nuvaring and weight gain side effects

I was on the pill for years and came off of it to get an IUD which I got taken out after 8 months and started the Nuvaring. Coming off of the pill I LOST weight and felt better than ever... almost complete opposite...

I heard pretty good things about that, my ex gf was also on nuvaring and had little to none side effects.

Because it is absorbed vaginally and does not pass through the stomach, it has fewer side effects than birth control pills. There is typically not much weight gain--maybe 3-5 lbs of water weight + whatever the patient overeats and under-exercises. The only two complaints that I have had are that it falls out sometimes, and there can be some vaginal discharge associated with it. Hope this is helpful!

I was not gaining weight on the scale and had recently lost weight before this. I have been watching it and noticed that it is getting worse. I also bloat even more after eating. My fingers swell and fluctuate in size. For a few months, I have also had lower back pain that feels musculature but I can't figure out the cause other than changing hormones. It sometimes radiates down one leg or the other. This seems to be improving though.

I've really never done birth control long term but I know i really need to find something that works for me. My fiance wants to have a baby soon after the little one we have coming in February so I have to pee proactive about family planning lol. I'm nervous that it'll make me gain weight. I'm thinking I'll try the pill since I'm leary of implants and things have to put inserted by a doctor. Has anyone had experiences with the pill and the side effects?

I've been looking into an IUD, never had the patch personally (was afraid it'd fall off or something) but I know I wouldn't recommend the implanon/nexplanon implant or Nuvaring, the implant causes crazy side effects and Nuvaring doesn't stay in for anything!

Then about 18 months in, several side effects started kickin in, i gained 26 lbs and it caused a painful lump in my left breast. after 2 yrs i had to take it out.. before my dr. could take it out, i had to get an ultrasound done cause she couldnt find the string to take it out. luckily she got it without any crazy procedures.. keep in mind that everyone is diferent and you may not have any or the same side effects. i have 2 cousins that hace had the mirena for 3 yrs and they both love it..

You need to look at the full potential for side effects as well as potential complications that can be caused by BC. (For example Depo can cause bone loss) Any hormonal BC can cause weight gain, among several other side effects. The only BC that doesn't is Paragard because its nonhormonal.

Hi there, I am a 29 year old female - and about 7 months ago I stopped using Nuvaring. I already had a bit of adult acne and some weight gain before I stopped, but after I stopped the acne went a little crazy - on the lower half of my face and my neck. It has also been a bit over 6 months since I've had a period, which is beginning to freak me out.

I was on NuvaRing..I had no side effects. Since I was irregular I liked it because you know when to expect your period. I chose to stop using it I didnt get pregnant on it so it works.

I couldve sworn that I replied to this (maybe it didn't go thru) The IUD CAN cause scarring and sometimes make it hard to conceive children later on. My OBGYN wouldn't put one in (I wanted the copper one but mirena can cause problems too) because I had a csection and he said there was a pretty big risk to me of porforation where it goes thru the scar tissue into the abdomen.

In women with inherited defects of lipid metabolism, there have been reports of significant elevations of plasma triglycerides during estrogen therapy. This has led to pancreatitis in some cases. I stopped using the Nuvaring immediately. Never during that whole time I was in the hospital or months afterwards did any doctor link the pancreatitis to the NuvaRing. I remember having bleeding in the hospital a week early even though the ring was still in.

I had a follow up last week to get my thyroid levels checked (I have them checked every 6 months) My T3 level had almost bottomed out since my January appt. The doc said most of the weight gain was water weight and suggested a diuretic. So he tweeked my thyroid meds and I researched natural diuretic because I don't want to take the prescription stuff. I have lost about a pound a day mostly thru drinking green tea and coffee (I didn't have any caffeine intake before this).

The other meds I am taking should not effect my weight. I've been on them for over a year with no problems. And most of them don't have weight gain as part of their side effects. Yes, my thyroid has been checked out . Actually my hypothyroidism was diagnosed months before I start the weight gain. I've had all the tests you can imagine. The last one left is checking my cortisol level. I should those test results back next week.

The birth control pill is nice. You can take it so that you only have a period every four months (discuss with your gynecologist). I find it works well for me (I'm on Microgestin, but there are several out there and your gynecologist will decide what works best for your needs). I had heavy, 7-day-long periods with several clots, nausea, severe cramping, and severe lower back pain before going on the pill but now have light to moderate 2-3 day long periods with few clots if any.

How long do the side effect last?? And is weight gain a common side effect? My doctor swore black and blue that she had never come across a person who gained weight, and that it was more common to loose it on effexor. I'm a recovering bulimic so weight gain is a very scary thing for me, i wish it wasnt but it is..

I have been on other hormonal BC and have gained weight. I was on Mirena and did'nt gain weight, but i had some other bad side effects. By the way two of my sister-in-laws have mirena IUD and have not gained weight for the almost five years it has been in. Good luck, but research it good. I know it works really well for a lot of people it just did'nt for me.

s virtually nothing that helps stop weight gain from antidepressants except stopping them, but if this is working well for you, and you really need meds, it's not easy to find ones that work well. There is a book that discusses this called The AntiDepressant Survival Guide.

2/ Is it common to GAIN weight while taking Synthroid? My doctor recently switched me to Bystolic - and I was given "samples" for a month but no instruction sheet or counter-indications as far as drug interaction. Would there be any problem with the above that I am taking and this drug? Also, I just lost (and want to continue to lose weight) 16 pounds on a diet program and don't want to regain that weight! Does Bystolic cause weight gain?

I just wondered why you chose to post here on a thyroid forum? Do you possibly have a problem with hypothyroidism that causes low metabolism and weight gain?

ve had it between all 3 of my kids and I loved it no remembering anything and the only side effect I had was a lighter shorter period.

I used it for about 3yrs after i had my daughter, it was ok for me since i couldnt remember to take a pill everyday the only side effect i had was weight gain I went from a size 7 to a 13. I stopped taking it after I got married and my period only came once every 2 months for a yr which sucked since we were trying to start our family.
