Omega 3 fatty flaxseed oil

Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 fatty flaxseed oil

omega-3

Avatar f tn The omega-3 fatty acids should be in your prenatal.
Avatar f tn I use a stabalized ground flax seed product to provide about 2/3 of my daily Omega-3 and a high quality fish oil capsule for the final third. The flax adds a pleasant nutty flavor to the small portion of yogurt I mix it with. I use products with (if I remember right) a 6:1 ratio of Omega-3:Omega-6. I get plenty of O-sixes from my diet (they are easy for most of us) but don't eat nearly enough foods rich in O-threes to keep a good ratio going.
Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I would listen to your cardiologist or internal medicine doctor if they are very familiar with this situation. Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil can both sometimes increase bleeding in patients taking blood thinners like coumadin (warfarin), apirin, and plavix. In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels.
Avatar m tn Loaded with alpha-linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid that helps reduce inflammation, flaxseed has been used for centuries for medicinal and health reasons. Gandhi proclaimed, "Wherever flaxseed becomes a regular food item among the people, there will be better health." The seed itself has terrific nutritional value, very usable protein, tremendous fatty acids, and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Additionally, they're a great source of fiber.
518994 tn?1212242047 There are various vitamin-mineral supplements available that contain this or you could just add a little (~1/2 teaspoon) extra virgin olive oil to your dogs meals. Olive oil is a great source of Omega-3 Fatty acids. The omega-3's are the same for people and pets. If you give too much the result would be a bit of gas and/or loose stool.
689528 tn?1364135841 The reason being is because flaxseed is a major source of omega 3 fatty acids, which is highly recommended during pregnancy and breast feeding. Omega 3 fatty acids will enhance the baby's brain development. In the end, flaxseed is definitely safe to take during pregnancy. Just make sure you keep the dosage to a minimum.
Avatar n tn Suggest taking your prenatal vitamins and increase you intake of garlic and omega 3 fatty acids (plant sources mainly) from your diet instead of supplements. Your consummation of fish needs to be limited to decrease mercury intake. Hoped this helped you.
Avatar n tn To be effective, omega oil supplements usually have to be taken in distilled form (meaning gelcaps, not flaxseed). They are absorbed better if taken with a fatty meal.
1192727 tn?1282735542 What about flaxseed oil as omega-3 fatty acid supplement? Is it better than fish oil? Or does it have the EPA prob?
Avatar f tn * oily fish, like mackerel, herring, sardines, anchovies, salmon, and pilchards * Omega 3 fish oil supplements * fresh or frozen tuna Omega-3 supplements are available but check to make sure that your supplements are not made from fish livers. The liver can contain high amounts of retinol vitamin A, which has been linked to birth defects. Omega-3 supplements not derived from fish livers but rather from the body of the fish are less likely to contain this type of vitamin A.
4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
Avatar f tn Pumpkin seeds I was told is a good source of those omega 3 fatty acids, which is good for inflammation and mood.
Avatar n tn fish oil (if not allergic to it) flaxseed oil....evening primrose oil...take 1 or 2 capsules a day...It can be either Omega 3..6..or 9 all the Omegas work well i have found... Worth a try...and remember i takes a while to start working....Good Luck....
Avatar n tn It is working very well, but his dose (after gradual increase to a point of benefit) is more than recommended. Can he overdose on 3 times the normal dose of purified omega 3 fish oil..the brand he takes is Health from the Sea PFO pure fish oil liquid. He takes twice the dose of the flax seed oil (same brand name).
Avatar n tn Also, flaxseed oil or enteric coated fish oil capsules have omega fatty acids that are good for inflammation. I take the flaxseed oil capsules, 1000 mg morning and mid-day for my own osteoarthritis in my jaws as well as for mood. Certain foods are rich in omega fatty acids as well, like macadamia and walnuts, pumpkin seeds and freshwater fish, such as salmon and tuna. And Ester-C (gentler on the stomach than plain vitamin C) can help with circulation to the area.
Avatar m tn I wonder if this is a PATM symptom or just me. Whenever I put one full tablespoon of Omega-3 oil (in this case flaxseed oil but it doesn't matter if it is plant-based or animal-based) into my lunch about 2-3 hours later I kinda fall into a coma/unresistable fatigue and when waking up I have this feeling of being doomed and can't stand anybody although normally I'm a very relaxed kind person.
Avatar f tn Evening primrose oil may benefit dermatitis by improving deficient levels of essential fatty acids. Also, taking omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oil and flaxseed, have anti-inflammatory properties and may help improve skin (this is a daily supplement I take). Try to find chamomile creams, which topical chamomile is about as potent as a product containing 0.25 percent hydrocortisone. Chamomile-based creams may help relieve dermatitis. I hope you find releif soon!!
Avatar f tn Hey ladies have any of you gotten a Dr's advice on best source of omega 3 for baby's brain development? I was told that ground flaxseed is best but other literature says that fish oil is better as it has the DHA property. Any advice???
Avatar m tn Eating foods rich in the good omega fatty acids, such as omega 3 is good for your blood vessels also.... things like freshwater fish, flaxseed meal, walnuts, macadamias, almonds, and pumpkin seeds.
Avatar n tn Why shouldnt omega 3 oil from say flaxseed or hemp oil be put directly into the eyes for dry eyes? I have tried it and now my eyes are blurry is there any danger? Also does honey pose any risk when put in the eys?
Avatar m tn These include taking extra amounts of omega-3 fatty acids (1 tablespoon of cod liver oil) and omega-6 fatty acids (300 mg of GLA), along with 400 IU of vitamin E as mixed tocopherols each day.
Avatar f tn s a food, not an isolated supplement like taking one vitamin. Further, while fish oil and flax oil both contain omega 3 fatty acids, they predominate in different ones. Fish oil contains DHA and EPA; flax oil has other omega 3 oils and some 6 and 9 as well. So they don't do the same thing. If you were going to do just one instead of both, I'd say take the fish oil, but if you were a vegetarian, I'd say take the flax. I take both.
