Opana er vs ms contin

Common Questions and Answers about Opana er vs ms contin

opana

Avatar n tn I was recently on 30mg of Opana ER 2x a day and then I was allowed to take up to 4 tablets of 10mg instant release tablets for break out pain. I have found that the 30mg of Opana ER 2x a day is helping me tremendously. However, the 10mg tablets for the breakout pain wasn't doing well for me, so the doctor switched me to 30mg tablets of morphine up to 4x a day for breakout pain. I haven't been able to tell the difference yet, but I hope this is the answer to my breakout pain.
1264863 tn?1391118193 Anyone taken Opana ER? My doctor wants to switch me from Oxy to Opana ER and I am very nervous about it. Any advice is helpful.
Avatar f tn For example, most are on the Fentanyl patch but also take a smaller dose of Oxycontin, MS Contin, or Opana ER daily along with a short-acting medication for breakthrough pain. If you are uncomfortable with wearing three 100 mcg/hr patches, it is possible that your doctor could prescribe for you to wear two 100 mcg/hr patches and to take Oxycontin 40 mg 3x daily or Opana ER 20 mg 3x daily or MS Contin 60 mg 3x daily.
1445110 tn?1388209711 Opana ER has been a LIVESAVING drug for me, non sedating, i can hold my huge babies and have no side effects, I highly recommended the ER, you take it only 2 x a day, I ran out one day before my pain doctor appt and am in excruciating pain in back and hips. Had no idea how well it was working until I am having to go 2 days without and about to DIE.
Avatar m tn Opana worked well for me... But I have never had a med that works as long as it is supposed to! Have you ever tried Exalgo? It is hydromorphone instead of oxymorphone. I've done both but I'm on MS Contin for my extended release right now, it works well. Low dose ER meds only help to take the edge off so that the instant release works a little better. Maybe you should try a new IR like Roxie's, nucynta, or dilaudid.
Avatar f tn and people I have talked to that are on the Opana they use the Opana IR for breakthrough with the Opana ER. Have you ever tried Oxycodone HCL (immediate release) 15mg, or 30mg tablets for breakthrough pain? I am on Morphine Sulfate and use the Oxycodone for breakthrough and it works well... until your body adapts to the oxycodone and you require an increase in the dose... that's my only hurdle with it.... good luck....
Avatar f tn Has anyone had issues with withdrawal symptoms coming on suddenly? I know the Opana ER doesn't last 12 hours (even my doc warned me this was the case) but this latest batch of opana seems to poop out & give me old sweats about 4 hours after taking it. I've been on Opana ER, 20 mg 2x/day for a couple of months. It's my 2nd experience with long-acting opioids (1st was Oxycontin MS, quit after 10 days due to gluten issues).
Avatar f tn I did well with all but lyrica, cymbalta and MS Contin . So I managed to get to 15 mg of MS Contin with 4 norco per day and the pain was tolerable. I also use ice at least eight hours per day on my spine. My prescription was for 120 of the norco which I filled every few months. As I went down on the opana and transitioned to the MS Contin I felt my pain was better. Unfortunately this was short lived so I begain taking the MS Contin at 8:00 am and 8:00 pm with 4 norco spread out evenly.
Avatar m tn I was on MS Contin at one time which ids the same as Opana ext.rls. It took me about a week to feel normal again. I was very tired and out of it.
Avatar m tn I agree with Geminigirl and Tuckamore's comments that medications affect everyone differently and what may work for someone may not work well for you. But given my recent medication change to Opana ER, I have found information all across the internet from other chronic pain patients that are being switched from Oxycontin to Opana ER due to their doctor's unwillingness to continue to prescribe the medication due to bad press and associated fear from DEA prosecution.
29837 tn?1414534648 Long acting opioids include MS Contin, Kadian, Avinza (these are morphine based), Butrans patch (patch is worn for 7 days), Fentanyl patch (patch is worn for 48-72 hours - this is the long acting medication that I use and I find it extremely effective), Opana ER (oxymorphone), Exalgo (hydromorphone). I have also tried MS Contin and Opana ER. Fentanyl Transdermal has been the most effective and consistent pain medication for me compared to the others I have tried.
172023 tn?1334672284 very good!! It's a morphine-sulfate derivative and work for 12 hrs. in ER form. I find it doesn't have that gross drug feeling that ms-contin of oxycontin has. I can't take that stuff.
541953 tn?1262586226 Hi, Iknow it has been a few years since your post, i was wondering how you are doing on the Opana ER. I am switching from Opana 30 mg ER to Morphine 60 mg ER.The Opana gave me side effects, dizziness, being in withdrawl if I missed a dose, and it did not help my chronic pain.. I have tried many ER drugs and I am having a hard time finding many of them. Plus my breakthrough meds are also hard to find.
Avatar m tn The dose of MS Contin is not equivalent to your current dose of Oxycontin...by a long shot! Taking 15 mg of MS Contin 3x a day is equivalent to taking 10 mg of Oxycontin 3x a day. I hate when doctors sneak in a significant dose reduction through a conversion to another opioid! Even factoring in a cross tolerance factor, your dose should have been at least 30 mg 3x a day.
Avatar m tn if you feel withdrawals go ahead and start it, Ive waited as little as 8 hours after taking ms contin and felt fine, and the suboxone had a lifeaving effect. Youve defintely waited enough time.
Avatar f tn Hey everyone....I am weening off of Ultram and My doctor switched me over to MS contin ER. (Morphine Sulfate extended release.) Does anyone know anything about this drug? I've never even heard of it before. I switched over from the Ultam to the MS and I did not get any withdrawals. Now my doc is slowly decreasing my dose of MS. Any info on this med would really, really be appreciated. Thanks!!!
Avatar m tn Since this is in the Oxymorphone category, is it the same or stronger than MS Contin. I take 40mg of MSContin (long lasting) every 12 hours but it does nothing for my pain - never has even after a Hysterectomy with a Morohine pump in 2001. I'd like to ask my Dr. about this, but if it's the same thing......no need to I guess. Message me if you'd like.
Avatar f tn Before we really got to discuss it my insurance company said I had to switch from nucynta 50mg to opana er 15mg. I was just wondering if I can kill two birds with one stone. Should I be able to reduce fentanyl dose from 25 mcg to 12 mcg since Opana Er 15 mg has entered the mix?
1331804 tn?1336867358 Some of the low back pain came back but I think I can make it to 9 pm when I am scheduled to take my nighttime dose. So it sounds like both MS Contin and Opana come with nausea in the beginning. When I first started MS Contin, I had heart burn and headaches, both of which went away. Gotta "love" these adjustment periods! You have a great weekend too!! Thanks again for your help and advice. It is much appreciated!
Avatar f tn I rarely see anything about morphine or ms contin on the addiction forums. Does anyone know why? Is Morphine not used? Is morphine easy to stop taking? Does it have any withdrawal symptoms?
210982 tn?1280983895 I am asking because my Dr is switching me from Roxi to MS Contin and all I see is the ER and I am already taking Morphine Sulfate ER 100mg. The Roxi was for break through pain...is there an instant release? Thank you!!
Avatar m tn when i could not find oxycontin i would take opana er 40mg. opana(oxymorphone) is about twice as potent as oxycodone. they are rather new i believe they came out in 2002?
