much stronger.
Avatar f tn Wait...is he taking Oxycodone or Oxycontin?
