Avatar f tn Hello, The most common way to get rid of a stuffy nose is to use an over-the-counter (OTC) decongestant combined with an anti-inflammatory analgesic (pain reliever) like Ibuprofen. However, you should not use decongestants for more than 5-7 days at a time. This is because they can only provide short-term relief for catarrh, and using them for any longer can make your symptoms worse.. Avoid indigestible, spicy, foods and meats. Eat simply of wholesome food.
Avatar n tn It can also be treated using an antihistamine nasal spray or saline nasal sprays. Symptoms can also be relieved by using a nasal spray that contains corticosteroids. But due to their side effects,it is better to use saline nasal sprays. The golden rule for chronic stuffy nose is steam inhalation. Inhaling steam from a bowl of hot (but not boiling water) may help to soften, and loosen, the build up of mucus in your nose.
Avatar f tn For starts, have you tried an OTC nasal spray or an oral antihistamine?
Avatar f tn If it is bothersome you can try OTC NasalCrom about 10 minutes before you head out. Also, nasal antihistamine sprays like Patanase should help a lot. Lastly, atrovent in nasal spray form would definitely dry up the drip. Take care and run better.
Avatar m tn You may benefit from seeing a doctor and getting a nasal steroid spray and nasal antihistamine spray. Those really help my nasal allergy symptoms. Also, there is an OTC nasal spray here called NasalCrom. It contains cromolyn which is a mast cell stabilizer. Basically it stops the allergic reaction at the source, the nose. It has to be used every four hours though. My personal experience is that I would feel better on the island - fewer pollens to contend with.
666921 tn?1254990618 My LLMD mentioned that the nasal steroid spray was OK to take for 1-2 months if necessary for allergies, as in my case. Another data point.

Avatar f tn excedrin contains caffeine, and stopping it will cause significant headaches from caffeine withdrawal; stopping nasal spray will cause a few days of intense nasal congestion, etc. I would consider the the situation to represent an anxiety disorder; perhaps OCD or perhaps behavior related to an 'organic' disorder such as early dementia. She needs help-- a psychiatry appointment would the place to start, if you can get her to go to one.
850029 tn?1238857820 I can control the fragrance part of it but had chronic sinus infections due to my other allergies after I took myself off it. I do nasal rinses, take nasal spray and try to minimize the allergens around me and it really feels like the Zyrtec doesn't little. And its not even spring allergy time in Minnesota!!!!!
Avatar m tn sinus rinse with a NielMed bottle (you could use a neti pot but the bottle is more effective - most effective part of my allergy routine), antihistamine like Zyrtec or Allegra (generics would be fine), then prescription meds like a nasal steroid or antihistamine. You could try OTC GERD meds as well like Zantec, Prilosec, or Zegrid. See a dr so that you know exactly what to treat and feel better.
Avatar n tn I only spray 1 nostril since I need it to drip down my throat where my mucus is produced. My nose is always mucus free. The the nasal spray finds its way from my nose to drip down my throat. Works FANTASTIC for that. More options. I would do all this before going for Xrays and CT scans.
Avatar n tn They may also add some nasal sprays like a nasal steroid or antihistamine or both. Also, a prescription oral antihistamine may work better than an OTC. Some things you can try that do not require a prescription: 1) Sinus rinses - I love the NeilMed bottle. Wash the crud out before you can react to the pollen. and junk. 2) Shower immediately after coming in from a run or ride, or working outside.
Avatar f tn I think they should consider trying a nasal steroid spray and/or a nasal antihistamine spray. Some of these can be considered safe during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn The one sided facial pain could be due to sinusitis, as it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and sometimes a post nasal drip. It could also be due to tooth infections, impacted tooth or skin infections. The others are migrainous headaches and those caused due to brain disorders, disorders of the eyes , neck or ears to name a few. To find a cure you need to consult your primary care physician for proper assessment. In the meantime take OTC naproxen for relief from pain. Regards.
Avatar m tn Treatment generally consists of avoidance of the causative allergens, once identified, routine daily nasal washes, the use of a prescription nasal steroid spray and/or the use of an antihistamine. The chronic use of inhaled or oral vasoconstrictive medicines, such as epinephrine or Sudafed ® (pseudoephedrine) is not recommended. Routine use of a nasal steroid spray can be very effective in the treatment of swollen turbinates.
Avatar f tn I have tried and tried to do them but after 4 failed attempts, I am done trying. I have tried medications and am currently on a prescription nasal spray which helps a little bit not enough. I have tried antihistamines but after a day or two of no relief I become discouraged and stop them. So my question is can antihistamines take awhile to have an effect or should they provide relief within hours like they are advertised to do??
5011734 tn?1362318973 Is there any OTC that can be taken for sinus pain that WILL NOT cause blurred vison?
Avatar n tn I honestly have zero experience with nasal spray. However I know someone who was addicted to it. She went cold turkey off of it and said it was mostly mental. BUT afterwards her doctor said that it was very dangerous for her to do that and he was quite upset with her for not coming to him. Are you getting it via doctor's care? You should really discuss with the doctor or any doctor before quitting cold turkey.. Just to be safe and to make sure its ok to just stop using it.
1183343 tn?1300883165 yes there is some post nasal drip, but dr giver ms a nasal spray...but after using this my nose is becoming dry but my throat is tickling with mucus,no improvement. i took zantac but no improvement wht shud i do now?...pls help...
Avatar n tn Sorry to hear this. NasalCrom Nasal spray might help might not. It won't dry you out. Not a steroid. Mixes well with other meds. But don't mix nasal sprays. There are other stronger ones like Musenex ect that can stop the runny nose. I take Clarinex antihistamine. Helps but does not stop it. Same with NasalCrom, help but does not stop it. I was wearing a HEPA filter mask for a while to get relief. It worked, no allergy when I wore it. Even a small paper mask helps just a little.
Avatar n tn t get results from taking an antihistamine, but as I do have congestion I have used the 12 hour Afrin spray (should not be used every night) with very good results. So that could be another test to try.
