Novolog and novorapid

Common Questions and Answers about Novolog and novorapid

novolog

Avatar n tn I just looked up Novorapid and see it is the same thing as Novolog which I'm more familiar with. That IS a bolus insulin and so that is what she should have before her meals. But a set dose doesn't work nearly as well as a dose determined by counting carbs. Also, it makes absolutely no sense that she takes fast acting insulin for breakfast and dinner but not lunch and even snacks if they include significant carbs. Without it she will be inevitably high after those meals. See an endo!
Avatar n tn My daughter seems to be having the same problem. She's 15 and takes 68 u of lantus at nite and supliments w/novolog pen when she's eating. They just keep increasing her dosage, but nothing seems to change. She eats pretty decently (for a teen), but she always seems to be high. I also wondered if she might be resistent to the lantus. We've tried new bottles, etc. How many units do you take per day?
Avatar f tn My partner is diabetic and he is on novorapid and tresiba we was wondering are you able to take them one after another?
704262 tn?1247674638 I take Novolog and Lantus insulin in the pen forms. I just started taking them like this about 6 weeks ago. I really like them!!! I take the Novolog 5 units in the morning and 5 units in the evenings, with meals. I also use a sliding scale with it. The Lantus I take just before bedtime. Right now, I'm at 25 units, from 45 units 3 weeks ago!!! I've found that when I take both just before bed, my morning fasting blood sugars are really low...like below 80.
Avatar f tn I have been using Novolog insulin for a month now and will run out before I can get my next supply. I do have some Humulin R on hand. Can I substitute that for 2 days?
Avatar n tn I have been looking into purchasing NOVOLOG (called NOVORAPID in Canada). I have found one pharmacy that sells it for $39.99 per 10ml vial (compared to $62.59 per 10ml vial at my local pharmacy in the U.S.). The Express Shipping charge is $14 (for your TOTAL order, not each item), and if I buy 6 vials at a time, I will save $121.60 (even with the shipping charge). Also, did I mention that NOVOLOG (NOVORAPID in Canada) does NOT require a prescription in Canada!
Avatar n tn I had a job prior where I was in a group plan, I got laid off awhile ago and used my full 18 months of Cobra, but then that ran out. Now I'm using Consumers Choice, which isn't really insurance, but a discount program. So, far there coverage on prescription drugs(non-diabetic) have actually been better than I thought. But, as most people know, insurance companies & pre-existing conditions don't mix well.
12861759 tn?1432917955 I am currently using Lantus and Novolog. Drs. advice is to start with 40 units of Lantus and up it 2 units every third day until I get a fasting BG of less then 130. Is it more important to get to my Lantus goal on a consistant basis before I try to adjust my Novolog?
Avatar n tn I am a type 1 diabetic and I have been using Novolog for the past three years. For the first year I was using it by shots, but the last two years I have been using it in an insulin pump. In the last three to four months I have developed intense itching at the infusion site when I change it. For about 36 hours it itches so much I have scratched it to bleeding. In the last few weeks it has begun itching almost as soon as I put in a new canula.
209227 tn?1242346745 Is there a difference between Humalog and Novolog insulins? I was told there are exactly the same. But is this true?
Avatar n tn Hi, I switched from Humalog to Novolog in my pump a coupla years ago and am *delighted* with the results. Novolog seems to be more predictable and is more stable for the 3-4 days it's in my pump. Can you work with your doctor to try a different pen? The novolog pen holds 300 units, right? I tried a Novolog Jr pen a while back (thinking I might like it instead of syringes for my low-tech backup) which holds fewer units and allows 1/2 unit increments.
Avatar f tn Novolog is before meals And Lantus is before bed or late in the evening.
Avatar m tn Normally your care provider would have provided you with instructions. Didn't instructional paperwork accompany the pen? Contact your care provider for the proper amount [units] designated for you. Then Google search "how to use novolog flex pen" [w/o the " " [quotes]], scroll down and click the link to [PDF] NovoLog Flex Pen. You'll need a .pdf reader to read it. If you don't have one, go to Adobe and download and install the free pdf file reader.
Avatar n tn I use a short-acting insulin, Novolog, and a 24-period insulin, Lantis. I give Novolog with each meal, and Lantus when I go to bed. I am having troubles with my sugars in the morning. I wake up at 7am, and eat breakfast. I give my shot immediately after eating breakfast, around 7:20. I test my sugar before I eat breakfast and it is normally good. Then at 8am, I head to school. When I arrive at school around 9am, I test my sugar, which is usually pretty high (200-300).
Avatar n tn My father was recently discharged from a nursing home and he takes 2 different kinds of insulin. Novolog 70/30 and Novolog Aspart (Sliding Scale). I've heard about sliding scale before but when i brought it up to his pharmacist she did not know much about it (got me concerned). I found this one sliding scale online, listings of how much units to give depending on what his blood sugar level is.
Avatar m tn My niece takes NovoLog / Novo Rapid by pump and coming to visit me in Kenya but her plane was cancelled and her insulin supply has reached room temperature. I live in Kenya and cannot find any supply of NovoLog there is only Humulin R. I need help to know if this is accceptable please!!!
Avatar n tn If you use insulin to eat what you want and use insulin to cover over eating you will gain weight.
Avatar n tn After six month of roller coaster, my doctor put me on Novolog. When I started using Novolog, with in two hours of eating my blood sugar gets back to normal range. I can sense better if my blood sugar level starts to drop below 60.
Avatar m tn I am a type one and have been on novalog for 5 years. For the last 6 months sometime my novolog works and sometimes it don't. For example tonight four hours after meal I was at 280 so I tryed to correct with 5 units of novolog. Normally this should have brought my numbers down but, tonight and here laity 3 hours later i was still at 259...It's like i never tryed to correct.
Avatar f tn In the past I was put on Novolin NPH (28 units morn and 28 at bedtime) and I was taking 7 units of reg with each meal. Well, I recently changed drs and the new dr put me on Novolog pen 70/30-I am at 18 units ever 12 hours and it is not lowering blood sugar readings at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched.
Avatar m tn Im type 1 and on novorapid and levimere.Im new to the carb counting.Over the last few months ive lost weight although ive never being big.My doctor recently said i need to get my head around the carb counting a little better as the hba1c is high. Can anybody tell me the best way of putting back on weight??
Avatar f tn Yesterday I went to the doctor and he told I must use levemir and novorapid and check my BS several times during the day. As the time passes the diabetes is getting more difficult, its what he also told me. I live in Peru, here there's not enough aid and information on using insulin for the diabetics people.
Avatar n tn JackieJo, As you may know, we're not physicians here. While we have considerable personal experience with diabetes, we don't know you or your particulars, so it will be very important for you to meet with a doctor or a certified diabetes educator (CDE) to tailor your transition. As a start, I'd recommend you check in with your local JDRF chapter or branch. They sponsor this Forum and have physical offices all over the US and in several other countries.
Avatar n tn 12. He goes to school all day, and sometimes gets hungry and I am wondering if it is necessary always for him to take insuling even for snacks? Any ideas/input would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn m on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar n tn The diabetes nurse agreed to a Novolog trial, and we have not had a problem with his site since (4 weeks and counting). I am still changing every 2 days, to be on the safe side. The new insulin seems to work faster, so he doesn't go as high after meals either. We couldn't be more pleased, nor more grateful for the suggestion. Thank you!
