Avatar m tn s patients usually have low or no acid which makes me concerned about taking this. And I read about ensuring you space out when you take omeprazole. I also have low ferritin and was taking iron, which I saw online is contradicted. Does anyone have experience with taking this?
581954 tn?1223391496 Is it possible for this to be a side effect from Omeprazole? And how long does it take to get out of your system? I have heard it could take 3 months and I have heard it won't take longer than a week??
Avatar m tn Since February I have had aches near and around my adams apple. It comes and goes. Went to my gastro doc and he believes it is an ENT issue. My gastro scoped me 2 years ago and found gastritis and a little reflux-nothing horrible. I'm taking 40mg of omeprazole each day. I noticed that I had what felt to be a larger than normal lymph node on the right side of my neck too. I was put on an antibiotic and had a ultrasound of the neck area.
Avatar f tn Omeprazole is for acid reflux - it shouldn't have any effect on your TSH, and you shouldn't have any side effects from stopping it, other than possibly more acid reflux. I took Aciphex for many years, then switched to omeprazole, when insurance refused to pay for Aciphex...... had to go to the 40 mg caps for some time. Once my thyroid levels began to come in line, I stopped the omeprazole.......
Avatar f tn Had total thyroid removal in September 2011. Voice still gets hoarse when I talk alot. Also, right side of my neck and under chin feels numb and tender to the touch. Been prescribed Omeprazole and now Protonix for "acid on vocal cord (box). Never had any acid reflux or heartburn. Have appointment for a "Swallowing Test" next month. As for the neck/chin issue...docs don't seem to be concerned about it. Was told it won't go away.
974371 tn?1424653129 00 am sweating and stomach getting upset and bloating and nausea. Took Xanax, Levsin and Gas X, no better. Something isn't right. I am sick! Wonder if I should get a second opinion. This is about daily now.
Avatar m tn Have been taking 40 mg. of omeprazole for GERD which was diagnosed a year and a half ago. Primary care sent me to ENT for the cough, who did a scope of my throat and sinuses and didn't see anything she thought would cause the cough. ENT tried increasing the omeprazole to 80 mg. (40 mg. 2 times a day) for GERD with no change in my cough and now is treating me with QVal inhaler thinking it could be my lungs.
Avatar f tn Eat at regular intervals as you are now doing. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks, caffeine, and spicy food. See if this helps. Also get your BP checked to see if it is not too high or too low. It can also be stress and lack of proper sleep. If it does not then you will have to consult a doctor to run tests to rule out thyroid problems, ear problems, pinched cervical spinal nerves, epilepsies, heart problems, etc.
Avatar f tn I take omeprazole 20mg and have been taking it for over two years, I still get the bloating and stomach pain, and also pain just beneath the bottom of lef rib cage, about 4-5 inches from center, and I know it is caused by bloating, or excess air, because when it happens, it is about two hours or so after dinner or if I drink a lot of water. It seems to help if I eat small servings throughout the day, rather than a large dinner, eating breakfast or a light lunch does not trigger it, only dinner.
Avatar f tn I have an underactive thyroid and hashimotos. I had heartburn and reflux so bad, I got an endoscopy. I found out it was a hiatal hernia. Who knows if there is a connection or not???there is nothing you can do about it anyways, except Medicare. It definitely makes me more in tuned with the stomach issues.
Avatar n tn I have mild food allergies to peanuts, wheat, milk and eggs. When I eat peanuts my mouth burns and feels sore and then I get horrible stomach cramps followed by severe diarrhea, when I eat wheat I get sick with stomach cramps and diarrhea, when I eat eggs my throat feels itchy and swollen, when I eat diary products I have a hard time breathing and can get sick enough to vomit because of all of the mucus production.
Avatar m tn Hi Everyone I hope there is some one out there who can help me. I have suddenly came up with GERD. I have very rarely felt acid coming up in to my chest. One night I woke up with difficulty in breathing and severe gagging. After few days of running around one doctor diagnosed a sever Pharyngitis and prescribed me with penicillin for ten days and referred me to an ENT surgeon. ENT surgeon agreed with the Doctor and asked me to see a Gastor Consultant.
Avatar n tn in my throat and this past January I was sent for an ultrasound for a possibly enlarged thyroid. I received a letter about a week after that saying my thyroid was not enlarged but I had a small nodule in the lower right pole that appeared to be nothing worrisome. I've also been experiencing a problem with my voice getting hoarse at the end of the day.
Avatar m tn And it was only once then. It just happened so suddenly, I was breathing find and then I lie down and immediately begin experiencing problems. I also have terriible posture and spend 5+ hours a day using the computer, sitting not up straight in a chair, not sure if that has anything to do with it either.

Avatar f tn I sure could use some advice. Being at my wits end with these problems and now being on Medicare, the docs don't do much for me. I'm 74 yrs old, male, retired, very active. About 10 pounds overweight, other wise fine. Back problems are degenerative and rheumatoid(I think that's it) Problem: stomach problems. Had ulcers since teenager. Almost died with bleeding ulcers when I was 39.
1744042 tn?1311261168 Yes, GERD and thyroid disorders are related. Many of us who have thyroid issues have or had GERD or acid reflux. I was on Aciphex, which is one of the stronger acid reducers and at times, that didn't even touch the reflux; my insurance quit paying for Aciphex and I was forced to go to omerprozole; I'd have to take 3-4 times the recommended dosage before it made any difference at all.
Avatar m tn At first my wife had urinary infection, few weeks later she started to have fever and stomach problems, the docter told her it was a gastroenteritis. I bought her omeprazole and gave her amoxicilline, that worked. She felt fine, but few weeks later she had urinary infection symptoms again. The doctor gave her antibiotics again, that helped her.
Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
Avatar n tn Now due to the pregnancy, it seemed to worsen as I experience painful heartburns. My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I am afraid it might harm the baby. Anyone here experienced the same?
Avatar n tn t correct the underlying problem, but it can alleviate a good deal of the pain associated with ulcers by reducing the amount of stomach acid (the actual substance causing the pain). Omeprazole and other PPIs can and do give ulcer patients a better quality of life while they heal.
Avatar n tn I get up and have 2 or 3 cups of tea with sugar, should wait a 1/2 after taking the medicine before drinking the tea?
Avatar n tn is omeprazole a nercotic pain killer? i know some medications that may b addicting so i thought i would double check..also i had seen that u can take in an i.v is this true and if so how?
