4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
Avatar m tn Others argue that too much fatty fish might be a problem not because of the Omega 3 oils but the contaminants that have gotten into our fatty fish (you can avoid some of this by taking a reliable supplement, but unfortunately we have to rely on company reputation for this as nobody is doing much checking out there). And with flax, is there a difference between organically grown and that grown with carcinogenic chemical applications? Between farm raised fish and wild fish?
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
907968 tn?1292622204 peanuts are a fantastic food, but in actual fact, peanuts are not really nuts. I believe they are a member of the pea/bean family. I don't think they contain omega-3 but they contain a high level of omega-6 which is the lower of the omega's in fish but more important for blood vessels. There has been lots of research on peanuts and results have shown that they greatly reduce the risk of cardiac disease. They have other benefits too, it has been shown they reduce the risk of colon cancer.
Avatar m tn , a large producer of nuts and nut products, had put some information on its website about the health benefits of walnuts (which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids).
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
Avatar f tn You should be taking omega 3 in any case. Statins, by lowering cholesterol, also interfere with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients, which of course includes omega 3. The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL.
Avatar f tn any thing with Omega-3 in it
Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
Avatar n tn We know that omega-3 fatty acids lower levels of triglycerides, a type of fat in the bloodstream. Experts are not exactly sure how. Omega-3 fatty acids may also slow down the growth of plaques inthe arteries and prevent blood clots. There are a number of small studies that show that walnuts help lower cholesterol. One 2004 study of 58 adults with diabetes looked at the effects of eating a handful of walnuts each day in addition to a healthy diet.
Avatar m tn Eating foods rich in the good omega fatty acids, such as omega 3 is good for your blood vessels also.... things like freshwater fish, flaxseed meal, walnuts, macadamias, almonds, and pumpkin seeds.
Avatar n tn I source my supply, buy them in bulk and keep the walnuts in the freezer, except for a jarful or so, which I keep in the fridge. The one problem with them is that when they're good, I can't stop eating them. I'm not sure why you're associating your weight loss with HCV. Did your doctor say there's a connection? I would think unexplained weight loss is more likely from a different underlying condition. Have you checked your thyroid?
907968 tn?1292622204 I eat lots of chocolate every day, cheese, drink full fat milk, and have 3 sugars in every cup of tea of which I drink lots. I guess I'm just lucky with the way statins do all the work for me. The only thing I dont eat is red meat, Ive never really liked red meat anyway. I have such a sweet tooth, that's my problem, I'm surprised I don't overload my pancreas. I love my cakes and sweet buns/ biscuits (cookies).
1655526 tn?1330655629 ve read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time. Now I don't dare take it even after my ablation for SVT because I don't want the other arrythmias.
Avatar m tn The role of fats in heart disease is an evolving opinion, but certainly most research hospitals suggest polyunsaturated fats are much healthier and in fact a necessary component to most people's diet. Omega 3 and 6 fish oils, for example, are prescribed universally to people with Cardiac Artery Disease, and fish oil is certainly a Poly oil. I haven't a clue about cashews, I'm a Hazelnut (Filbert) fan myself. They are delicious in salads.
Avatar m tn Researchers at Tufts University in Boston wanted to examine the effects of walnuts a nut rich in omega-3s on the accumulation of polyubiquitinated proteins in the brain. This substance is the hallmark of many age-related neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, and it accumulates in our brains as we age. In this study, researchers used 45 male rats, aged 19 months, and divided them equally into three diet groups. control, 6 percent walnut and 9 percent walnut.
Avatar f tn t like salmon, sardines or trout, walnuts, hazelnuts or cashews are good alternatives. Omega-3 supplements are also available in capsule form. Many are of high quality, but less expensive supplements may be ineffective and contain contaminants. Avoid choosing your supplements based on price alone. Avoid coffee and sugar-laden soft drinks that can cause nervousness and interfere with the ability to focus.
Avatar f tn The omega-3 fatty acids should be in your prenatal.
1282285 tn?1271424395 I also eat macadamia nuts (crushed because of soft diet restriction with the jaw arthritis), which are high in omega fatty acids and taste great too! Other foods that have those inflammation-fighting, mood lifting omega fatty acid suggestions if you like them: walnuts, pumpkin seeds, freshwater fish, like salmon, tuna (and I think sardines), and even flaxseed meal you can add to pancakes and cookies. Physical therapy is a very good idea...
Avatar n tn Mix turmeric powder(haldi), Fenugreek powder(Methi) and ginger powder in equal quantities and keep in a bottle. Take one teaspoon of this mixed powder in hot water twice a day.
296340 tn?1336164001 Nuts and seeds, including almonds, walnuts and pumpkin seeds, are a great source of fatty acids. Omega 3 and omega fatty acids are hormone regulators and vital to a woman’s fertility since a hormonal imbalance can interfere with ovulation. Cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower, contain Vitamin A as well as a substance called di-indolylmethane, which regulates the metabolism of estrogen that is essential for keeping fertility hormones in check.
