Osteoarthritis foot toe

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis foot toe

Avatar m tn I have been recently diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my large toe. I believe it is from repeated trauma to that joints having been climbing a local mountain and upon descending much stress is put on that lead foot. I take glucosamine and that's about it, although I do wear insoles in my running shoes that help a bit. There is swelling that doesn't diminish and pain is intermittent. I'm considering checking into surgery and wonder if anyone has any advice about this. Thanks !
Avatar f tn I recently went to my PCP to find out if I had Hypothyroid disease, and got alot more than I bargained for. I was just diagnosed (via x-ray) with osteoarthritis in my large toe (left foot). I have had two surgeries on that foot (for a bunion) back in the 1980's. The joint in my toe has been swollen and it's very painful to walk. I also got what the doctor termed as a positive result for an ANA test. All he said was that the sedimentation rate was something like 1:300 - what does that mean?
Avatar f tn so they left it as gout and sent me on the way with an even sorer toe and a set of crutches. My toe is very tender to the touch, slightly warmer than the other one and hasn't shown any signs of getting better. I cannot really move my toe much (down a little and up barely a couple millimeters). They gave me some indomethicin or something like that (a NSAID) and told me to take that. I am worried about the underlying cause of whatever this is and looking for some ideas!
Avatar f tn Any Help Appreciated! I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis about 2 years ago. I received cortizone shots for several months but did not help much. I was told about Supartz shots and received the first series last September. I was pain-free for over 8 months which was great! The end of May I started having pain and contacted my doctor, I was not able to get in for 3 weeks and the pain increased and had extreme sciatic pain running from my hip to the bottom of foot on both sides.
Avatar n tn Hi Staley, Flatfoot, is a deformity of the foot in which the normal medial longitudinal arch of the foot has been lost. What type of flat foot have you been diagnosed with? Is it a rigid or flexible variety? I think it is flexible flatfoot for you (as per your description), which lacks an arch only when patient is weight bearing, not when non weight bearing or toe-standing.
Avatar f tn Where most people get bunions my foot gets painful and red and from the back of my great toe straight back on top of my foor I get a throbbing pain and sometimes I can't even stand the sheet to touch my foot. Now the other one is starting off and on to hurt. I have been diagnosed with high risk osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. I am wondering if I could have fractured the metatarsals(if thats what they are in the foot) or can it be arthritis causing this burning terrible pain.
5081736 tn?1363314667 I have had a small black spot between my first and second toe of my left foot for a few months. At times, it is tender to the touch but does not itch or burn. I have not noticed a change in the size of it since I first noticed it there. I do have shingles which flares up as a burning itching rash on various parts of my feet and lower legs for the past 4 years. I also suffer from nightly nerve pain in both feet. It feels as if I am being touched by hot pokers.
Avatar m tn Hello, The various possibilities for popping, clicking joints are a cartilage tear or rotator cuff tear that is rubbing with the joint, arthrosis or degeneration of the joint and arthritis esp osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.More harmless is clicking of joints due to relatively lax joint capsules, that allows more than a usual amount of movement. Try stretching your joints if you don’t like cracking them as often and pls do stretches that stretch the ligaments around those joints.
Avatar n tn The L5 dermatome (sensory area supplied by the L5 root) is over the lateral aspect of the leg and most of the top surface of the foot. The sole of the foot is supplied by S1. There is some overlap though. The pain you describe does not sound like nerve root pain, but more suggestive of a local source of pain in the foot.
Avatar f tn I had the hemi toe implant done on my big toe left foot back in Oct. 2011. I also had bone spurs removed, I was told this was the best fix because I have arthirtis in my joint. I knew they very next day something was terribly wrong. I have had rods put in my back and this by far the worst surgery I have ever had. My doctor said no boot no crutches get up and walk immediately after you leave the hospital. OMG ....Its been almost 5 months and there is no relief in site.

Avatar n tn why do my feet ache every morning and when im laying down its along the outside of foot right below little toe
1084398 tn?1277308410 Right foot - dominant 1) Flat feet, familial - really bad pronation 2) Post viral (Parvo B19) ankle arthritis from 1999 3) Hallux Rigidus - this is degenerative arthritis (osteoarthritis) which renders the great toe unable to bend upward. It is rigidly straight. It's also called a Dorsal Bunion - on the top. When you walk you must achieve about 80 degrees of bend in the back foot toe for a proper stride.
Avatar n tn I recently, August 20th, had a total left knee replacement for osteoarthritis. I am 57 years old. I have done very well except the bottom of my left foot has been "numb" since surgery. I woke up in the recovery room with this. Between my toes and the top of my foot is normal. The tips of my toes and the bottom of my foot is not completely numb but feels as if I have a thick layer of callus.
1207048 tn?1282177904 Tendon problems can cause aching (worse at night) too--I was previously diagnosed with posterior tibial tendon syndrome, which runs from the inside of the ankle down the bottom of the foot into the big toe. Have you seen a podiatrist about your ankle pain?
Avatar f tn Hello, Is there anything I can do for "flat feet". My podiatrist recently x-rayed my foot and ankle, came back into the room and kinda laughed and said" You have a flat foot". She never recommended or even said if this could even be cured or what , if any, choices I have on this matter. I have osteoarthritis in that knee(same side). Could this have affected my condition? I have extreme 'rollover" of the ankle bone.
Avatar f tn May 15th, I had my big right toe fused with 2 plates and a screw (due to severe osteoarthritis ). At the same time I had my torn brevis tendon repaired. I had been on short term disability since December because of this foot and carpal tunnel /ulnar nerve surgery in March. I couldn't return to work within 6 months and lost my job /insurance of nearly 10 years.
Avatar n tn I have "bone-on-bone" in the joint of my big toe on my right foot, due to osteoarthritis, much pain and getting worse. Short of surgery (which has been suggested) to replace the joint, would synvic1 by injection help? If so, for how long. I am 62 yrs old and the thought of surgery is uncomfortable, BUT the thought of putting up with this pain for perhaps 30 years is unthinkable.
Avatar m tn I have been having pain in both my feet, both my hands, some in my wrists and shoulders for several months. Pain had not been too intense until a couple of days ago. My right foot, in the ball of my foot is killing me. I have had no injury to that area and have idea as to why it hurts so much. It feels like the pain is on the third joint (the one farthest from the end of the toe) on my second toe. I think it is a bit swollen but I can move my toes without pain at least no extra pain.
Avatar m tn Normal pain relief and anti inflammatory drugs, compresses and rest for the foot if this is osteoarthritis. For your migraines these can be triggered off by certain foods, allergy to medications, stress and anxiety. Keep a diary of the foods and drinks you consume to see if you can find a pattern. The culprit foods that cause triggers for most people are chocolate, coffee, cheese, oranges, red wine. You may have different triggers. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn it involves the entire lateral half of the foot (including all the toes) but especially the right great toe. It feels like my foot is clamped (gently) in a vise. It does not seem to be getting worse, either. The point tenderness is just as severe. It does not seem to be changing at all, despite antibiotics and several days with no weight bearing. The surgeons seem to be stymied. I have mild diabetes well-treated with diet and low doses of Metformin.
Avatar f tn I have the same thing for ten years- pain and foot stiffnes in the morning for ten years- better after walking for ten minutes till 2 weeks ago- all of a sudden the pain was severe and constant with a throbbing- no over the counter meds worked so I made an appointment for a podiatrist- he gave me a prescription for naproxen (whitch didn't work and made my stomache on fire for hours) he diagnosed me with mortons toe- if your big toe is shorter than your second toe you have mortons toe- it can cau
Avatar f tn Is there associated inflammation? Fever? Most likely it can be due to osteoarthritis at the base of the big toe (also called hallux rigidus) which is extremely common. Alternately, it could be due to gout.
1467506 tn?1286416617 I had surgery on my foot 2 months ago to remove a bone spur on the top of my foot. I also had a toe (second toe, next to great toe) that was affected by separate pain and had completely turned crooked. The top of my foot - where the spur was removed is still very sore and painful if I wear shoes that tie or walk for any distance. The entire foot feels cramped as well. The toe issue is unchanged - still the same pain as before bone spur surgery.
Avatar f tn I am trying to decide which is the best way to go. I have osteoarthritis in my foot, and I have to decide between an joint replacement or a fusion in my right great toe. I would like to know the pros and cons to both so I can make an informed decision.
1678656 tn?1369237418 I was being a dummy and riding a tube pulled by a boat and we had the bright idea to tell the driver to go faster! I fell off and hit my right toe on the water. When I finally caught my breath and got out of the water, my toe was in an incredible amount of pain. Okay, I hurt my toe, pain, yadda yadda. Well, that was a year ago and it still hurts! Nothing's broken.
Avatar n tn The symptoms actually started several years ago after I pulled something in my foot. A few days later I woke with such severe pain up the instep in my foot that I could not walk. Took a long time for someone to say it was gout. They pulled fluid but couldn't see under the microscope. Siad it was a problem with the scope. I have never had it in my big toe, always a flare in my insteps or my wrists.
Avatar f tn I am a lot older than you and less than 10 weeks ago I had to have an implant put in my big toe. The cause was osteoarthritis which I've had for years but it ate the joint away. I have had arthritis for years. It isn't just for old people. I think it's in my genes..my husband is 12 years older than me and doesn't have any arthritis at all. I have it in too many places to mention but I do know it likes to jump on our weakest joints, whether an injury or surgery.
