Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 benefits of flaxseed

omega-3

Avatar f tn I would listen to your cardiologist or internal medicine doctor if they are very familiar with this situation. Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil can both sometimes increase bleeding in patients taking blood thinners like coumadin (warfarin), apirin, and plavix. In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels.
Avatar f tn The omega-3 fatty acids should be in your prenatal.
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
Avatar m tn After being diagnosed with the beginnings of heart disease I have been doing a lot of reading and it appears that Omega 3 may benefit my condition. Does anyone know if this is true and if so can you get Omega 3 anyway other than eating fish?
374933 tn?1291081784 I use Nordic Naturals or Trader Joe's brands and have no problems with them. they are molecularly distilled to remove any heavy metals. If the complex means omega 3-6-9. stay away. Our diets our usually heavy on the omega 6's and low on the omega-3's. Taking Omega 3 is enough to set the balance straight. Omega 3's are a great supplement and can help inflammation, cholesterol, heart disease and in high enough doses- mood.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar f tn 1 ratio of Omega-3:Omega-6. I get plenty of O-sixes from my diet (they are easy for most of us) but don't eat nearly enough foods rich in O-threes to keep a good ratio going. Therefore, I supplement heavy on the Omega-3 side. That makes my supplements a bit more expensive but why go cheap if I end up paying for an overabundance of what I already have and remain deprived of what I need? Luckily, flax seed is an excellent alternative to fish oil when you're considering quality OR cost.
Avatar m tn I wonder if this is a PATM symptom or just me. Whenever I put one full tablespoon of Omega-3 oil (in this case flaxseed oil but it doesn't matter if it is plant-based or animal-based) into my lunch about 2-3 hours later I kinda fall into a coma/unresistable fatigue and when waking up I have this feeling of being doomed and can't stand anybody although normally I'm a very relaxed kind person.
Avatar f tn I do alright using flaxseed meal rather than the psyllium based fibers that you mentioned. I can use just a little in water, like the fiber drinks, or just sprinkle a little on my food. It's an actual food product and it has nutritional benefits, like omega 3. I buy the Bob's Red Mill that is available at Trader Joe's, because it's more affordable. It's already ground flaxseed meal. I haven't heard of the Heather's Tummy Fibers, so I'll have to look for that.
689528 tn?1364135841 The reason being is because flaxseed is a major source of omega 3 fatty acids, which is highly recommended during pregnancy and breast feeding. Omega 3 fatty acids will enhance the baby's brain development. In the end, flaxseed is definitely safe to take during pregnancy. Just make sure you keep the dosage to a minimum.
Avatar n tn It is working very well, but his dose (after gradual increase to a point of benefit) is more than recommended. Can he overdose on 3 times the normal dose of purified omega 3 fish oil..the brand he takes is Health from the Sea PFO pure fish oil liquid. He takes twice the dose of the flax seed oil (same brand name).
Avatar f tn Hey ladies have any of you gotten a Dr's advice on best source of omega 3 for baby's brain development? I was told that ground flaxseed is best but other literature says that fish oil is better as it has the DHA property. Any advice???
550622 tn?1247656720 The Optomistrist has me on 3 different eye drops and an Omega-3 Capsule. The red in my eye is starting to clear up. Is the really a chronic issue or does it get better?
Avatar f tn Omega 3 and DHA are what's recommended: Bellow is a summary of recommendations for FA consumption, notice that patients without documented CHD should consume those fatty acid as fish in their diet: 1. Patients without documented coronary heart disease should eat a variety of (preferably fatty) fish at least twice a week. Include oils and foods rich in alpha-linolenic acid (flaxseed, canola and soybean oils; flaxseed and walnuts). 2.
Avatar n tn Why shouldnt omega 3 oil from say flaxseed or hemp oil be put directly into the eyes for dry eyes? I have tried it and now my eyes are blurry is there any danger? Also does honey pose any risk when put in the eys?
Avatar f tn Recent eye exam revealed moderately dry eyes (I have been having a lot of discomfort) so I have been trying out different drops. But I have also tried adding omega 3 supplement. I first tried Ocuvite 50 plus which doesn't seem to have enough omegas to make any difference. I then tried Thera tears nutrition which has large amounts and actually made a difference! .....Bad news... It also makes me itchy and gives me diarrhea! Now what?
1765695 tn?1313669583 These sources are important, the benefits and risks of omega-3 and omega-6. omega-6 is essential to health. In fact research has linked an impressive list of health concerns to omega-6. It has been suggested that omega-6 should be used in the treatment of anorexia nervosa, ADHD, osteoporosis, diabetes, eye disease, certain skin conditions, allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, tuberculosis, cancer. The average American diet provides more than 10 times the proper amount of omega-6.
Avatar n tn While all children with ADHD are not deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, we believe that the addition of omega-3 fatty acids to the diet may be important for some ADHD children. In fact, studies show that children whose treatment program includes only medication, educational and psychological therapy continue to be at high risk for vandalism, petty crime, frequency of alcoholic intoxication, and possession of marijuana.
1670226 tn?1334252274 Evening primrose oil is good and you shouldn't stop taking it, but it's not an Omega-3. Omega-3's fight inflammation in your body. Plus, my optometrist said my eyes had "an oil problem," as in not enough. I alternate taking (1) 1200mg capsule of fish oil daily and (1) 1000mg capsule of flaxseed oil daily. That's just a personal preference. Also, when my eyes were really bad, I took one of each for 4 or 5 days.
612551 tn?1450022175 Hi Jerry. There are some benefits of flaxseed, as the oils are similar to fish oils but without the smell. However, there is a higher ratio of omega-6 to omega-3, which isn't too good. It's a complicated process, but effectively dogs find it hard to convert alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) to the more active non-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, so although some omega-6 is okay (in fact, some say it's essential), it's the ratio between omega-3 and omega-6 that's important.
Avatar f tn Secondly add omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids to your diet (salmon, mackeral, sardines, etc) and supplement good quality Omega 3 - flaxseed oil is omega 3 but not in a form that is immediately available and so has to be converted by the human body - if you can get uncontaminated salmon Omega 3 it is a better bet.
Avatar m tn An interesting question would be, does the source of omega 3 matter, assuming this study is true (and the article cited by Gymdandee suggests it isn't a good study for this). Some have argued that too much flax might be a bad idea.
Avatar f tn My doc recommends a prenatal vitamin for everyone and omega 3 if u have less than 3 servings of fish each week.
Avatar f tn Hi, I take flaxseed oil. I was taking it for the benefits to the heart. Haven't heard about benefits to panic attack sufferers. Would like to learn more though.
