But due to their side effects,it is better to use saline nasal sprays. The golden rule for chronic stuffy nose is steam inhalation. Inhaling steam from a bowl of hot (but not boiling water) may help to soften, and loosen, the build up of mucus in your nose.
Avatar n tn Till you get an appointment you could take OTC antihistamine medications, saline nasla drops and steam inhalation. This should help with your symptoms. 850029 tn?1238857820 I thought about doubling my dosage but that will cost me $60 a month on top of the nasal sprays etc. My doctor put me on it last year when I started breaking out in hives all over. I realized I had the fragrance allergy. I can control the fragrance part of it but had chronic sinus infections due to my other allergies after I took myself off it. I do nasal rinses, take nasal spray and try to minimize the allergens around me and it really feels like the Zyrtec doesn't little.

Avatar f tn If it is bothersome you can try OTC NasalCrom about 10 minutes before you head out. Also, nasal antihistamine sprays like Patanase should help a lot. Lastly, atrovent in nasal spray form would definitely dry up the drip. Take care and run better.
Avatar n tn I have also been on a regimen of Nasonex and other sorts of nasal sprays that you need a prescription for. Once again, I saw temporary relief only to have the symptoms return. This summer (and now September) of 2008 has been really bad. (I lived in Japan from July 2006 to May 2008, and for some reason I had few allergic symptoms there). I am, like ever, waking up in the middle of the night unable to breathe because my nose gets congested. I blow my nose, but nothing gets drained.
Avatar n tn They may also add some nasal sprays like a nasal steroid or antihistamine or both. Also, a prescription oral antihistamine may work better than an OTC. Some things you can try that do not require a prescription: 1) Sinus rinses - I love the NeilMed bottle. Wash the crud out before you can react to the pollen. and junk. 2) Shower immediately after coming in from a run or ride, or working outside.
Avatar n tn Sorry to hear this. NasalCrom Nasal spray might help might not. It won't dry you out. Not a steroid. Mixes well with other meds. But don't mix nasal sprays. There are other stronger ones like Musenex ect that can stop the runny nose. I take Clarinex antihistamine. Helps but does not stop it. Same with NasalCrom, help but does not stop it. I was wearing a HEPA filter mask for a while to get relief. It worked, no allergy when I wore it. Even a small paper mask helps just a little.
Avatar m tn You may benefit from seeing a doctor and getting a nasal steroid spray and nasal antihistamine spray. Those really help my nasal allergy symptoms. Also, there is an OTC nasal spray here called NasalCrom. It contains cromolyn which is a mast cell stabilizer. Basically it stops the allergic reaction at the source, the nose. It has to be used every four hours though. My personal experience is that I would feel better on the island - fewer pollens to contend with.
Avatar m tn For this, there are steroidal sprays for allergic rhinitis. The steroid content is very minimal in both, sprays and inhalers and long-term use will prevent attacks. When you have an attack, you can use an antihistamine (like Cetzine) for allergic rhinitis. For further relief from your symptoms you could do steam inhalations. Please ensure to do this prior to your meals. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn any suggestions or help? Why can i not use the OTC nasal sprays for more than 3 days? what can i do to remedy the underlying problem & get back to normal breathing? thank you in advance!

You can also use saline nasal sprays or steam inhalation at home.Another effective agent that is available by prescription is cromolyn sodium. In severe cases, Immunotherapy is advised. Avatar f tn take an OTC antihistamine and use a nasal spray like Ocean Saline Spray. Do not mix antihistamines though such as an oral antihistamine and spray. Ocean Spray does not have an antihistamine and will simply dry you out and is safe to use with an antihistamine.
Avatar n tn It can be even easier than that. You could alway ask your doc to try free samples of Nasal Sprays for rhinitis, sinusitis. If it works than you know what it is. Then you need to figure out why it happens like if it is allergy or sinusitis and treat it more specifically if you want to. Once way to rule in allergy is antihistamine like Benedryl. If you take an antihistamine and it stops it's more likely rhinitis.
Avatar m tn Hello. For about half a year my mouth and throat have been so dry/inflammed and/or structurally messed-up that I cannot sit and swallow food without little bits (or more) getting lodged in the pharynx. It's gotten to the point where little bits always feel like they are going down trachea. I can't eat out anymore or around my family because I need to make a terrible hacking noise after every swallow to prevent choking.
862235 tn?1336060295 I've had sore throat(s) for about 2 months now. It's usually around my larynx, sometimes above, sometimes below. It also affects the area right below the left ear sometimes. It's not always there, just usually. I had it for a month then it went away for about three or four days. Then it came back for a couple of weeks and went away again for almost a week. It ranges in severity, when it's there, from mildly annoying to absolutely excruciating.
Avatar f tn Hi there. I was wondering if any of you on the site who have Hep C, who have ever had experience with using a prescription allergy medicine that is a nasal spray? I had taken Flonase in the past, never really cared for the backwash it has. But, I've been seeing an allergist because my allergies have really bothered me this year. He prescribed a medicine that is a nasal spray called Astelin.

If you have a bacteial sinus infection, you will benefit from a course of penecillin or antibiotics. Drink plenty of warm drinks. Keep off milk drinks as these cause mucus production. I have been drinking Lemsip for the last week for a painful and infected sinus (mucus was green with blood).
Avatar m tn Overall, do not take any before discussing this with your GP or obstetrician, avoid taking them before 16 weeks of your pregnancy, and try to use nasal sprays and eye drops rather than tablets.
Avatar n tn It can also be treated using an antihistamine nasal spray.Corticosteroid sprays are also helpful but their long term use can cause side effects.Better to use saline nasal sprays. However the golden rule for chronic stuffy nose is steam inhalation.Severe cases may require sinus surgery. Also get X-rays sinuses and chest doen to rule out pneumonitis. Hope it helps.Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn You need to review with your allergy specialist and talk to him/her whether a change of medication - including steroid nasal sprays and a short course of oral steroids would help in your case. Let us know how you are doing and ifyou have any other doubts. Regards.
