Avatar n tn I have digenerative disc disease and my neirologist just prescribed topamax, he said it would help with the pain and tingling but could result in weight loss. I am wondering if prescribing topamax for ddd is common among neurologists? I can't seem to find any other information related to topamax as a pain med, only information I have is that it's a powerful drug with lots of side effects, most not so good. The weight loss aspect is the only plus...
Avatar n tn Can anyone give me an idea of how long it usually takes for your metabolism to recalibrate after stopping Effexor and/or Lexapro? I've gained significant weight while on these drugs (despite an intense exercise program and careful diet). My nutritionist and MD told me that the drugs likely altered my metabolism, but no one can tell me how long it will take to correct that. Most frustrating, I've noticed that since I stopped taking both, my weight gain has accelerated.

921323 tn?1268679412 As a physician who believes strongly in the power of personal choice to influence one’s health outcomes, I tend to favor an investment in healthy lifestyles. But in all fairness to the other side of the debate, one can also argue that prevention hasn’t worked out so well either. Despite the fact that we have effective treatments, we are not very effective in their prescription or compliance.
Avatar n tn The doctor hasn't been able to give me any information about what I could have done to my knee. I have been focusing on rehab and losing weight but so far, no improvement. Anyone still think I tore my ACL or reinjured in some form or another?
Avatar m tn Damaging exercises include high-impact exercises, aerobics, and jogging long distances, especially on hard surfaces. I suggest walking and the use of cable or free weights. Start with no weight and gradually work up to heavier weights. For the elderly and those with more advanced osteoarthritis, I would suggest avoiding weights and instead use calisthenics. As you improve, you can add some light weights. Regular exercise will not only improve joint stability but will also aid in weight control.

469720 tn?1388149949 As you may have noticed by now, the focus of this forum is cardiovascular disease(CVD) prevention. The statistics speak for themselves. CVD is the leading cause of death in the US and worldwide. Although we have made substantial progress in the development of medications to combat the causes of CVD like high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes; the rapid proliferation of these diseases virtually negates and medical benefit. In other words, we are treating the consequences, not the cause.

Acetaminophen is in a class of medications called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers). It works by changing the way the body senses pain and by cooling the body." 931217 tn?1283484935 Benefits of Neutering General Benefits - The primary benefit of neutering is the prevention of unwanted reproduction. Though the number of unwanted cats and dogs euthanized at animal shelters has decreased form an estimated 23.4 million in 1970 to about 4.5 million by the year 2000 [1], this still represents a significant problem. Reducing the number of unwanted puppies and kittens has been and remains an important part of reducing the relinquishment and euthanasia of these animals.
Avatar n tn I know the feeling. I am 51 and have recently lost about 25 pounds, but have consisently exercised and taken buku supplements. I have noticed my tricep skin puckering at different angles as well as my thighs. You feel like "this is the thanks I get for watching my weight and taking so many supplements that my stomach is screaming!" Forgive me, but at least on a forum, I can be a "crybaby" rather than put up the good front that I do throughout my real day.
Avatar n tn I eat 6-7 servings of vegetables and fruits per day for my cholesterol, but it's still high, along with my BP. I have been on Weight Watchers for a year, yet lost no weight. I was a workout nut for 20 yrs., but after menopause, still gained 40 lbs! I have hypothyroid, High blood pressure, high cholesterol, Sjogren's, some unidentified autoimmune disease, osteoarthritis, my back is mess. I'm always in pain.

Bartonella causes sore ankles, hot/burning sensations, headaches worse than migraines. Go to www IMMED org and look under autoimmune illnesses. They talk about infectious mycoplasmas which can be a coinfection as well. Search Columbia University /Lymes. They have an EXCELLENT site for very good info.
Avatar n tn Also, if you are a person who has a high stress lifestyle, as in over worked, sleep deprived, no exrecise and poor nutrition I almost guarantee that these accumulative factors are all related to the headaches so prevention would be the key ingredient, not medication. A disc problem is a whole other issue and that also might be the case, but it may be as simple a tight muscles.
Avatar n tn I have opted for HRT largely for the osteo prevention and other aging aspects too including the foggy headedness associated with loss of progesterone (I think I got that the right way round). Quality of life is important and I couldn't imagine dealing with the hot flushes and night sweats I was having for another 50 years (I am only 32). I am taking the lowest I can and am checking out the Bio options.
Avatar n tn The weights were used occasionally and were not heavy (low weight, high reps). He was using them as a routine change from his normal exercise routine of push-ups, sit ups, etc. Could this have caused the injury?
Avatar n tn I am very active and have been regularly working out using the Eliptical, Treadmill and the Arc Trainer plus doing the weight machines and lunges and squats and have never had a problem now all of a sudden I cannot fully bend my knee or it feels like it is burning and tearing.
Avatar n tn Anyway i played soccer until almost 3 yrs ago and in november 2005 i suffered an achillis' tendon break at the same leg (left leg). Since then i put on about 10 kgs of weight. Is all of these things related? Dunno if i suffer from diabetis.
585414 tn?1288944902 I also used to drink piles of coffee to stay awake, I was drowsy all the time. I only have rough days now usually when it's colder outside as I have osteoarthritis in my lower back. I've stopped having tenssion headaches, my neck doesn't hurt anymore, and that's been going on for 15+ yrs when I started Luvox as my first ssri. I can cope more with lower back pain 90% of the time, when my pain is at a level 8+, I don't do well. I also know that pain at that level triggers my depression.
Avatar n tn I've noticed the slightly same feeling under my ribcage on the sides of my stomach, this is after heavy alcohol consumption so i persumed it was something to do with that, but linking them both together and the fact i've been eating alot recently and noticed i've put on weight i'm thinking it could be weight gain and the skin stretching? Either way i'm going to consult my GP wiithin the coming weeks so i'll see what he says.
Avatar n tn I have been searching the net for days about Vitamin D deficiency, and finally came across this. I have been suffering with lower back pain and pain in my knees for about 8 years now and have had about 4 different MRI's done over the years and have been told nothing was wrong.
Avatar n tn This pain is more annoying than anything and has caused me to not lift as much weight as I do at body pump. I am 5 feet 3 and weigh 110 and work out 5 days a week. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I'm 42 exceptionally fit, low blood pressure - been weight training today and spin class so maybe the weight training weakened a blood vessel when I was holding weights
