Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis foot care

osteoarthritis

Avatar m tn Lately I've noticed that when I plant my left foot and pivot on it to turn my body to the right, my left knee makes a popping sound. For a few days I could feel something move in the same knee when I would walk down stairs. It felt like it was located to the left (outside) of the center of the knee. That went away. The right knee doesn't have any issues. There is no pain, tenderness, or swelling involved at all. Does this sound like it could be osteoarthritis?
Avatar m tn My question is whether anyone can tell me if osteoarthritis in the lower spine can cause grabbing, debilitating pain that causes the patient to cry out it is so severe. These pains act like pinched nerves, but MRS and Neurological testing shows no nerve damage from the spine. The regular arthritis pain increases gradually when the patient is walking and prevents walking altogether after about 15 yards. The grabbing pain is additional to the regular pain. The only relief for the pain is sitting.
Avatar m tn I have been recently diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my large toe. I believe it is from repeated trauma to that joints having been climbing a local mountain and upon descending much stress is put on that lead foot. I take glucosamine and that's about it, although I do wear insoles in my running shoes that help a bit. There is swelling that doesn't diminish and pain is intermittent. I'm considering checking into surgery and wonder if anyone has any advice about this. Thanks !
Avatar n tn Hi there! Well, it would be inappropriate to comment on the situation without knowing the relevant clinical details like the exact pathology, the exact bones involved, the extent of degeneration, associated conditions etc. On a general note, at first all attempts to treat the arthritis conservatively with medication or interventional procedures must be tried.

I would appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on this for me, or would know anyone who I could discuss this with. Many thanks.
Avatar n tn Hi Thanks for writing to the forum! Foot pain could be due to osteoarthritis. It could also be due to plantar fasciitis. Refer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plantar_fasciitis There is a chance that you have compression of the spinal nerves in the cervical spine region. This can happen due to overuse of computers, work involving straining of neck, canal stenosis, bone disease, spondylosis, poor posture etc.
1091845 tn?1263165600 my one leg is much worse than the other and on this side I too have pain down into my foot...the foot will burn but not the leg/legs....with the legs its more of a tightness/muscle spasm feeling and the non stop ache... (hey I too need SPELL CHECK, you are NOT alone here either!) I have discribed my leg pain as they feel like they are encased in cement...maybe more accurate is they feel like they are CEMENT...heavy,hard to bend, and SOLID...
Avatar f tn I have been suffering with debilitating foot pain for almost two years. First diagnose was Plantar Fasciitis and I was treated with injections and a walker boot and also PT. Six months later I was diagnosed with fractures in both heels and have been in two casts, crutches and another walking boot. I am still in pain! I just had an MRI that shows Marrow Edema in four bones of my foot. What does this mean? I do not see the Dr. again for two weeks!
Avatar m tn Hi there. Pain on top of foot without history of trauma, may be due to a stress fracture of a metatarsal bone. Another cause can be extensor tendonitis or inflammation of tendons that lead to the toes. Trauma and tight shoes and osteoarthritis are other causes. The spurs from osteoarthritis irritate the deep peroneal nerve. Gout a metabolic disease can cause pain across the top of the foot due to intense inflammation due to deposits of monosodium urate crystals in soft tissues and joints.
Avatar n tn I am now having issues with the r foot. achilles tendoin and the joint area in the ankle. Could this be caused the lupus developing further?
Avatar f tn Now my MRI shows marrow edema in four bones of my foot that was not there on previous MRI. My doctor is saying that some people just have fatty marrow! He has not seen the first MRI. WTH?
Avatar f tn I recently went to my PCP to find out if I had Hypothyroid disease, and got alot more than I bargained for. I was just diagnosed (via x-ray) with osteoarthritis in my large toe (left foot). I have had two surgeries on that foot (for a bunion) back in the 1980's. The joint in my toe has been swollen and it's very painful to walk. I also got what the doctor termed as a positive result for an ANA test. All he said was that the sedimentation rate was something like 1:300 - what does that mean?
Avatar f tn And there are simple things such being on your feet all day as in my case with a nylon stocking foot (panty hose) in a ill fitting shoe or a dermatitis or fungus. Nightly Epsom salt foot soaks and cooling foot lotions helped the burning of my feet. I encourage you to consult a Podiatrist or your PCP for a referral to the appropriate physician. Good luck and please keep us posted.
Avatar n tn About three weeks after that, I hit my head really hard. I am curious if anyone has had success through chiropractic care. I saw a chiropractor last week and loved him. He specializes in gentle adjustments (no neck cracking, back snapping type of stuff). I felt alot better when I left but almost a week later and I am right back where I started from. These "episodes" prevent me from enjoying life.
Avatar m tn Hello, The various possibilities for popping, clicking joints are a cartilage tear or rotator cuff tear that is rubbing with the joint, arthrosis or degeneration of the joint and arthritis esp osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.More harmless is clicking of joints due to relatively lax joint capsules, that allows more than a usual amount of movement. Try stretching your joints if you don’t like cracking them as often and pls do stretches that stretch the ligaments around those joints.
Avatar n tn Due to your age, possibility of osteoarthritis is high. Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis that is caused by the breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of one or more joints. Cartilage is a protein substance that serves as a "cushion" between the bones of the joints. Osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative arthritis. Diagnosis is done by x-ray and MRI of the joints.
Avatar f tn I hope they will be able to help you and soon. I suffer from Osteoarthritis and because of this I have foot pain. Now mines from arthritis in my hips that send the pain down my legs to my toes. I'm NOT suggesting that you have arthritis BUT my Doctors have given me a prescription for special shoes AND inserts that are molded to specifically fit my feet and.take the pressure off the balls of my feet.
Avatar f tn Right now, I am under the care of my Chiropractor for my osteoarthritis and herniated disks in back and neck. I am also under the care of my primary physician for my Fibromyalgia. I requested an appointment be made with a Rheumatologist in that hospital since I would like to be under the care of one physician for both of my diagnoses. I don't need a referral either (whew!). So, they will be calling me soon to set up an appointment time.
Avatar m tn For the past three months I have been having this pain on the bottom of my foot right in the middle. I have seen my doctor and he doesn't seemed worried, but its a PAIN when I walk. What could this pain be and what could be causing it ?

1084398 tn?1277308410 I called to get into the dr, I finally see the foot dr. today after work. (I think this is an honest foot pain that is fixable with surgery - not MS related). This last week... after I had an episode of head to toe tremors (not the easy to deal with vibrating), but the ones that knock you on your feet you need to lay down and sleep tremors, now my left foot hurts. I don't know what it is. I think it's MS related. I don't know. The top of my left foot hurts towards the left.
5081736 tn?1363314667 You should also wear comfortable foot wear. If these tips help lower the foot pain, you could touch the black spot and see if it is still painful. I am sorry, but you need to see a doctor regarding this. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. 525545 tn?1293184794 Then this week I fell on ours little fireplace electric heater and I really jarred my whole body, so my Fibro, and Osteoarthritis is no more flared that it was when I broke my foot. Foot is healed and the Fibro is flare and totally out of control my IM dr. said. I am walking around the house with a cane now because of my back with Osteo. & all the symptoms of pain from the Fibro. I honestly am not the kind of person that likes sympathy, understanding is good.

Avatar n tn I had X-Ray of my hip and it showed mild to moderate osteoarthritis. I had physical therapy for 3 weeks and it did not help much. I get stiff when sitting for a long time but stretching helps. Should I have a steroid injection?
Avatar n tn ( Is it possible that osteoarthritis could end my pain-free life at age 30?
Avatar f tn Hello! I would suggest you to go for an X-ray and confirm osteoarthritis. I would also suggest you to go for viscosupplementation and take pain killers intermittently. The only solution if you have complete cartilage loss is to go for a total knee replacement surgery and you can discuss with an expert orthopedician. Take all necessary precautions, wear proper foot wear and you can go in the car and do not put much pressure on your knees. Take care!
