Avatar f tn t do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL. If you raise HDL, that will be more preventive of future heart disease than lowering LDL unless you're LDL was sky high. Triglycerides are also far worse than LDL because they oxidize instantly; they're found mostly in products with hydrogenated vegetable oils.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
Avatar f tn I have hypothyroidism. I was taking 125mcg Levothyroxine. When I had my TSH levels drawn it was 19 so the doc raised the med to 150mcg and I came back in 6weeks. TSH was 8. He said to keep taking same new dose but skip Sundays because he feared I would have hyperthyroidsim. Two months have past and during that time I began to take 2000mg Omega Fish oil to lower my 240 cholesterol. (I've been on Vytorin 10/20 for years). Abnormal heart rhythm sent me to the emergency room.
Avatar m tn Vitamin C and niacin help in reducing cholesterol safely.Vitamin E and omega 3 are anti coagulants.Do not use refined oils, specially sunflower or safflower.Refined sunflower or safflower oils contain neither vitamin E or omega 3.Hence, they are dangerous unless you take lots of vitamin E and omega 3.Unrefined oils like mustard oil (kachi ghani Dhara brand)or extra virgin olive oil or even groundnut oil or gingelly oil can be used without heating. No oil should be used for cooking.
Avatar m tn niacin is the cheapest sure way to lower cholesterol, and red yeast rice extract. eggs typically should NOT raise cholesterol. what does mostly is too many calories, and flours, white rice, pastries, etc. also calorie dense foods like cheese can do it. too much coke, pop, can do it. clean up any of these if applicable, and try the above nutrients if you desire. i'd see a naturopath for cholesterol myself, if it's a persistent issue.

422924 tn?1331764319 t think you should go any lower on your LDL unless you have heart disease or some major risk factors. Also, your HDL is great as well. You can increase it with Omega 3 fatty acids like fish oil. Also, staying natural with fruits and veggies and staying away from processed foods will help your LDL if you do need to lower it. Overall, I think your numbers are great, nice job!
Avatar m tn so i have started many month ago a diet with omega3, omega 6 and soia lectin which are all known to lower cholesterol, i also have very low meat in my diet since i don't like it. ldl in november was about 218 now it is 150, also trigliceridi fell to 65 (it is the low normal range of both) at the same time i have low hbsag quantity.
Avatar n tn d urge you to continue to try different statins. I tried to get my cholesterol down using natural products, including Omega 3 and ended up with eight stents and two heart attacks, so cholesterol control to me is essential. I still take Omega 3 medication (Lovaza) to help control Triglicerides. I strongly disagree with the earlier post, millions of people take statins with no obvious side effects.

Avatar m tn YOur cholesterol is considered borderline high...meaning that its on the tail end of the normal range scale but still a little too high. That is easily remedied thru diet, exercise or the doc may want to put you on a cholesterol buster just until you get it down a little.
Avatar n tn (My wife is also a nurse) I did some checking around and found out that RED YEAST RICE will lower Cholesterol and Omega-3 fish oil will lower Triglycerides. I bought some CHOLEST FACTORS and fish oil from our GNC store. I stopped taking the statins and started doing the more natural treatment. I was taking six capsules of Cholest factors a day and six 900 mg capsules of omega-3 fish oil a day.
Avatar m tn Oh! I forgot, you would not burp the fish oil if you take the pill each time you eat something or after every meal, I have never had a problem with it.
1655526 tn?1330655629 I know that omega 3 is really supposed to be good for the heart, but I get palps after I take them for 3 days, especially krill oil. I've read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time.

Avatar f tn I've purchased galic and parsley tablets as well as Omega 3-6-9 tablets in the hope of getting my colesterol levels to a normal numbering. But today I read that Omega 6 isn't that good as it could counter the effect of Omega 3 and induce inflammation. Now I"m wondering if I just spent 30$ for nothing. What do you think?
