Norvasc heart failure

Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc heart failure

norvasc

Avatar f tn ve heard there is a problem with the two drugs together causing heart failure. Is that really happening? Please my mother will stop Norvasc unneccassarily if I can't find out the real information about this. She is limited on drug options so this is important. Thanks so very much.
Avatar n tn 80 year old woman with hypertension , heart failure, borderline diabetes, history of arrhythmia , thyroid removed, arthritis . Complains of severe back pain, numbness in hands and feet, unsteady on feet (needs walker), incontinence, signs of dementia. My Question: Seemed better on previous medication regime: Norvasc, Lanoxin, Spironolactone, Levothyroxine. Worse on current medication regime: Metoprolol, Benazepril, Isorb Mono Tab, Spironolactone, Simvastatin, Levothyroxine.
1243333 tn?1296446902 Why are you on spironolactone? Do you have heart failure? Also, since you are requiring multiple blood pressure agents and still have a very elevated blood pressure, you should really be evaluated for renal artery stenosis (blockages in your kidney arteries) because this is a reason for elevated blood pressure requiring many agents and once you have bockages in one vascular bed (heart arteries), you are at risk for having atherosclerosis in other vascular beds such as the kidneys.
Avatar n tn I also have migraines which they feel are causing the arterial heart spasms. I had a heart catherization and my heart is healthy. I just have occasionally high blood pressure. Believe me I am as confused as you. That is why I am asking if it is okay to take Topamax for my migraines and Norvasc and Cardizem for my heart. I haven't spoke with a pharmacist as of yet. I will pick up the Norvasc today.
Avatar f tn I am in trouble. I was diagnosed with heart failure and cardiomyapathy with an EF of 30-35% secondary to chronic high blood pressure. I am allergic to ace inhibitors they gave me angioedema. I am allergic to BB they gave me stroke symptoms. I am an African American and the doctor said he wanted to try Bidil. I checked this whole forum there is not one post on Bidil. Anybody used Bidil for CHF with success? I am also on hctz and Norvasc for the blood pressure.
Avatar n tn I suffered with angina for several years. Recently, I had angina that would wake me out of a dead sleep. It was diagnosed as vasospasms. I was put on Norvasc a month ago. I haven't has any angina, stable or variant. Norvasc works great for me. I have some swelling and slight dizziness with the Novasc, but the benefits far out weigh the side effects.
Avatar n tn The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers. However, in some cases of spastic angina, beta-blockers may be harmful.
Avatar f tn 5mg which I am reluctant to take because of reading that in combination with a beta blocker it can cause heart failure. I also have slight LVH. Today I received the following report after wearing a 30 day event monitor: "Underyling sinus rhythm and sinus arrhythmia throughout, with symptomatic episodes associated with sinus bradycardia, PVCs, and sinus tachycardia. No high grade atrial or ventricular tachyarrhythmia and no heart block noted. Heart rate ranges were normal for age.
Avatar n tn I tried taking Cardizem and had to stop. I had been given Cardizem instead of Norvasc for heart spasms. It was the long lasting Cardizem. I suffered through 12 hours of awful chest pains. I went back to the Norvasc. It just works better for me.
Avatar f tn 1mg 2 x day. However, the Norvasc is not working after 12 hrs. My B/P is 150/113 12 hrs after taking the norvasc. Can I take a clonidine .1 mg along with the norvasc?
Avatar f tn P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc. Is there any other calcium blocker that doesn't cause swelling?
2095551 tn?1333122531 Is there any other drug out there that will work the same way to open up small blood vessels like Norvasc but wont have the "bad swelling of legs and feet?" Anyone, please me know know, looking forward to hearing from you...
Avatar m tn and its at fine at home it should be ok? should i get any tests or heart tets done to make sure my heart is ok ...or blood work or to see if my kidneys are ok, are there other ways of seeing why i have HIGH bp other then it being from my dads side.
Avatar n tn m also taking Norvasc. Should these medications be taken together? The Norvasc was prescribed a number of years ago by a different doctor for Migraine prevention. It hasn't helped my migraines but I've continued to take it. Since they are both blood pressure meds, I'm doubtful I should take both.
Avatar f tn It was decided to add Norvasc 5mg INSTEAD of Nifedipine, since Norvasc was used/tolerated well in the past. Began taking Norvasc 5mg along with Lorsartan 100mg and Atenolol 25mg (all 1x daily) approximately 3 days ago, and the blood pressure is still running extremely high. This morning reading was 186/85 and tonight 176/110!!! Worried that this can be dangerous. What should be done? How long until the BP goes to a "normal" range? Does the doctor need to increase the Norvasc dosage?
Avatar n tn I am a 52 year old woman and have heart problems for at least 10 years. I was rushed to the hospital countless times and when EKG’s were done nothing would show. After a few times they started to show some change so my PCP called it stress and put me on xanax. It only got worse. I met and found a friend who is a cardiovascular doctor and started to see him. The countless EKG’s stress test, halter monitors, nuclear stress test would also show nothing.
Avatar f tn I just got out of the hospital after an episode of severe chest pains, dizziness, and pain down my arms and into my neck. I had a series of tests. several ekg's x-rays, an echo, a treadmill stress test, and an angio. the stress test was abnormal. the ekgs are showing PVC's, and the angio was normal. the cardiologist is thinking that it is the endothelials that are causing the pain. they put me o n 5 mg of norvasc, and zocor because they found my ldl's were 180.
Avatar m tn My 84 year old wife with Parkinson's and congestive heart failure has extremely labile blood pressure. She can have a systolic bp of 84 which leads to fainting and an hour later a systolic of 150!. Her bp meds are Norvasc, 5 mg, 1/day, Coreg, 40 mg, 1/day; Enalapril, 20 mg, 2/day. She has had 4 fainting episodes in the past 15 months and has been very lucky that she has not seriously hurt herself as she fell.
Avatar f tn My mother is diagnose with unstable angina a month a ago and the doctor asked us to monitor her blood pressure since she is discharged from the hospital her blood pressure is always normal but there are sometimes that her bp is 100/50 and last day her bp is 120/40 she is 71 years old and taking medications such as norvasc. lipitor, aspirin, imdur or ISMN and losartan. Please help me is it normal for her age? Thank you...
9043033 tn?1401346653 Although I'm on Norvasc, Metoprolol, Clonodine my B/P is never in the normal range. Lately it's been running around 240/120 most all the time, especially in the evenings and nighttime. I had a stroke in 2006 and have been on Lasix 80mg. 3 times a day, Demedex 20mg. 2 times a day. My dr. doesn't give me a reason for having to be on such high doses of diuretics or reasons for my B/P being so high although I'm on all those B/P meds.
Avatar f tn Sexual activity is not recommended in patients with heart failure, unstable angina, recent heart attacks, abnormal heart rates and changes in blood pressure levels. Sildenafil exerts systemic vasodilating action causing a lowering of blood pressure. This effect is not clinically significant and does not cause any complaints in most of the patients.
Avatar f tn I had infectious endocarditis (symptoms mimicked congestive heart failure) at 47 at MVP which has since calcified and since unknown source, had major anitbiotics covering every possibility for 2 months through a PIC line (vanc, gent, and 2 others) which resulted in kidney failure and creatinine now close to normal. Yesterday upon waking, I felt extremely weak, nauseated, and faint, vomited bile and had to lie on floor to keep from passing out.
Avatar f tn My father passed away from a heart attack at 44 yrs old. I have always had anxiety issues with occasional full blown panic attacks. Anyway over the last six months my flutters became worse and have gained alot of weight. I have been on ziac (beta blocker) for high blood pressure and flutters since my late 20"s and xanax for my daily anxiety. I finally decided to go to a cardiologist and he did a echo, ekg and holter for 3 weeks.
Avatar n tn In march my husband had a stent put in below his heart, everything fine dr put him on effient. June he had a stroke, they gave him clot busting meds, he had a stent put in his cariod artery, all ultra sounds of heart and neck are good, went to nuero and cardiologist in aug. My concern every am when he first gets up he takes his bp before he takes his am meds and its always high, then after meds it drops down. What causes this? The am 170/110 then 1 hour later 120/76.
Avatar n tn my sister had open heart surgery.they had to replace one of the main values.butsince she has had the operation her legs swell up.what causes that.
Avatar f tn I had occasional tachycardia from anxiety before becoming pregnant. During the last 4 months of pregnancy my resting pulse stayed between 90-120 bpm, but I did not have hypertension until the last couple of weeks and it was only 144/85 and 135/91. In the couple of days after giving birth I got a UTI at the hospital and my blood pressure rose to 155/106. I was watched for postpartum pre-eclampsia a few days and released only to be admitted to a closer hospital that evening with a bp of 166/115.
Avatar m tn I had a mild heart attack in 2005 and was told when they did a heart cath that there are no blockages and that my MI was probably due to coronary spasm. I have been hospitalized repeatedly since the heart attack and have tried all the usual medications such as verapamil, cardizem, imdur, metoprolol, lisinopril, norvasc and magnesium. I do not tolerate cardizem or imdur well. The angina was not controlled until they started me on Ranexa last year because the pain was constant and severe.
214864 tn?1229715239 My question is, can I find a CCB that can take the place of a beta blocker that will slow my heart rate down? I already take Norvasc, a CCB to try to reverse diastolic dysfunction. My LVEDP is 27 mmhg. I am currently taking 20 mg of Coreg CR (controlled released), an ACEi, Plavix, Zocor (intermittently due to adverse reactions, same as with all statins) and Norvasc.
