This helps to cut down the amount of acid produced in the stomach which is why it should be taken before food. When I used to take it I took it morning and evening, but always on an empty stomach. Ps Do you not have an instruction leaflet with your medication?

Avatar f tn After I finished my meds i went to a party and drank a lot of alchohol on a saturday night, monday came along and my stomach was still feeling fine, so i went to another party and drank alcohol. By wednesday morning my stomach was feeling really bad It was empty and i vomited green liquid. My stool suddenly changed light brown and my stomach hurts everytime i moved. Went to the doctor and told me it was acid so he prescribed me omeprazole for one week.

I thought the omeprazole was working, until recently when I had Taco Bell and my stomach hurt again. Doctor also said I could be lactose intolerant, but it is not set off by milk... I heard that PPIs such as this can increase the risk of pneumonia and he has a horrible chest cold. cough right now, should I discontinue taking this medication until this passes? Are the chances of it turning into pneumonia greater if he is on omeprazole? Or is this risk factor only for prolong use?
Avatar f tn Commonest cause of chronic nausea is acidity. Take omeprazole (empty stomach in morning) along with antacid gel and see if it helps. Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc.

The problem is that the inflammation keeps the stomach from emptying normally so the bile that refluxes back into it just sits, creating more inflammation. This is not uncommon immediately after cholecystectomy and the cycle can usually be broken by giving sucralfate to coat the stomach and let i t heal.
