The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal. My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low.
Stopping Nitroglycerin Patch suddenly may cause serious, possibly life-threatening, WITHDRAWAL symptoms, including chest pain and heart attack. Having a nitrate-free period each day will help prevent tolerance, dependence, and withdrawal problems.

It is recommended to have a free period from a nitrate!. I take sublingual nitro occassionally and nitrate pill 3 times a week for many years.
Myocardial infarction pain is characteristically crushing retrosternal chest pain which may move to arms, shoulder, neck, teeth, jaw, belly area or back. This can be squeezing, lasting for 20 minutes. Rest and nitroglycerin may help relieve the pain to some extent. Other symptoms are anxiety, cough, dizziness, palpitations, shortness of breath etc. your doctor would like to check the cardiac enzymes like troponin and CPK, CPK MB.
The following day I had the nuclear and echo gram test. The 3rd day I had chest discomfort again and was given nitroglycerin and immediately the discomfort was gone (first time I ever had a nitro tablet). This happened twice in my 4 day stay in the hospital.
First told I had a cardiomyopathy because my stress test showed diffuse hypokinesis, stress fraction of 37% and resting fraction of 42%.
I was diagnose with clogged arteries over a year ago. I even had a stent put in because one of my arteries was ecluded. I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs.
I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low.
I have had stable angina (chest pain with exertion) for more than 6 years and take a nitrate (slow acting) prior to an aerobic exercise and that controls symptoms. I also have the fast acting nitro pill available but seldom used. That works for me. Have you tried a nitrate? There is a tolerance issue with a nitrate and it is recommended to interupt occasionally for a day or two.

They gave you the aspirin and nitroglycerin pills as precaution for potential heart attack but very unlikely assuming your are born in 1984 and are healthy without other risk factors.
If symptoms haven't gone away and your pulse rate is still fast, see a doctor again for a scan of your chest if one has not been done already.
The same with his recent heart catherization was chest pressure. In the ER he was given 2 nitroglycerin, 5 minutes apart, the chest pressure went away after the 2nd nitroglycerin.
Does any good specialist in cardiology think that my husband should have the open heart surgery for bypasses considering the risks regarding his age, his diabetes?
I would appreciate very explanatory answers, easy to understand, what to do in my husband's situation.

Now, she is back in the hospital due to chest pain again. The doctors say there is nothing they can do for her and that everything looks good and she will have to live with the pain. The doctors just did an ECG and say all is good. Is this possible? She is on constant Nitroglycerin and Morphine prn. Should she get a second opinion? What other procedures could she have done to take away this pain? She says the pain is getting more frequent and stronger. Thank you for your responses.
It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....It is important to have a "nitrate-free" period of time each day for Nitroglycerin Patch to continue to work well and to decrease the risk of physical dependence.
The first week I had bronchitis. After that cleared, I began having chest pain and shortness of breath.
Everyone dismissed my symptoms because I was a young female. I had a hysterectomy in 2009 but they said I still had estrigen to help prevent heart problems.
After three weeks of testing (lung vq scan, GERD, and anxiety), a heart cath was done. Cardiologist said I had myocardial bridge (left artery), hypertension, and thick wall.
I was being treated for pneumonia with 10 days of levaquin and lodrain 24 D. On the fifth day I started having moderate and continual pain between my sholder blades in the upper back and heartburn (no heartburn for 25 years previously) and extreme fatigue. I thought it was the pneumonia and didn't go to the doctor for five days. My blood test then showed troponin was high, doctor said I may have had a heart attack. Doctor wanted a stress test ... which showed normal.
There is no typical cardiogenic chest pain, which is crushing precordial pain radiating to the jaw, arm and neck, relieved with sublingual nitrates. other possibilities for the muscle spasms can be chest injuries, previous chest surgery, possible culprit, any history of athletics, stress fractures , pulled chest muscles. Fibromyalgia is an important condition of chronic fatigue which causes severe muscle pain, with muscle spasms in chest.
I went to the doc today again as I have been ignoring it since last many years,Stress test ,ECG and 2D ECO was done all are normal doc say its normal and could be some muscular pain,muscular pain wont last for years and show symptoms of angina.I also feel drowsy and lethargic even after a good sleep
How severe is this? I read about nitroglycerin and Propranolol Hydrochloride would you recommend it?
hI. I'm 30 years old. female. Had several episodes of Chest pains for the past 2 years. all began when I clim a hill and was breathless when arriving on top. My ECG was on SR C. I'm havin palpitations. I am on Betaloc 50 mg for the last 2 years. My symptoms are Chest pains which radiates to the left arm, feel dizziness and is always tired after small exertion.I am always on Low BP. My echo measureents are ; LVEDD 43 mm, LVESD 28 mm, LVEF 68%, IVS= 8m, PWT = 7mm, AOV 20 mm, LA = 26 mm.
The adjustment in medicine has not help my blood pressure or chest pain, in fact the chest pain has become worse. I did have a mild stroke 4 years old and a TIA 2 years old. I am on a mountain high of medicine.
* Lipitor 40mg 2 tabs evening *Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg 1 a day

Nitroglycerin can also relieve esophageal spasm, it's not reliable for differential diagnosis of cardiac vs GI origin for chest pain. I've been through this recently myself and don't have any answers either. Nitro (sublingual) sometimes helped and sometimes didn't. Then on Friday I had a stress echo, my second in six months, again definitely negative. I'm also on Prevacid so my cardiologist doesn't think it's GI related but he also doesn't think it's cardiac.
