Avatar n tn A large study was done in 2004 that looked at many smaller studies and there was a mixed bag in terms of effects on glucoses(some increased, some decreased, some were not affected). If your husband has high cholesterol and wishes to take Omega 3 fatty acids, they may do him more good than harm in the long run. If he decides to take them he should keep checking his blood sugars regularly, and if he has significant increases, then perhaps this isn't the right medication/supplement for him.

To break that down simply it means nuts, seeds, and peanut/olive oils can be eaten. Suggest having them eat a moderate fat diet to help lower their cholesterol. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats and no Trans fats.
720228 tn?1377748631 How much omega 3, 6, 9? just had my cholestrol checked and it was 255. I am also starting prevastation. What if any are the risks of taking this medication during the first two to three weeks of pregnancy since it takes that long to find out that you are pregnant?
317787 tn?1473362051 But keep in mind the connection between cholesterol levels and heart disease has no consensus and is increasingly being challenged by medical researchers, so how much good it does is in question. The real bad stuff is triglycerides. It's possible, and it's true with me, that if you have high HDL you'd have somewhat high cholesterol but it would be a good thing, not a bad thing, because the high levels is not the form of cholesterol thought to be a problem.
Avatar f tn I do take Omega 3, and I haven't and don't have any serious issues with cholesterol and no problems at all with my heart. I walk 6 miles a day, and eat very healthy. I'm just looking for some ideas, and then I'll do my own research, but thanks anyway!

Avatar m tn Hi there, I just took a home cholesterol test and found out my LDL(bad) cholesterol is 130 or so, which I know is great, but my HDL(good) cholesterol is 24 or so, which means I am at serious risk for heart disease.
Avatar n tn eat less saturated fats and cholesterol containing foods for lowering of cholesterol and decrease the amount of starches to decrease the triglyceride levels. There are other medications which may be useful: crestor which is a cousing of the lovastatin but which is significantly stronger in its ability to reduce LDL and in fact actually raises the hdl.

Avatar m tn Cut out the empty carbs like sugars, pastas, breads and don't drink. All this will increase you LDL and TGLs and total cholesterol. Also, your HDL is high which is good, but some exercise may increase the HDL levels and that will help off set any high LDL, but ask your doctor first. Also, you need to re-test because you did not get a true 12 hour fast before your test and alcohol is the worst thing to have that close to a test.
Avatar m tn Your concerns should be increasing your HDL which you can do through exercise, diet and using supplements such as Omega 3's and Niacin. Your Tri's are also high but can be brought in line by cutting empty carbs like breads, pastas sugars. If this fails I would consider a statin as you have a family history of heart disease in your family. Also, did you mean that your fasting blood sugars were over 200?
Avatar n tn I am so tired of being hungry all the time. I take one a day cholesterol plus multi, vit C, omega-3 Complex, and calcium with D. I am skinny so obesity is not a problem and I am 63. What else can I take? What can I do? Guess I am just not eating right. Stay so tired. I think my dad had high cholesterol, so gues I am doomed.
Avatar n tn omega 3 oil pills 100% pure - Iv been on them for over 3 years now , cholesterol has gone down to normal figures good and bad. as well Niacin is good, if you can take the side effects ! alot people cant take it. Some Doctors and people dont like fish oils - and will tell you not to take and it wont work ! from my point of view , I took it anyways and it worked well - cholesterol went down within 4 to 6months of daily intake. you can check it out on oceanic.
Avatar f tn Ocean salmon (not farm raised), cod, bass are high in omega 3 which help the heart. Shell fish are high in cholesterol but have lower fat. they are acceptable but less ideal. Most experts, recommend no more that 3 servings of meat per week and those should be small. Only 20% of your cholesterol is absorbed by your gut from food, the other 80% is made from the fat that we eat. the only way to decrease cholesterol blood levels is to decrease fat intake.
Avatar n tn An excellent way to accomplish this is to eat fish, especially those high in Omega-3 fatty acids. I eat no red meat, limited chicken and low fat cheese, lots of salmon and other fish, and take Omega-3 fatty acid as a supplement as well. Learning to leave the red and processed meats behind is hard at first, but just like sugar, you eventually lose your taste for it. For me, well prepared salmon or trout beats a rare steak any day.
