Avatar f tn I have had fibromyalgia since a near fatal car accident 10 years ago. I am currently on Celexa and Methadone, and I have gained about 35 lbs. and I can't figure out how to stop it or why it is happening. My pain management doctor is a neurologist, and he just says it is a combination of the meds, menopause, not being as active, but he is not a diet doctor and his main concern is my pain. Is there another combination of meds that doesn't do this?
Avatar n tn high blood pressure (weight gain does not help this), high cholesterol, osteoarthritis in my knees and feet, hypothyroid (medication did not stop the weight gain), and now fibromyalgia. I feel terrible, achy and tired and in pain every day. I could care less about sex. Everything is very dry and it's uncomfortable, plus the extra weight. I'm depressed. I don't feel good and I don't look good. I wish I had some answers. Doctors look at me like I'm just a lazy, fat old lady.
432312 tn?1265648574 I am so tired of paying co pays just to be told yeah your back looks like it could have some pain... heat and Tylenol thanks. I am gaining weight I know because I am inactive. The more weight I gain the worse I feel and the more inactive I become. I dont know what kind of a doctor I should go to I dont know what magic words to say to get them to take me seriously. 1176578 tn?1263756689 I have made a commitment this year to curb my emotional eating and follow a very strict exercise routine (walking, yoga, stationary bike and strengthening/stretching exercises) and do my best to get this weight off now! My question is, could the joint stiffness in the night and mornings be related to osteoarthritis? Or could it be signs of RA? I see my family doc (first check up in 4 years in a couple of weeks) and I'd like to know the right tests to ask for.

Please also ask your pharmacist to review your medication list with your provider, especially on: 1. The combination of paroxetine and trazodone may increase risk for "serotonin syndrome": monitor closely for symptoms such as increase heart rate, changes in blood pressure, shivering, shaking, tremor, confusion, etc. 2.
Avatar f tn Hi....if you need to gain weight, GNC, etc stores have powders that will help you gain weight; I recommend you continue to exercise though because you can't spot gain or spot reduce. I also believe stress is a major weight loss catalyst for some folks...it is and always has been for me.
Avatar f tn If you lead a busy life, then walk down to your workplace. Prefer taking stairs instead of lifts. Try to lose weight in a healthy way. Start slow and gradually increase the intensity of exercises. Decrease fat content of your food. Increase the consumption of fresh fruits, veggies and proteins. Drink plenty of water every day. At the same time rule out hypothyroidism as it is one of the commonest causes of weight gain. You need to adopt lifestyle changes to achieve your goals.
Avatar n tn Who, after quitting the disgusting habit of smoking for the past 45 years, quit 10 years ago and I continue to eat, eat, eat and gain weight. I have thought about starting the bad habit of smoking again, but am now reading a lot about Topamax for weight loss. My husband developed migraine headaches after a sever stroke about 5 years ago. He went thru all the depakote, etc. for depression, and then in early 2005 had another stroke. He was then started on Topamax.

Avatar f tn If she wants to get a healthy lifestyle, she may do it for awhile to satisfy you, but she can only maintain it and remain happy if she wants to do it for herself. It is common to gain weight in college, and who knows. Maybe she'll come to you for help on how to lose weight. However if you look at your daughter as an object, that her self worth has now made you "sick" because she is now larger, then you're looking for disgruntled psychological damage. I'm sick.
Avatar n tn Having the same problem. All my adult life I've only been able to eat one meal day and even prior to diet that one meal was small (but bad choices). Struggling to eat more now but difficult. I think we don't lose because we stay in starvation mode and not providing ERG/fuel for our bodies to properly function. Hence, our bodies hang on to whatever we consume during said meal. Try to get out of this habit while you are young.
Avatar n tn Since then, I have suffered from chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia symptoms, osteoarthritis in knees. About two years ago, unexplained weight gain (15 lbs) and found 11 cm. (not mm) cyst on left kidney. No treatment. Ultrasound tech said a lot of gas in abdominal cavity causing stomach distention. CBCs are fine. Intermal Medicine doc says it's thyroid, Endocrinologist says no. One doc says "divorce denial" & I go to Psychiatrist.

Avatar f tn I'm 71 years old, normal weight, fairly healthy, other than osteoarthritis in both knees and have Reynauds Syndrome. Had a lumpectomy Nov 11. Low to intermediate grade DCIS. No Comedo Necrosis. 1.5 cm. Negative margins. The radiologist recommended... no radiation, just keep up mammograms. The oncologist wants me to take Femara for 5 years. From what I read Femara causes many problems in a lot of people that take it. I already have osteoarthritis.
Avatar n tn Also very concerned about the effects of the medication synthroid as I have already been having major problems with additional weight gain and not being able to get it off, daily fatigue and joint disease. I have gone ahead and scheduled my surgery for next month (4 weeks from now) but am now wondering if I should request an additional FNA before actually going thru with this? Please give me your opinion.
Avatar n tn I now 1 years later have put on a lot of weight. Exercise is too painful. I had 3 MRI's done a week ago and I am waiting to see a specialist on the 5th of August. The nurse said I had moderate arthritis and degeneration! I am only 34. All the sudden for the second time i could not get out of bed for a week. This is the end of the second week. The first week started on the 16th of July. I was going to a chiropractor before thinking it would help me cause I had no idea what was wrong.

Avatar f tn , it represses your immune system and messes w/ your adrenal glands and causes moodiness and weight gain. Not to mention in the neck(cervical) is a painful spot and very dangerous. I did not even know about this Adhesive Arachnoiditis. That just concluded that I'd rather stay in pain. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Thank you for that info. I might bug you again, if you don't mind?...if I think of other questions. I wish Doctors REALLY informed their patients....
329994 tn?1301666848 I have suffered from lifelong depression and insomnia and currently take pristiq, which is ok, not great but it's the only stuff with no weight gain and since I have been on and off prednilosone so much and so much injections, i have gained almost 70 pounds and weighed almost 200 pounds. I'm only 5'4", so this doesn't help me. I also have 5 herniated discs in my lower back and 3 in my neck.
Avatar n tn I have heard lately that this my be a cause of my weight gain. Does anyone know if any of this could be connected and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
921323 tn?1268679412 Some say, why don’t we save the millions of dollars spent on drug research and instead invest them in education, legislation, and regulations that will help us eat better and exercise more? Put the money towards the health costs of the uninsured. Or, use it to fund research in diabetes, heart disease, or any of the other countless complications of obesity. But is it too early to admit defeat?
Avatar f tn I was always into healthy living, eating lots of organic fresh whole foods and exercising a LOT. I would exercise 3 hours a day doing walks and aerobics and weight lifting. I was a size 0 and had a body fat percentage of only 11 and good muscle tone. Then ... WHAM! My thyroid went wacko and I gained a ton of weight in a matter of months and developed all kinds of health problems. But, this pain thing...that's new.
Avatar n tn Frequently, my hip will feel as though it's come away from the socket and I cannot bear my own weight. Putting weight on it in this condition feels as though the hip will break completely and there is no stability at all. In October I had another cortisone injection under fluoro, and I also had a Synvisc injection to see if the increased synovial fluid would ease the grinding sensation. Unfortunately, these only made the pain worse.
