572651 tn?1530999357 I have nitroquik - sublingual nitroglycerin - to take if I have angina pains - this morning about 5 am I was miserable and couldn't tell if it was heart or ms symptoms and I took one. As always it stopped my discomfort, depressed my already low blood pressure and I went to sleep for about 3 hours. I've used nitroquik for the past 3 months or so and it always stops the pain and gives me relief within minutes.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for response. Just for the record, I am not taking Viagra and nitrates at the same time. This is just a one time deal where I got off the nitrates for 48 hours so I can use viagra for sex. I haven't use the nitrates or viagra for a few day and yes, you are correct i have to change my lifestule. I'm 47, my weight is 255 lbs and I don't eat meat. I have to start exercising regularly. You are absolutely correct.
Avatar m tn Since I use Nitro patches regularly I would be grateful to obtain the references for the studies you mentioned about the effects of Vit C in decreasing the developing tolerance of continuous nitroglycerin use.
Avatar m tn m a heart patient myself, but no nitroglycerin for me.
1098952 tn?1270309713 and no standard plan of treatment. Furthermore, the treatment rationale for HCM can actually counter the rationale used to treat the same suite of symptoms in a patient who does not have HCM. For instance, many HCM patients have chest pain and shortness of breath—a common symptom of coronary artery disease that is treated with nitroglycerin.
Avatar n tn The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers.
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
Avatar n tn I took your advice and had the heart catheterization. The doctor said the left heart was okay but found a narrowing in the right heart which caused coronary spasms during the test. IV nitroglycerin during the test stopped the spasms and dilated the vessel. He did not mention any other problems and recommended sublingual nitroglycerin to treat the spasms as they occur.
Avatar m tn Does any good specialist in cardiology think that my husband should have the open heart surgery for bypasses considering the risks regarding his age, his diabetes? I would appreciate very explanatory answers, easy to understand, what to do in my husband's situation. Thankyou.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your input...my bp is slowly dropping now, so I guess the nitro is finally kicking in.
805943 tn?1238093647 Nitro can help some forms of esophageal spasm. Nitroglycerin is used with esophageal spasms (GERD). It is the one non heart related illness that nitroglycerin works in. However, that doesn't rule out a concomitant heart condition. Nitroglycerin is a vasodilator not only for your heart vessels but for the vascular system which then subsquently lowers your blood pressure. It even dilates the vessels in the brain which then usually gives the side effect of the headache also.
Avatar n tn You should talk to your doctor as you may be a good candidate for a low dose nitroglycerin patch which opens the coronary vessels to increase oxygen supply to the heart. How are you currently managing your COPD? What medications and inhalers are you using? are you on home O2?
Avatar n tn To this day I have no definitive answer as to the cause of my pains, but they seem to have subsided for the past 6-7 months. Try the nitro and see if it helps. My guess is that it won't help indigestion, but would if it was due to vasospasm or other cardiac cause. It's a less expensive way of checking what affects your symptoms.
Avatar f tn When should a person go to the ER for high blood pressure. I've been having a pounding head ache, face has been flushed, etc for over three days. I used to have to take high blood pressure medicine but I was running, loosing weight and my need for the medication was done. I've recently gained weight and haven't run in about 3 months. My blood pressure is 150 over 95. When do I just wait to go see my regular doctor and when do I go to the ER?
Avatar f tn I am 53 female w/SLE, systemic lupus for almost 10 years. Barrett's esophagus, GERD, gastic paralysis, fibromyalgi, chronic fatigue, Sicca syndrome, list goes on.....This is something new...sudden very severe shooting pain going up right side of neck, carotid area, sometimes into ear, but not always. Relieved with nitroglycerin. Any guesses as to what this could be?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed the same things. This all just happened within the last week for me. The Cardiologist said that mine is like a 6% chance of having a heart attack right now. So, I'm assuming yours is 15%. I'm hesitant on taking the Amlodipine because it lowers blood pressure and mine is already low. As far as drinking, I wouldn't advise it especially with the Isosorbide, that is basically Nitroglycerin in a daily form. I'm not a Doctor but I hope this helps you! Good luck.
Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor but I learned a lot when my own Dad went through 4 heart attacks. In one way he was fortunate because his heart attacks were considered mild, only little bits of damage to the heart each time. But in the end he still ended up with congestive heart failure. Not an easy way to live. Plus he never changed his lifestyle, still ate terrible food and smoked and rebelled against taking the medications the doctors prescribed.
Avatar m tn What would happen if you rubbed pure nitroglycerin on your skin? I'd like to know the symptoms on and below the skin. I know that nitroglycerin is used for anginas, but I also know that it's generally mixed with something else, so I'm curious about how well pure nitroglycerin would work and what it would do. And if you had a vial of pure nitroglycerin, what could you mix it with to be able to use it as ointment?
Avatar m tn she failed the stress test and was referred for angiogram the same day. She had multiple blockages at 90%, and was admitted to the hospital. She stayed in the hospital for 4 days, due to the doctors where afraid to release her home. She had a double bypass (left descending coronary artery and left circumflex coronary artery). She healed well, but 2 weeks ago while at home she experienced chest pain. She went by ambulance to the hospital.
Avatar n tn what is the chance of heart attack if the chest pain continue due to coronary artery spasm? can the use if ephedrine cause coronary artery spasm?
Avatar m tn m a 45 year old otherwise healthy male and have moderate restrictive lung disease that is more or less stable for the past 8 years. The reason I saw this cardiologist was the recurring chest pain that I was having (not because of shortness of breath as he indicates here!). The pain is still there together with light headedness and goes away if I take nitroglycerin (thought I know that nitroglycerin would relieve essentially any kind of chest pain).
Avatar n tn Pain in the upper back can be a symptom of heart disease. The possibility is more because this pain is getting relieved by nitroglycerin. I would suggest you to consult your doctor as soon as possible about it and get yourself evaluated. Take care!
Avatar f tn m havin palpitations. I am on Betaloc 50 mg for the last 2 years. My symptoms are Chest pains which radiates to the left arm, feel dizziness and is always tired after small exertion.I am always on Low BP. My echo measureents are ; LVEDD 43 mm, LVESD 28 mm, LVEF 68%, IVS= 8m, PWT = 7mm, AOV 20 mm, LA = 26 mm. Avatar m tn I have had several fingers freeze up and not want to come out of the attacks for hours and that causes the nail splentors and i even had a bad infection in one finger. I was sent to a rhumotologist to be dianosed with CREST. Sorry about the spelling! I started the nitro glycerin patches about 3 weeks ago at 0.1 dose and stayed on that for 3 weeks and now i'm on the next step up 0.
Avatar n tn Is it typical to have intermittent chest pain for the last two weeks since having my proximal LAD stented (coated stent)? I have resorted to nitroglycerin several times with mixed results. Today, I had some lightheadedness and shortness of breath with the chest pain, but a couple of hours later, and 3-4 sprays of nitro it is resolved.
Avatar n tn I am scheduled for a thallium stress test, and would like to know how the use of viagra or nitro prior to the test would influance the results.
