Opana er vs oxycontin

Common Questions and Answers about Opana er vs oxycontin

Avatar n tn I was recently on 30mg of Opana ER 2x a day and then I was allowed to take up to 4 tablets of 10mg instant release tablets for break out pain. I have found that the 30mg of Opana ER 2x a day is helping me tremendously. However, the 10mg tablets for the breakout pain wasn't doing well for me, so the doctor switched me to 30mg tablets of morphine up to 4x a day for breakout pain. I haven't been able to tell the difference yet, but I hope this is the answer to my breakout pain.
Avatar n tn i am on 30 mg opana er and 5 mg opana. they are good, but they have been causing severe drowsiness so much that i have been nodding off at work, and have been asked to take a medical leave of absence. Now I dont know what to do they don't want me to come back till i'm drug free, but i have chronic back pain.. i cannot work w/out pain med..its too much pain to handle...right now im seeing about getting a spinal cord stimulator put in..
Avatar m tn 5 mg of oxymorphone Oxycodone is half as potent, mg for mg. So an 80mg Oxycontin would be roughly equal to a 40mg Opana ER A 20mg Opana ER would be like a 40mg dose of Oxycontin Converting instant release release oxycodone to Opana ER is different though. 15mg of oxycodone instant release would be, in terms of potency, roughly equivalent to 15mg of Opana ER.
Avatar n tn but i did look up opana and i thought it said it also came in 20mg and 40 mgs....BUT...the few pages i read said opana er (extended release) so i dont know if that is the ONLY way it comes (er), or the other also...
Avatar f tn Personally, I think for most people tolerance builds a little bit faster on short-acting medications because the medication peaks rather quickly (30-60 mins vs. 2 hours for ER meds) and stays at the peak level for a very short amount of time (30 mins vs.
Avatar f tn The problem is that Opana ER can be very expensive, sometimes more than Oxycontin depending on your insurance but I wouldn't let that stop you from inquiring about it as different insurances cover different meds at different %'s. For me Opana ER costs more than Oxycontin. I was paying $255 per month out of pocket. But I would only pay $75 per month for Oxycontin. For others, I have read it's the other way around in terms of price.
Avatar f tn Oxymorphone is the generic name for Opana, Opana ER, Numorphan HCl. It is not part of Percocet's ingredients or chemical make up. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn I am vomiting every 30mins, I have severe, burning diahrea, my anxiety level is through the roof, I am constantly tearing up, crying, yawning, I have restless legs, and life is just not worth it right now. I had asked my physician to change from Opana ER to Oxycontin ER, and he gave me the same dribble, "Recent CDC studies have demonstrated that Oxycontin is ineffective against pain, and it just gets you high, nothing else.
1866508 tn?1333988213 And Oxycontin is oxycodone in extended release form. There are also other long acting meds beside Oxycontin that you could look into such as Oxymorphone (Opana), Hydromorphone (Dilaudid), and Fentanyl which all have a potency that is greater than morphine. My appointment is Jan 3rd, I will let you know how it goes.
Avatar f tn , very strong analgesic, very addictive, mainly used for treatment for addition, but is becoming more an more common for chronic pain relief), then there is oxycontin(time release oxycodone) and ms contin(morphine time release), both of these have become major abuse problems in the us and worldwide, ppl find that after sucking the coating off and chopping the pill up you get all the oxycodone all at once giving a rush identical to heorin.
Avatar f tn My own pain is focused in the same area as yours (across the forehead) Right now, I am taking Oxycontin which provides pretty good day-to-day relief. However I do get flare ups and when my break through meds don't cut it, I use lidocaine. I apply it using long q-tips all the way up my nose to the upper sinuses. It works but numbs out everything. So this is good, when I am curled up in the fetal position with a #10 headache.
Avatar m tn Then I went to a pm doctor for the first time and he took me off the vicodin es 3 to 4 , 4 x a day and fentanyl patch, somas. He then put me on opana er...didn't work, oxycontin and percocet...i hate anything with oxycodone so i got off that. I went back on the fentanyl patch 75mcg and within almost 2 months i went up to 150mcg b/c my tolerance was so high. I detoxed cold turkey and it was the worst and most painful, scariest thing that ever happened to me.
Avatar f tn I've been on Fentanyl, morphine ER and OxyContin. I'd like to take as little as possible. I can deal with where I'm at with the short-acting med. I just have a gut feeling that the nausea is more from whatever is going on with me. And I have an appointment with my primary and hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it. I think it might be something to do with my kidneys. And I'm wondering if it's due to the really high doses of ibuprofen I've used for the last ten years.
363110 tn?1340924019 MS Contin (Morphine ER), OxyContin, Nucynta ER, Opana ER, Fentanyl, BuTrans. I was on MS Contin for about a year before switching to Opana ER and before the MS Contin I was on short-acting opioids only. I have Percocet for break through pain, which isn't helping much anymore. I plan to talk with my doctor about a different breakthrough pain medicine as he only wants me to take a max of 3 per day which hasn't been very useful to me.
Avatar n tn And within 2 years I was taking up to 30 10mg pills a day and had also cross addicted to Oxycontin, because the perks werent enough. But there is hope and it is not fun at first but it is so worth it. I would definetly try and find a program that you can participate in so you have the support you need to get through the hard times. Because I can tell you it is a rollercoaster. I just graduated and out patient program that I was in for almost a year and it saved my life.

Avatar f tn I have called our local hospital ER, and they said if he gets in a bad way, I can take him in there as they can't refuse anyone for un-ability to pay. I have heard you could have a heart attack or stroke, and or seizures. Can anyone help me with advice on what to do? I have heard the first 4-5 days is the worst. I plan to have gatoraide and lots of fresh water for dehydration and tons of prayers! As the day gets closer, the more afraid I am for him, and me, as well.
522415 tn?1242941355 Look, I am taking Opana ER, Percocet, and Lyrica for pain and that doesnt include all the other meds for all the other symptoms... It is alot and I dont take it lightly. I take it to try and survive this ****. Dont let the non-understanding people make you feel guilty or bad about taking the meds that YOU think you need. Nobody else is in your body but YOU!
356518 tn?1322267242 The 1st surgery went ok, but after the 3rd day, I was in so much pain, I went to Er where they kept me for 10 days. After being there 5 days, they did a MRI and it showed there was a bone in there so my dr did surgery again and I went home again. I would go walk every morn like I was told to do just like after the 1st surgery and well, by the 5th day again, I was in so much pain, well this time they didn't keep me, they gave me a shot of something n it helped some n sent me home.
Avatar n tn I just had the SAME thing happen to me last month with the false negatives! I take oxycontin 30mg er, hydrocodone for breakthrough pain, and hydroclorthyzide and metaprolol for high b/p. I also take clonazapam 1mg, zanaflex and lyrica. Does anyone know who their lab was? Mine came back negative from Labcorp of America. My doctor gave me a sharp talking too, (I have NEVER in the 7 years I've been on this stuff had an issue) and I had to repeat my drug ua yesterday.
777686 tn?1235808014 I've been dealing with something similar. I hurt my back at work. I've been on Oxy, Opana, Kadian, and whatever else. Workers Comp paid for it all. Nothing out of my pocket. I've also crushed them all and put them up my nose. I'm trying to stop so I don't lose my wife. It's hard since I still need them for my back. I know how you feel though. I also think that detox/withdrawal is the worst. Feel free to send me a message if you want. Where are you from? Let me know how you feel.
Avatar n tn My monthly pain meds include 15x100mg fentanyl + 60 Opana ER 40mg pills(these ar a little over twice the strength of "2" 80mg Oxycotin), 120 Percocets & mucsle relaxer. Avatar n tn I was taking about 120-160 mg a day of Oxycontin, which is A LOT worse then the vicodin (experienced both)I took 5 days, the first day I took 10mg of methadone, the second day I took 5mg, and the same for the 3rd, the fourth day I took 2.5, and then the fifth day another 2.5, from there it was a mental game, I was pain free....... the mental part is the worst but you can't get through it unless you go through the awful, nausea, pain etc.....
