Avatar f tn I found the best for lowering cholesterol is the omega 3 oils fish oils but the pure pharm quality ones. it takes between 6 and 8 months of taking the pills daily - to get it down plus eatting right. sounds like your eatting right - Iv been on the Res Q products for years ! I also take ldlx for the tryglerides , as they were out of wack from poor eatting habbits I had. everything takes time to work - but they both pretty well put things back to normal for me..
Avatar f tn I've purchased galic and parsley tablets as well as Omega 3-6-9 tablets in the hope of getting my colesterol levels to a normal numbering. But today I read that Omega 6 isn't that good as it could counter the effect of Omega 3 and induce inflammation. Now I"m wondering if I just spent 30$ for nothing. What do you think?
Avatar f tn I do take Omega 3, and I haven't and don't have any serious issues with cholesterol and no problems at all with my heart. I walk 6 miles a day, and eat very healthy. I'm just looking for some ideas, and then I'll do my own research, but thanks anyway!
Avatar f tn * Eat fish high in omega-3 fatty acids such as mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna and salmon. * Consider medications if diet and lifestyle changes don't help. Weight loss from diet changes and exercise are the first steps. Supplemental niacin or high-dose fish oil are often effective. Best wishes ...
Avatar n tn It is recommended that all Trans fats and saturated fats are not consumed, but omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats can be eaten. To break that down simply it means nuts, seeds, and peanut/olive oils can be eaten. Suggest having them eat a moderate fat diet to help lower their cholesterol. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats and no Trans fats.
Avatar n tn In a nutshell, you need to eat more omega 3s and cut back on omega 6s. Slash your carbs and go for healthy fats and protein. And look to boost your intake of antioxidants. Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you need to do: Make omega 3 fatty acids part of your daily diet. So much scientific evidence shows that omega 3s are vital to heart health. And there are plenty of good sources to choose from. There’s no good reason not to enjoy omega 3s.
Avatar n tn I eat no red meat, limited chicken and low fat cheese, lots of salmon and other fish, and take Omega-3 fatty acid as a supplement as well. Learning to leave the red and processed meats behind is hard at first, but just like sugar, you eventually lose your taste for it. For me, well prepared salmon or trout beats a rare steak any day.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
529224 tn?1400648219 I take Vytorin, which mixes drugs to control both ingested fats and cholesterol manufactured in the liver. I also take 2000 mg of Omega 3 oils to encourage the development of HDL (good) cholesterol. This mix has helped me greatly.
Avatar f tn My Triglycerides were also very high. I have been on Cholesterol lowering medicine for years, but recently my Triglycerides went up significantly. My doctor suggested taking Omega 3 Fish Oil tablets (1000 mg 2 times per day). In 4 weeks my Triglyceride level went from 254 to 165. Try the ones that guarantee no Fish taste. This works.
Avatar m tn Welcome and thanks for your question! The key to lowering VLDL is to lower your TGLs as it is calculated as 20% of your serum triglycerides. The best way to lower TGLs is to cut back on empty carbs that metabolize as sugar. This includes breads, pasta, sugar filled items and alcohol. Also, processed foods have a high amount of bad fats that will increase your TGLs. Another secret, stay away from sodas as they are high in sugar.
Avatar f tn I have hypothyroidism. I was taking 125mcg Levothyroxine. When I had my TSH levels drawn it was 19 so the doc raised the med to 150mcg and I came back in 6weeks. TSH was 8. He said to keep taking same new dose but skip Sundays because he feared I would have hyperthyroidsim. Two months have past and during that time I began to take 2000mg Omega Fish oil to lower my 240 cholesterol. (I've been on Vytorin 10/20 for years). Abnormal heart rhythm sent me to the emergency room.
Avatar m tn then add daily to your time - always ask your doctor first to be safe Lose weight if you need to Stop smoking if you do Cut out the trans fatty acids - 1) reduce the fat intake to 30 - 35% of the total calories in the diet - but probably no lower than 25% of total calories Avoid Alcohol Increase the monounsaturated fats in your diet - try to eliminate saturated fats and trans fats from the diet, and substitute monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats instead Add soluble fiber to your diet Also

Avatar m tn If the second tests confirm the cholesterol levels, undoubtedly your father will be prescribed a drug like Vytorin which controls dietary and familial cholesterol, and I would bet he will be told to take a high quality fish oil supplement. I take 2000 mg daily of Omega 3 fish oil and it really helped drop the trig level. Exercise daily helps. If dad needs to those some weight, the process of losing weight also brings down cholesterol and trig levels. Keep us informed.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am 21 years old, with no health problems. I have suffered from anxiety in the past, however, I have quit my medication (lexapro) about 8 months ago, and after the first 1-2 months, my anxiety completely disappeared. 8 months ago my heart rate was around 65bpm, and my blood pressure around 135/80. Nowadays, my heart rate is around 80-85bpm resting, and my BP around 145/90.
Avatar n tn Nuts, fish and other foods containing omega-3 fatty acids are other good choices for improving your LDL cholesterol to HDL cholesterol ratio. Drink alcohol only in moderation. In some studies, moderate use of alcohol has been linked with higher levels of HDL cholesterol — but the benefits aren't strong enough to recommend alcohol for anyone who doesn't drink already. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation.
