Avatar f tn My son has struggled with severe rectal pain for almost 3 years. We have taken him to several drs. and specialists and they are not finding out what is wrong with him. He has been to Dr. Peaster, Bartlesville, OK , urologist and Dr. Roeder, GI spec. in Topeka, KS. Nothing is showing up with all the procedures. Last week we had to take him to the emergency room due to the problem. Blood work indicated Myco. Plas Pneumonia, and elevated liver enzymes. We have him scheduled to see a Dr.

As always it stopped my discomfort, depressed my already low blood pressure and I went to sleep for about 3 hours. I've used nitroquik for the past 3 months or so and it always stops the pain and gives me relief within minutes.
Avatar n tn I was diagnose with clogged arteries over a year ago. I even had a stent put in because one of my arteries was ecluded. I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low.

Avatar m tn The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal. My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low.
Avatar f tn //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anal_fissure and http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/anal-fissure/DS00762 'Symptoms of external hemorrhoids may include painful swelling or a hard lump around the anus that results when a blood clot forms. In addition, excessive straining, rubbing, or cleaning around the anus may cause irritation with bleeding and/or itching, which may produce a vicious cycle of symptoms.
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
Avatar m tn Nitrate Medications for heart disease - The combination of vitamin C with nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, or isosorbide mononitrate reduces the occurrence of nitrate tolerance. Nitrate tolerance is when the body builds up a tolerance to the medicine so that it no longer has its desired effect. People taking nitrate-containing medications generally follow a 12 hours on, 12 hours off schedule to avoid this tolerance.
1098952 tn?1270309713 Furthermore, the treatment rationale for HCM can actually counter the rationale used to treat the same suite of symptoms in a patient who does not have HCM. For instance, many HCM patients have chest pain and shortness of breath—a common symptom of coronary artery disease that is treated with nitroglycerin. If a person with HCM were to take nitroglycerin, the symptoms would worsen and the nitroglycerin could even cause a catastrophic deterioration in the person's condition".
Avatar f tn m curious to know what your rectal pain feels like in detail BAM. Mine is a dull ache that is with me 24/7 with knife like pain upon some bm's alhough not as bad as it was prior to my first surgery. Sometimes the pressure in the rectal area spreads to the vaginal area. I also get pain in my symphysis pubis still that somtimes feels like a pulling sensation. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar n tn A fissure can cause you pain or it could be a rectal spasm. I had both and the pain persisted for almost a year. The spasms would knock me down for the count but happened only a few times a week. Doc perscribed vallium which seemed to do the trick. Warm baths helped also.
Avatar n tn Now I continue to have fatigue, shortness of breath, sleeplessness and chest pain. I wake every morning (for 2 weeks) with a headache above the eyebrows. Do I need further heart evaluation as my EKG and stress test showed normal?
Avatar m tn What would happen if you rubbed pure nitroglycerin on your skin? I'd like to know the symptoms on and below the skin. I know that nitroglycerin is used for anginas, but I also know that it's generally mixed with something else, so I'm curious about how well pure nitroglycerin would work and what it would do. And if you had a vial of pure nitroglycerin, what could you mix it with to be able to use it as ointment?
Avatar n tn I have had a fissure for six years and fistula as a result for over a year, I just recently had surgery. It took doctors years to see it, but the pain was a daily 10!!! I'd have to pull over on the road sometimes to put cream on because it would randomly sting with vengeance!!! Most docs looked and said it was nothing, not worth surgery, even though I said the pain was a 10! Finally I talked to an intelligent Colo-rectal doc who said it depends on the person.
Avatar n tn The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers.
Avatar m tn Now, she is back in the hospital due to chest pain again. The doctors say there is nothing they can do for her and that everything looks good and she will have to live with the pain. The doctors just did an ECG and say all is good. Is this possible? She is on constant Nitroglycerin and Morphine prn. Should she get a second opinion? What other procedures could she have done to take away this pain? She says the pain is getting more frequent and stronger. Thank you for your responses.
Avatar f tn I am 53 female w/SLE, systemic lupus for almost 10 years. Barrett's esophagus, GERD, gastic paralysis, fibromyalgi, chronic fatigue, Sicca syndrome, list goes on.....This is something new...sudden very severe shooting pain going up right side of neck, carotid area, sometimes into ear, but not always. Avatar f tn I was admitted in the hospital for chest discomfort and an abnormal Ekg. I was placed on zocor, Metoprolol and nitroglycerin patch while hospitalized. The first night I wasnt feeling well woke up at 1 am with the sweats and chest discomfort. I was given a blood thinner and other meds I began to feel better in about a half an hour give or take( to where I could get back to sleep). The following day I had the nuclear and echo gram test.
Avatar m tn m a heart patient myself, but no nitroglycerin for me.
Avatar n tn You should talk to your doctor as you may be a good candidate for a low dose nitroglycerin patch which opens the coronary vessels to increase oxygen supply to the heart. How are you currently managing your COPD? What medications and inhalers are you using? are you on home O2?
Avatar f tn Cardiologist said I had myocardial bridge (left artery), hypertension, and thick wall. I was put on beta blockers and have nitro for when the severe pain comes back. This happened 5 days ago. I'm still having sharp chest pains. I can't walk at a normal pace or stand for long periods of time without my left arm tingling. I called the RN for the cardiologist and she told me to take aspirin every 6 hrs to help with the pain. This isn't helping.
Avatar n tn Have had rectal pain for 2 months, thought it was hemorrhoids, GI and family doctors said it wasn't and didn't know what it was from for sure. Said to see a pain management doctor thinking it is a nerve in my recturm? However, I am confused as to what the pain management dr would do since no definite diagnosis. I tried everything over the counter including lidocaine with no relief. The pain is constant and only relief is when I sleep. Worried!!!
Avatar f tn Myocardial infarction pain is characteristically crushing retrosternal chest pain which may move to arms, shoulder, neck, teeth, jaw, belly area or back. This can be squeezing, lasting for 20 minutes. Rest and nitroglycerin may help relieve the pain to some extent. Other symptoms are anxiety, cough, dizziness, palpitations, shortness of breath etc. your doctor would like to check the cardiac enzymes like troponin and CPK, CPK MB.
Avatar n tn Is it typical to have intermittent chest pain for the last two weeks since having my proximal LAD stented (coated stent)? I have resorted to nitroglycerin several times with mixed results. Today, I had some lightheadedness and shortness of breath with the chest pain, but a couple of hours later, and 3-4 sprays of nitro it is resolved.
Avatar n tn I have been experience rectal pain for about one week now. It started following a bout of diaherra. At first I noticed a hemmorhoid (sorry about the spelling), used creams and wipes and this subsided easily. Now I have rectal pain following each bowel movement that is of course worsened by sitting. The pain had lessened but started again yesterday evening. Haven't been to the doctor yet...any suggestions?
