I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
now, on the 21st may this week my partner had a uti. doc gave her 3 days of nitrofurantoin but it still hasnt gone.
im worried ive infected her with something, but not sure about the timescales.
am i going crazy, i was obssessed that I had gonorhhea until the test came back negative. now im thinking ive caught something else!

I have been taking ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for a month now. but still the is no change. I still have some pains. I was diagnosed with an UTI, in the urine and blood test the was no Chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis in short no STI. But and the doctor, prescribed ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for me and my wife. I have visited the doctor 3times and the last tested I did.
My 5 year daughter has high feever, stinging when weeing, abnominal pain, lower back pain and has started weeing the bed and can not always make it to the toilet on time - she has been prescribed Nitrofurantoin - are these all the normal symptoms of a UTI or could there be something else.
The kidney blood test was fine . So I read online that blood can give me a Uti. I visit the doctor again and she gave me Nitrofurantoin antibiotics and after taking them once, instantly my erections returned and tests returned to normal size -I am taking 100mg twice in a day . The next day I woke up and my erections were gone again and testes shrunk, I took Nitrofurantoin and nothing is happening .
Is either proteus mirabilis or proteus vulgaris resistant to macrobid? I have a UTI that is resistant to macrobid and my doctor mentioned one of the above as the cause--I believe. I had to switch to another antibiotic. Just curious?
It also says that the colony count of the bacteris is 1,00,000 cfu/ml. Hence, doctor prescribed some medicines like Uribid with nitrofurantoin in it, Prothiaden M, Montemac FX for allergy and Hifenac-P for fever and also Cital syrup for UTI. My mother continued the course for one week, now fever and tiredness have decreased, but the burning sensation continues. I have just got to 3 days on nitrofurantoin for uti, dizziness and headache got too bad as side effects. And now I'm losing my hearing too, no wax. It's inside and pain all over my face. Still dizzy, hearing been getting worse all day. Very quick. It's definitely the nitrofurantoin. I wondered as it says it can swell the salivary glands, cause sore throats and constant cold if it's to do with thst or a part of the nerve damage side effect? Did it resolve for you?
I took nitrofurantoin for a UTI infection and finished my course on Tuesday morning. Yesterday (Friday), I noticed what appears to be hives (small raised bumps with no redness, they didn’t itch) on my legs. I counted 13 - primarily on my thighs and shins. They appear to be gone today, but after I took my puppy for a walk this morning, I noticed small red bumps on my feet and they itched. Is this an allergic reaction to the antibiotics?
Hi, So I went to the obgyn today and I have a UTI they prescribed me an antibiotic called :
NITROFURANTOIN 100 mg but in other words its MACROBID.
I have never heard of this drug in my life. I am 28 weeks pregnant and I am very weird when it comes to taking any kind of antibiotic especially now that I am pregnant. I of course looked it up and read horrifying stories about people who took this drug while pregnant and their babies DIED! or they had a miscarriage!
Since you are having pain while urinating and blood, in all probability it is a UTI. This happens in first timers of both those masturbating and those having sex for first time. Drinking plenty of fluids, cranberry juice and apple cider helps. However since you have an exam coming up you can consult a doctor and start antibiotics.

I’m going to see a doctor regardless, but I’d very much like to stop taking the nitrofurantoin if this is gonna get worse, but if I do stop, will the UTI come back and be harder to cure? This is stressing me out a whole lot and I haven’t the slightest clue wtf I’m supposed to do about this.
And for the record, I’ve never had a UTI before or a yeast infection.
has anyone taken nitrofurantoin mono/Mac 100mg for a uti? if so what the outcome and was your baby Ok afterwards?
My ultra sound was normal, as well as the urinalysis (taken when no symptoms of a uti were present). I then started taking Nitrofurantoin Macrocrystal (a daily antibiotic or taken after sex, also called Macrodantin). The UTIs went away during this time. However, my prescription has expired and the UTIs are back. Does anyone have experience with long term antibiotic treatments? How long does typical treatment for chronic UTIs last? I am worried about taking antibiotics for more than a year.

Diagnosed with uti 9/17 treated with nitrofurantoin. After one week symptoms persisted so was given ciprofloxacin. After one week symptoms persisted again so another culture was done and diagnosed with staph infection. Treated with amoxicillin but after one week symptoms still persist. Another culture done and came back contaminated was treated with metronidazole. Now done with prescription and systems still persist. Going to call doctor to see if another analysis/culture.
My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex twice in the course of 24 hours (came in me twice) and I then found out I had a UTI three days later. The nurse prescribed me nitrofurantoin twice daily for a week. On the third day or so I had bouts of brown discharge that resembled menstrual blood but I wasn't supposed to have my period till the following week. After 7 days of this exposure i feel UTI like symptoms and diagnosis done by a urologist and tell me that u have UTI. My urine culture was positive with E.coli. i took antibiotics Doxycycline, nitrofurantoin, fosfomycin, farobact, Mikacin . Symptoms go away after 40 days of antibiotic course. But after one month symtoms repeats.

After repeated treatments, it is common for the bacteria causing UTI to become resistant. Given the delayed response to treatment, most likely you were infected with a strain resistant to nitrofurantoin -- which these days is not the usual drug used for UTIs anyway. You might talk to your doctor about other possible treatments in the future. Second, if your UTIs regularly are triggered by sex, you might take a single dose of antibiotic after intercourse.
