oxycontin and prednisone

On the way out I talked to a lady there and I told her I was bipoler and was on prednisone for joint pain. She told me that prednisone can bring on a psychotic phase in normal people and with a pre-existing condition it can be really ugly. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

She is on multiple medications including Endep (has eased the headaches) tegretol,oxycontin, codeine forte. She has just ceased lyrica that had no effect and has been on prednisone for last 3 days but is now reducing off it. The day after taking the prednisone she was back to normal & painfree.The doctors won't keep her on it. Without it she is bedridden and in enormous pain.

Hello all, I haven't posted for a long time. I was wondering the difference (strenghtwise) between oxy & hydromorphcontin ( long acting). I was on hydromorph last year and switched to oxycontin & oxy IR this spring in an attempt to keep overall dosages down. The oxy seemed to escalate quite rapidly vs increases needed when I was on hydromorph products. Which is stronger? Which is slower to build up tolerence to? Is it different for different people?

There was the numbness and tingling like when your legs are asleep, but then my legs also felt extremely heavy with severe Charlie horses. We called the doctor and they had me take 40mg of prednisone and benadryl. I fell asleep and the pain subsided slightly but when I woke up I was so stiff I couldn't get out of bed or walk. The pain came back later that day, so I went to the ER and they gave me pain meds and also two more steroid shots.

P complaing of no sense of smell, saw a surgeon and surgery was recomended, I was given a prescription for Prednisone, a steroid, this gave me some sense of smell, and here's the but, I had the operation and still could not smell, so more Prednisone, well the upshot is that the steroids have caused me Osteo-Necrosis, this is when the heads of the long bones die, so have now had core decompression on one hip and the other totally replaced. Oxycontin.

I have been unable to bear weight on my feet some days, despite being on carefully monitored dose of OxyContin and Dilaudid...and this has gotten MUCH worse since I stopped taking the Prednisone. I have puffy,swollen hands and feet,which turn bluish/purple when the temperature drops to as little as 60 or 65 degrees.It appears that I have some muscle wasting in my forearms and backs of hands.

It did turn out to be the Oxycodone in the Percoset. I had been off the Prednisone for a week and took 15 mg of Oxycodone across a 24 hr period and had a scary episode of respiratory suppression one hour after the second 7.5 mg dose, even though it was 9 hrs. after the first dose. I had to jump around to keep breathing. And it passed after an hour. The next day I had the hives, breathlessness, woozy, mouth tingling/itching, throat thickening feeling.

Just wanted to know if anyone had experienced tinnitus, or ringing in the ears??!! I've been almost 4 weeks sober....and it started last sunday....and its been constant...I'm now on prednisone....please share your experiences! Thanks!

4 months ago I began a therapy with prednisone (25 mg per day) and one month lather I got tested for hiv 1-2, the result hopefully was negative and all my blood exams were normal (but antibodies against HBV positive, without virus). My doctors said me that hiv is not a problem for me. However i began to worry again because it was been told me that prednisone is an immunosupressant and I fear that it could hide my hiv antibodies. What do you think about? Sould I have to get another test?

I would not be concerned about someone taking prednisone having sex and passing it to their partner. Are you allergic to prednisone for why you are asking?

I took prednisone 60mg plus 2 steroid dose packs plus a short acting and long acting steroid injection in the past 6 weeks. I have been off all steroids x 3 weeks and am suffering from weakness, tremors, shaking inside and out, feelings of anxiety, shortness of breath, muscle cramps in my legs and feet and extreme lethargy. It took the doctors 2 years to figure out that it was my kidney that was causing all my pain, during these 2 years I was sent to a pain specialist that did multiple spinal nerve blocks and nerve burnings which none worked. I was put on Oxycontin 20mg 2 times daily. The pain was getting worse and worse because the kidney was free floating in the abdomen and the urinary lines were being pulled on I was moved up to 80mg of oxycontin 3 times daily.

t as strong and also has acetominophen in it so make sure not to take Tylenol in any other form. Oxycodone and OxyContin are essentially the same drug and have no Tylenol in them. OxyContin is a time relealse and is usually taken twice a day. Usuallymanother med is given for breakthrough pain. All of these drugs will case physical dependence and in some people can lead to addiction.

But since my menstruation I have been having my periods like clockwork and y dint it come the first month i tuk prednisone? Please advice if it can cause changes. Now my periods are regular also I have reduced the dose to 7.5mg. I am ttcing for almost 6 months now. I am wondering how long can I be on 7.5mg of prednisone. How long is it safe? considering the horrible side effects.

Read all the side effects of prednisone, it might be that it is related to the prednisone or prednisone is causing the water retension to be worse... just a thought. Maxing out at 200mg per day of Imuran with 400mg hydroxychloroquine and 60mg prednisone was of no use for me. Addition of rituximab induced a 14 month remission. I think Imuran works for some people and not others. Even at 200mg Imuran, I noticed no side effects.

Short term low doses of Prednisone is not harmful unless you already suffer from emotional instability. If your eyesight gets blurry and/or you feel emotionally distressed while taking Prednisone contact your doctor immediately.

My question is, how much prednisone (and for how long) do you prescribe before and after treatment. Do you recommend prednisone for everyone, or only for those with eye disease? My endo said that he thinks the risk of prednisone is greater than the risk of eye disease and doesn't want to prescribe it. I do not feel comfortable with that statement, as eye disease seems much worse to me than short term prednisone.

I know that long-term use of prednisone can block thyroid absorption but would a 6-day course of prednisone (METHYLPREDNISOLONE 4MG DOSPAK 21) block absorption enough to bump a TSH from 0.11 to 22.06 even while taking the required thyroid supplements???? The last time I *had* to get my TSH this high (for RAI) it took me 4 weeks and the low iodine diet to get my TSH this high (and I still had remaining thyroid tissue). BTW - my Free T3 1.8 (down from 3.9 three months ago) and my Free T4 .

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. In theory, potent immunosuppressive therapy might delay development of antibody and hence a positive HIV test. However, I stress "in theory": to my knowledge, no such cases have actually been reported in the medical literature. And although you took a hefty dose of prednisone, it's not all that potent compared with other immunosuppressive drugs, and only 5 days treatment is unlikely to have had any effect at all.

I have since refused both prednisone and inhaled steroids and am much better for it. I use natural anti-inflammatories. However I do not have IPF, but COPD. I don't know if that makes a difference. P.S. My pulmonary MD has a hard time accepting that I reacted in this way. Also the treatment caused me to suffer adrenal fatigue.
