Avatar m tn How does one evaluate the risk of clot formation without blood thinners versus the risk of bleeding in the brain when on blood thinners? A neurosurgeon told me that blood thinners were definitely out. Is an eventual stroke then my only option?
Avatar f tn I would listen to your cardiologist or internal medicine doctor if they are very familiar with this situation. Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil can both sometimes increase bleeding in patients taking blood thinners like coumadin (warfarin), apirin, and plavix. In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels.
Avatar m tn My Cardiologist agreed to stop both plavix and aspirin 48 hours before, then start 24 hours after. I had no problems.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.

Avatar f tn my friend has a generic blood disorder and must take blood thinners daily. she has developed severe back pain and has been instructed to have an epederal for the pain. the docter chosen to give the epederal will not do so until she has not taken blood thinner medication for 5 days. her family doctor is furious and says she can not lay off the thinners. my question is: why would she need to not take the medication just to have an epederal.
Avatar n tn Those with mitral vale problems and those who have had the valve repelaced are at increased risk of clot formation. Hence, they need to be on blood thinners. With time, most need a change in dose. Normally patients on blood thinners are kept at an international normalized ratio (INR) of 2.0 to 3.0. If the INR is low or near 1.00, this means the blood is pretty thick and likely to cause clot formation.

I hope this helps. In general compassion will help to get someone motivated. If you know someone with circulation issues or diabetes, come along side of them. They usually didn't consciously choose to be that way, and may have emotional issues that are contributing.
Avatar f tn Doing cycle monitoring - blood work and ultrasound. Day 3 I start off with about 6 follicles on EACH side. I did only femera for the first 3 months and was only getting 1 or 2 mature. After 3 months decided to introduce GONAL F with femera. I responded well for my age I think. At ovulation producing 6 mature follicles (I had one bad month where I only produced 3 or 4). Nurse says when she looks at my monthly charts, she wouldn't know she is looking at the results of a 43 year old.

I was diagnosed with paroxysmal afib exactly 2 years ago and I'm extremely symptomatic when in afib. I've been somewhat controlled on Flecainide up until a few months ago.
